  1. I been through 3 separate S-works bikes, all with the same problem. The problem is not the seat post but the clamp. Take the seat post out, pull the clamp apart, using degreaser or similar clean the cones and and the surfaces that "LOCK". Then re-torque your seat post. Then every 10km or so of your first ride re-torque, and you should be fine. My Mtbs, are bad with that, but using that method I got them all to settle down.
  2. We used the Nirvana group for all our company training. Pretty good and professional guys, they do all sorts.
  3. plaster... but if the chafe enugh they should get all kallis...
  4. Check out the UCI website... I think I remember it as... All offroad, MTB style events XC - less than 2 hours for the winners, normally lap style racing round 35-40 km, generally highly technical. Half Marathon - 45 km Marathon - 60 -90 km Ultra, UCI marathon - 3 to 4 hrs for top elite, 90 + km Check me, but I think it gives a good picture..
  5. I check mine every 2 weeks. I only need to add a little air every 2 months or so, or I am changing it for rougher or smoother tracks. Thanks Ken
  6. The problem with the Fortuner is the Drivers. Its technically over powered for its class of vehicle, thats why it goes like hell, and many people who should have bought 3 or 5 series BMW or Audi A4 or A6 bought a Fortuner. They then drive them like sport sedans and wonder why they fall over. Try drive a Defender, your range rover vogue, land cruiser, Prado, Pajero, like the idoits who drive SUVS like sedans,I bet they fall over too. The reason why the X3,X5, Q7, Q5,X6 and the Subarus are all developed, is for those people. Yes, offroad ability trades off every possible, improvement for on raod performance, its just the nature of the design challenge. I have had a Fortuner for bout 3 years now, I also drive a Hilux with the same motor. The Hilux is a great on road cruiser, definitely easier on the tar and the cross wind etc, it does not suit the family side either, however, off road, I spend most days drifting travelling on dirt. Fortuner sits firm. I use it for the long dirt hauls. I have a contact that work with Toyota that did all the suspension checks, i.t.o design and overhaul. Apparently, all the geometry is consistent with all the vehicles in it class. Just my 2c.
  7. I ride two types of tyre, the Specialized 2bliss LK, works really well, Good for hard pack, great in the wet and terrible on mud. It does not clean well, so in the van gaalens mud/clay it was not the right tyre. But if the weather is wet, i.e. raining, the moisture allows the tyre to clean an the dual compound works really well. In summary, its my dry bias tyre. My wet bias tyre is the Karma. It cleans well, rolls well, and in the 1.9 format ust, a great cutter. Its works in all conditions, just the narrow tyre on the loose rock needs a little more attention. I rode crossmarks, small block 8 monorails, Mimo, nobbly nics, conti race kings. I just settled on the above as value for money.
  8. I have ridden both... My HT had a 80 mm Fox RL. My previous soft tail had a reba. They are both great. The Fox is a better performer - service every 6 months The Reba, a better laster - leaked a little oil at first but once settled was fine. My current Soft tail has the Fox, RLC 100. No issues with that fork, only that it arrived dry, with no seals. Once replaced, at no cost to me. It is great.
  9. Nothing too serious for me. Broke my chain in a race... Broke a pedal, actually it just came to pieces - very annoying to finish on the shaft. Cracked a frame, not even in a fall. My favourite dismount in a race was the failure of a shock crown round the top a of the front fork tube...gotta love the old school SIDs..
  10. I will bring a couple of guys on Dirt bikes and quads to help clear paths and get rid of some of the thorns... Put them in their tyres instead of ours..
  11. My 2008 Canaan came without a gusset, I broke 2 and the third time it was replaced with a Gusset frame. That was in October 2008. That was a 2009 frame. The 2010 frame seems to have a down tube of thicker material and also a double weld.
  12. Check that your FD has not slipped down... even 3 mm is a lot.. I broke a shifter and a cable, before I realised what had happened.
  13. I have used all the Kenda tyres mentioned above. The Karma is great as all terrain type tyre. It performs well on hard pack, rolls easy and still cleans very well in the wet. However, it is a little soft and wears really quickly. The small block 8 is great, as long as its dry, and the surface has not mention of damp or clay, it clogs in mud, and is terrible on loose stuff. Nevagall, too heavy for XC. Maxxis cross mark, sucks in wet, tyre compound is too hard. Great in dry super on the rocks. My latest attempt is the specialized tyre range, low knob claw, great tyre so far @ bout 700 km.
  14. The higher pressure gives better lock out... I rode my RP23 at 150 to 165( 1mm of sag ), I weigh 68 kg, fully kitted. To stop the jack hammer( bounce when getting to the top of a bump with the shock compressed) effect I set my rebound really slow, 2 or 3 clicks from minimum rebound. The pro-pedal would then be very tight, and effectively lock out. If you set up with more sag the significant compression inside the shock gives the wallow effect.. as the pro-pedal is not as effective as it should be. Yes its more comfortable...
  15. bump... any takers..
  16. I imagine so, any form of modification will lead to a void of warranty, however, a mod like that if done by your LBS should not have any issues.. NExt qustion is how long is left on your warranty, ...
  17. Fingerless if it really hot...( somewhere for the sweat to drain out) or really dirty...( hate having mud on the gloves)
  18. Any body looking for a 4 - 5 hr p day partner to ride the Sabie X. My current partner has just been transferred to the UK... Any takers... Thanks

    2 x 9 setup

I rode a 27/42 setup for a long time( 2 months, borrowed bike) on the RS7, no issues, 11-32 cassette in the flatter spots and a 11-34 where there a few more hills, it worked great... Was the ISIS, setup.
  20. thanks kenny dude.. and nice of you to carry ur girls bike. It already took 4 hrs to finish... I didn't need to wait around for another hour
  21. I rode my 3rd monster...for the first time I rode the 45 km with the girl friend... She is a fair weather rider and took some serious pain, I carried her bike for her on the 2 steep sections. I normally ride the larger distances with the top 50 or so, so I am not accustomed to the pain and suffering I saw with some of the guys mid pack... Big up to all you guys who finished, hopefully you get more time to train harder for next time...
  22. Check your pedals, I had a pair that could make the frame vibrate, they were so rough at one stage... Swopped my pedals out the problem was gone, it also only happened when I stood, and put the power down..
  23. ZTR olympics and Kendas, are my easiest fit... DT 455, eish... they are my toughest fit and I can't get em to seal properly, on all brands, maxxis, conti, specialized. Specialized tyres are a mission to get to seal on the ZTR
  24. My GF 's specialized Epic came stock with an XT Cassete and X.0 rd.
