  1. Yeah I had my fair share of injuries but none board related. I did try stop myself on a shallow inside reef by using my face against a rock once. I still have the scars from it. Off topic completely but do any of you suffer with ear issues? My doctor when I was a youngster said he always knew who the surfers were because we have narrower ear canals from all of the time spent in the sea. My ears block up for a joke with wax so I have to syringe them out fairly often.
  2. About a year ago my brother had the same thing, only difference was it was the nose of the board and it hit him in the face. He called me to say he needs to be taken to a doctor, blood was pouring out of the gaping hole in his face. So I rushed off to pick him up and get him to hospital. We arrive and he proceeds to tell the security guard that I did that to him thinking he is a funny bugger... next thing I have the security guards wanting to keep me there until the police arrive!! He had to explain nicely to some very unimpressed security guards that he was joking.
  3. I might have been wondering the same thing...
  4. Flip that is nasty, Im a veggo and I eat much nicer stuff than that!!
  5. Was that at the time they de-listed from the JSE?
  6. Afaik Strava calculates elevation based on map data, so that might be the discrepancy.
  7. Man that sucks. I got mine as part of a bunch of random planes, there were about 40 of them in that batch... Unfortunately it was badly rusted, some of those pits are really deep. I got hold of it with a belt sander to see what was underneath but its not looking good.
  8. Very nice, I love the wine storage in the bottom.
  9. It always starts with restoring Grandad's old plane and then gets a little out of hand from there!! Was the same thing with mr Carrera4s and I, he is just a lot better at restoring these days than I am
  10. Absolutely amazing job! that is probably the best restoration I have seen. Now I really want to drag my no8 out and see if it can be saved, its heavily pitted so probably not.
  11. Very cool design. The best projects are the ones that you had to work around issues or not having the correct tools to get them done. I love being able to see projects I have made each day when leaving/arriving at home.
  12. Yup DSTV are being sneaky about it and introducing random old devices back on to people's profiles which means others cant be added. Its something that happens around major sporting events and is always passed off as "technical problems"
  13. Has anyone found a decent way to watch the TdF this year on a streaming service? The pirate streams are pretty much a waste of time and my Roku isnt playing along with ITV this year.
  14. Flip, Im more shocked about seeing you on a roadie!
  15. You just need the jig and some screws sized to the timber you will be using. There is a chart on the back of the boxes which will tell you which length you need. They might seem expensive but they are good quality screws and worth it in my opinion. Remember with the router that it uses 1/4" shank bits, so just be aware of that when buying your roundovers etc.
  16. I seriously dislike working yellowwood! its too prone to tearout and hardly any better than pine!! Admittedly its always been trees that have been cut down and not commercially bought wood, Im not sure how much effect that would have though.
  17. I thought pocket holes were a gimmick until I bought the small Kreg jig ~R500 odd. Flip its crazy how strong those joints are compared to just screwing two pieces together. I use pocket holes for all drawers/boxes etc now and they work a charm. The Bosch blue trim router is one of my favorite tools, little workhorse that thing and I will reach for it 9 out of 10 times before pulling out the big router. I didnt know I needed one until I had it but its a little champ. Check out the pics Myles put up recently of his bunk style bed, its a great use of space.
  18. Smelly Skater is the exception to most rules.
  19. Knysna and Plett are sharky as heck. I have literally been standing at the heads and watched a great big Jonny come cruising slowly in.
  20. Im going to be 41 in two months time, the creaks really start setting in!! I have learned that we have to get used to things changing, you pick up new sports and hobbies that suit what you can do. Neck and back pain isnt something I would wish on my worst enemy, its something you cant escape when it gets bad. Im definitely slowing down in my older age though, the thought of the backflips off a cliff into the sea from my youth just plain scare me now!
  21. This exactly, the Ematic or Xiaomi are the ones to go for considering its hard to get an Nvidia Shield here. Both players are exactly the same thing but the Ematic has an extra USB port if that matters to you.
  22. There is so much more I would love to say but social media can be your undoing pretty quickly these days.
  23. Ah mr Reeves himself, man I remember seeing him charge some seriously big Waimea shorey back in the days.
  24. I was supposed to follow this up but got busy with work. I was a bodyboarder/doormat/etc from a very young age into my late 20's. I did well in competitions and had a few smallish sponsors. Then my eyesight went, and it went spectacularly! The only type of contacts I could wear cost a few thousand per set and they are super uncomfortable to wear. So yeah I get the longing of watching people surf and I feel the sadness of knowing I cant do it anymore. I tried a couple of times but when you cant see waves well enough to read them and you cant do what you used then its not really worth it. Its a bit like watching old MacGuyver episodes, they were awesome at the time but going back there ruins them.
  25. I thought it might go the way of the cats and motion sensing hosepipe at first... Im not sure which would have be more fun to watch
