  1. I saw the video of the worlds XC on freecaster. It seems like Absalon could not keep up with Nino; He spinned very fast on the last flat section. Thats unlike Mr Absalon. Just made me think about his bike setup?
  2. Geoff Kabush and Julian Absalon only had 1 front chainring on their bikes at the world XC race in Australia yesterday. Must be tough going up the steep hills. They must be serious "weight weenies". Other chaps used 2 rings in the front. Are there to many gears on the mnt bikes?
  3. I would like to record the worlds XC streaming through internet this weekend. Any website where one can download a free recorder program that actualy works?
  4. It takes me 6min to work by bicycle and 10min by car. Dont even build up a sweat commuting to work on my bike. I try to ride a few times a week. My kids think I am mad because there are cars on this planet for this purpose.
  5. I dont know if other hubbers have mentioned this you tube movie? Is orth checking out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b36Yi-Pb1wM&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com%2Fhome.php&feature=player_embedded#t=338
  6. How many people on the hub cycle to work and back daily? How far do you ride daily? How long does it take you? What do you when it rain? Do you shower at work? What are the views of the other people at work - you are mad?
  7. I dont know how stable it would feels on a "heavy downhill"
  8. http://www.velonews.com/files/images/TB_Leadvillebike01.JPGTravis Brown?s Top Fuel is built like no other, for the dirt roads in Leadville. Travis Brown?s Trek Top Fuel Possibly not since the days of John Tomac in the early 1990?s have we been treated to the sight of a mountain bike with drop bars. But knowing the gravel roads, having a history in cyclocross, and never one to shy from a potential technical advantage, Brown pulled it off and mounted an aluminum, Bontrager Race Lite road bar to his Top Fuel. It?s paired with a 90mm Race X-Lite aluminum stem, mounted with +7 degrees of rise. The net result is a comfortably upright stance with a short front center. The road bar offers multiple hand positions for climbing, fast cruising, and stable descending in the drops. < marginheight="0" marginwidth="0" ="http://adj43.thru.com/servlet/ajrotator/589557/0/vh?z=inside&ch=589540&dim=317215" scrolling="no" width="300" border="0" height="100">>The road bar is not the only skinny-tire fitment on Brown?s Trek. He?s got a 180mm Dura Ace 7800 triple road crank and front derailleur mounted on the Top Fuel. The bike is typically spec?ed with a 2-chainring crankset, and there?s just enough clearance for the Dura Ace triple. Brown fitted 30- and 39-tooth chainrings, plus a custom carbon fiber outer chain guard from his cyclocross parts stash. In order to run the Dura Ace 7800 front derailleur, which relies on bottom-pull cable routing, Brown used a Trek/Bontrager cable clamp adapter to convert the mech for the top-pull configuration of the Top Fuel. Of course, with a road bar comes the need for road shifter/brake levers, and SRAM picks up the story with Red road parts, mated to a XX rear derailleur and 11-36 cogset. The road levers preclude hydraulic disc brakes, so Brown bolted on a pair of Avid BB7 Road cable-actuated mechanical disc calipers to bite into XX rotors. What little remains of his parts pick is relatively standard: a 2010 RockShox Reba fork at 120mm travel; Bontrager XXX-Lite carbon wheels (with a Bontrager XR-1 Team Issue rear tire and Jones XR front); a FOX RP23 rear shock; Crank Brothers pedals; and a Bontrager saddle. |
  9. These problems have been sorted out - categories are correct now. Thx
  10. SSTiming seems to have problems putting riders in the correct categories. Were a few problems distinguishing between Youth (15-16yrs) and Juniors (17-18yrs). This will result in wrong positions at the end of race and in the points classification overall. Hope this did not happen in previous races as well. Perhaps somebody should check it out.
  11. Candice Neethling is one of the best junior girls we have had in SA for a long time. Is definitely a medal prospect in the future - 2016 Olympics? She can climb!!
  12. Ben-Melt Swanepoel - nr 2 in the ultra marathon
  13. Ruan du Toit - finished 3rd in 40km
  14. Jac-Johan Steyn; Candice Neethling and Richardt Ferreira - 40km race
  15. Arno du Toit - 2nd finisher in the 40km race Konaman2009-08-08 14:49:41
  16. James Reid leading the "testosterone boys race" - 40km
  17. Start of the big boys race
  18. Mountainbiking - The next Olympics is in 2012 as far as I know. We need to start now to get a team/squad together of the most promising juniors and u23's. These riders should receive a reasonable income from "whoever"to only have to focus on cycling and not where the bread on their table is coming from tomorrow. If we don't do this, we can kiss results goodbye in 2012. (except for Burry) - but why should we pin our hopes on 1 person only! Look at the Swiss this past weekend in Canada at the XC worldcup - 4 out of the first 5 finishers. Why cant we do it?

  20. Its such a big race. The organisers should have these files for free on their website! Will add value to their race. Perhaps Garmin SA should go and map it for them, if they dont know how to.
  21. Where can one get the Garmin 705 files for the 40km and 75km routes at Harrismith's MTB nationals on the 8th Aug? Does anybody have it?
  22. You really want this new bike or item or whatever. When your partner hear about it, the eyes start to roll. You get the message instantly! How do you deal with this phenomenon? Just ignore her/him and go ahead purchasing what you want?
  23. I am urgently looking for a reasonably light 17" disc compatible mtb frame for a very keen development rider, that is going to the SA halfmarathon champs in Harrismith in about 2 weeks. Piet Xhagwe's current frame is a large which is much to big for a 14yr old boy. He is a sub-junior rider and was recently chosen for the Border team, to go the SA champs on the 8th of August. Is there anybody out there that can help us with a free frame in a reasonably good condition? We will build over the bike as soon as we get the frame. I am from Queenstown in the Eastern Cape. Tel 0834007193 or infoAt queenstowndot-co-dot-za (done like this to prevent spam) Here is Piet Xhagwe at a race in Queenstown recently, where he was the first sub-junior to finish in the 40km. He is in the middle of the picture. Konaman2009-07-26 15:29:27
