  1. Fantastic work! that looks really awesome. Good for keeping your head above water if you arent an experienced bodysurfer.
  2. Great job DJR! looks really nicely done. Its always hard to match existing finishes on repairs.
  3. ^He is right you know I was in the same boat a few months ago, no way I was giving up my steak etc. Then my wife and I started experimenting with some no-meat meals and they were really good, before we realized it we hadnt eaten meat in a good few weeks and werent missing it. I have always loved animals and wont intentionally kill anything - unless its a mosquito, those suckers are fair game!
  4. I use Getflix, been with them for about 3 years now. They do have a local DNS server but it is slower than local connectivity but faster than a VPN.
  5. So I was thinking recently about some of the domesticated animals that are normally eaten like cows, sheep, chickens etc. What if the whole world stopped eating meat tomorrow, what would their future be? You cant exactly let a cow off into the wild, it wouldnt survive. Same goes for sheep and chicken. Sure goats could survive on their own but they arent consumed for meat nearly as much as the others. It no longer becomes viable to have grazing lands for them so do the species need to die out then?
  6. Great idea! will definitely give that a go.
  7. Odinson means well, but even for a person who is vegetarian its a little hard to swallow most times. I have mentioned a few times that its tantamount to bible bashing that drives even Christians mad. Honestly I dont like to come to this thread anymore because of the over the top statements that are posted in here at times but I popped in to mention something and got sucked in. ----- So anyway I had a braai a few days ago and was looking for a vegetarian option for it. I know it wont suit vegans but skewers with red/green/yellow peppers, cherry tomatoes, portabellini mushrooms and halumi were pretty damn amazing. Definitely going to be doing those again.
  8. If they stopped having a team then Im sure they would still stay on as the technical partner for the TdF.
  9. That is pretty scary, someone trying to build a life there and suddenly getting told to leave would not be fun.
  10. What is the general take on sharpening? Learn how to sharpen with stones the hard way or use a sharpening system like the Lansky controlled one? I have failed dismally trying to get a good sharp edge on my diamond stones that I use for sharpening woodworking tools so Im considering going for a sharpening system.
  11. Seitan is fairly close to pure gluten, I have had a few different items with it and while it tastes ok it doesnt agree with me. I definitely agree on the pure whole foods, nothing beats good veggies prepared well. There is very little meat related that I have missed so that is a plus. On a side note, what do you do about braais? my brother has been cooking those horrible Fry's sausages for the last few years at a braai. I call them carboardies because its about how they come out after being on the braai!
  12. Serious question here... What is the general consensus on vegan substitutes for meat, eg vegan chicken etc. My wife uses quite a lot of those things and I really dont like them, they detract from the great flavours of the vegetables in the meal. The other issue I have with them is that most are pretty close to being pure gluten and it doesnt agree with my digestive system. I have read that gluten intolerance isnt real, but trust me its real for me. My wife tried to sneak in some stuff when I didnt know about it and it hit badly. Its not a placebo thing, at least not for me!
  13. It was always on the cards for the 2020 season. DD has mostly rebranded to NTT in the regions other than South Africa. In SA the DD brand is too strong to just change so it will probably stay for a while.
  14. That hammer is gorgeous!
  15. Wow that looks great, love the wood. Its definitely worth it in the end but a whole lot of work to get something like that made.
  16. Very nicely done!! it always amazes me how neat all of your projects are. Im thinking hard about doing the same type of thing in our spare room so I might leave that room for now until I have decided.
  17. That really becomes a game of which batteries/charger do you want to stick with. On one hand there is Bosch blue - good strong tools but limited range of cordless tools in SA Makita - slightly more expensive than Bosch but far bigger range of tools Metabo - pretty expensive and very limited range of tools. Dewalt - starting to make a bit of inroads but stupidly overpriced and very limited range. Ryobi oneplus - cheap as chips and reportedly quite decent. Good for light to medium duty and some fairly decent range of tools available.
  18. The idea behind being a vegetarian or vegan is great. The constant bashing of opinion is not. To illustrate this point, next time a Jehovas witness comes around, invite them in, have a chat and really listen to what they have to say. The above point can be rehashed with almost any religion, or strong beliefs. So while the author was saying its possible to not hate vegans pushing their agenda, Im saying, its possible to be a vegan without being a dick. Heck Im fairly sure in the 5 odd years my brother has been vegan that he hasnt told anyone who didnt ask.
  19. Its an unregulated "exchange" so it gets bullied and messed with all the time by really big players. Those big players are happy for normal people to dabble and make a little money, but if you think you are in the know with trends then you are mistaken, its not a trend based market.
  20. Its a pity the old Ryobi industrial stuff isnt around anymore. Those tools were easily on par with Makita, I have an old belt sander and electric planer from the Ryobi industrial side and they will literally never die! The new one+ stuff looks interesting, I dont expect it to be high quality but at least they have a universal battery system now and some of the basic tools where you might not want to spend the big money could be worth a look.
  21. I have a Bosch green 18v cordless drill and its an absolute champ for what I need it to do. Having said that its probably the last of the green's I would buy, the blue stuff is just so much better in terms of build quality and long term reliability.
  22. @Carrera4s is giving the rest a chance this year and not entering
  23. There wasnt much of a trigger, we have been mostly vegetarian for the last few years now, we were eating meat around once every 10 days or so. My wife and I just decided to extend it to completely cutting out meat. I havent really thought of the outside eating to be honest, I work from home and dont need to travel often for work so it hasnt been an issue yet. But I guess in those situations I would just stick to whatever vegetables are available.
  24. I think its the horror of thinking about all of those terrified animals being burnt to death, probably the worst way to go. Sure there is sometimes terror and extended terror at that for cows and other domesticated animals on route to slaughter, but that doesnt strike the same accord with people as being burnt to death.
