    Who remembers?

As far as children are concerned, you really only have to "look after them" for the first 25 to 30 years . . . . Enjoy! :-)

    Who remembers?

    Jeez! :-(
  3. The Rugby World Cup is over - and we won! How cool is that!? We were watching the matches in a Bar just down the road from where we're renting our flat here in Boltaña. The Bar opens at 10am "Spanish Time" which means anywhere between 10:15 and 10:25ish depending on "how late the guy worked the night before". Consequently we missed a couple of minutes of some of the games, but never mind - we were just very grateful that we could see them at all because they weren't on normal TV here and anyway we did get to see one full match - including the SA national anthem :-) When SA played Japan we arrived at the Bar with friends, bought ourselves drinks, sat down to watch . . . and the power went off! FOR AN HOUR!!! We joked that you couldn't get a more authentic feeling of being back in SA than by watching Rugby in a Pub and the power goes off. The power came back on with 10 minutes to go, so we saw the end of the game. Meanwhile we hadn't even been able to check the score on-line because cell phone coverage went down with the power. That's the first power cut we've seen in all the time we've lived here. How weird is that? Maybe I asked for it when I replied to a South African friend on Facebook who asked me if the bar we were going to had a generator and I replied "hey, we're a long way from ESKOM over here buddy!" Now we're enjoying the post competition humour on-line . . . . and hoping that the good feeling we have now lasts for a little while . . . . Well done to everyone. Tony & Andrea
  4. A couple of weeks ago I finally finished translating our Department of Commerce "Viability Study" into English. At the same time, I went through each item step-by-step to double check that we fully understood everything that had been written or calculated - and that everything actually said what we thought it said. I'm happy to say that everything is good. The Viability Study is accurate and correct - it does show that the business will work and in fact, because we understand more about how things actually work here in Spain now than we originally did, we will be a bit better off than we (or rather they) thought we would be. I've sent the Viability Study to a fellow Hubber who is going to have a look at it through Professional eyes and let us know what he thinks of it . . . Onwards & Upwards! Tony.
  5. We watched "Better Call Saul" Season 3 - 10 episodes - in a week. Although it started a bit slow it soon picked up and we enjoyed it. Was interesting to see "Hector Salamanca" as he was before he had a stroke. In BB you only see him wheelchair-bound after the stroke. Now we know what he was like beforehand - an evil SOB. We also now know where the Breaking Bad Character "Saul Goodman" got his new name from. (It's all good man!) We've now moved on to Sneaky Pete Season 1, which also stars Bryan Cranston from BB.....
  6. Nice pics man! Thanks.
  7. Riding down from Guaso village church on Zona Zero Route ZZ-09. Some days are quicker than others, but it's always fun!
  8. A whole engine? Damn.
  9. I went and stood up on the roof of the ERM when the first Air France A380 came in. It was a chilly day if I recall correctly . . .
  10. We had a few days of rain at the end of last week and over the weekend - first proper rain in months. Once the sun came back out we could see that while it was raining down where we live, it had snowed up in the Alto-Pyrenees. No snow on the Pena Montenesa yet, but will be some soon I'm sure. . . . . In the meantime, we're enjoying the sunshine . . . . :-)
  11. From Facebook . . . . SPOTTED in Singapore (SIN), where it was painted in the airline's livery: FlySAA's first Airbus #A350-900, ex B-304Z Hainan Airlines. SAA's A350s will have 246 Economy seats, and the first 6 rows of Economy will feature extra legroom. SAA hasn’t yet clarified how many Business Class seats there will be. SAA will lease two A350-900s from Hainan Airlines and two from Air Mauritius. Photo: twitter.com/HaanShangaan
  12. i'll put this on the list to try next . . .
  13. Bit behind the times, as usual, but we've just finished watching the first two seasons of Hannibal. Enjoyed it although it's pretty gruesome in places. Now we're half way through Better Call Saul Season 3. Started slow but picking up now, and nice to see how all the Breaking Bad characters originally met.....
  14. Last weekend I had the pleasure of MTB Guiding Jason & Lilly from Seattle in Washington State - they were here on their honeymoon. It was a really nice day out - we rode in "The Badlands", did some climbing, rode some very nice descents and did some site seeing - a bit of everything. They even got to see our Project up in Guaso. Jason is a builder - so he was interested to see how it had originally been built. From here they headed down to ride in the Sierra Nevada mountains before heading back to the states.
  15. Nice
  16. Yeah I can be rough. My stepson gets hayfever nose bleeds too.
  17. I didn't get the impression anyone was suggesting roaming the streets looking for people you don't like the look of . . .
  18. Matla power station - built in the 1980's. I did my apprenticeship there . . . .
  19. What the hell? The station boilers are "designed wrong"? the Mills are "designed wrong"? The safety circuits on the conveyors "don't work"? The stacker-reclaimers "don't work"? Is this the first power station ever built in South Africa? NO it isn't!
  20. An old friend of mine was at an Experimental Aircraft get-together in SA last weekend. He says there was lots of cool stuff - and mostly powered by VW engines!
  21. It does seem unfair that it's ok for you to be the victim of violent crime, but not for you to use violence to stop violent crime from happening to you. Add to that the fact that you pay the wages of the police force via tax, but when you need them to do their jobs they don't even answer the phone - let alone turn up, but should you take the law into your own hands, that same police force will come down on you like a ton of bricks. I understand the idea of us all not dropping to "wild animal" status, so what is the answer? Is it a basic right for anyone to be able to walk (or ride) down the road without being molested by criminals or is that an unrealistic luxury in SA in this day and age?
  22. Proper Flu will knock you down, stamp all over your body and leave you to die. Hayfever makes you sneeze a bit..... :-)
  23. You'd think that the name of the company and who owned it would be easy enough to find out...
  24. Looks like someone was bike-jacked on the Spruit this morning by 2 guys with knives. Apparently one of the thieves was seen riding the stolen bike shortly afterwards by two other riders. They followed him and he dumped the bike and ran. BIke and rider should be reunited later today because the stolen bike had contact info on it.
  25. Had a visitor from Switzerland last week. Martin is doing a tour of Spain & Portugal in a VW Camper van. He parked behind our flat and we got talking. Gave him some advice on where to ride and where to camp, and the next day we ended up riding together. Now I have another new friend . . . that's how we roll! (as "Wendys" teenage son used to say!) The weather was perfect and the views were beautiful, as always.
