  1. Bumping this up to get a lower chance of winning my bike, but improving my trails! It's amazing the amount of hours that I've spent looking up Santa Cruz's line-up and reading many many reviews! I'm pretty much a SC expert now
  2. I'd say Rush Sports and Santa Cruz are the most generous donors
  3. Deon 'liked' my earlier post, so I take that to mean that he's agreeing with my statement and I can have a Tallboy with XX1.
  4. Not if you read the rules: The prize is as follows: One Santa Cruz bicycle of your choice (any model, colour or construction without Enve rims) with a standard build kit. Assembly and construction are included. That reads - anything as long as it's not got Enve wheels. Any construction means it can be the C or CC frame and standard build kit should just be the standard drivetrain options that are listed on the SantaCruz site, eg: XT, GX, XO1 and XX1. I'm in two minds about this competition - in some ways I don't want to tell anyone about it to improve my chances of winning, and in others the more people who enter, the better my home trails become. What a dilemma...
  5. /browsing the SC site, picking out my new whip...
  6. It's for this reason that Fox no longer calls it 'lockout' but rather 'firm'. There is no complete solid lock. If there was you would risk damage to the damper. It is designed to still move under force.
  7. I've been looking at this extensively with an eye to go from Stellies to Plett in five days and then back to Stellies in two solid days via an alternative route that sort of skirts the N2 along dirt roads until Swellendam where it heads inland via Bonnievale, Worcester, Paarl. I've mapped everything out already: Stage 1 - Stellies to Riviersonderend - 146km & 1689m climbing Stage 2 - Riviersonderend to Riversdale - 166km & 1996m climbing Stage 3 - Riversdale to Calitzdorp - 115km & 1930m climbing Stage 4 - Calitzdorp to Wilderness - 185km & 2297m climbing Stage 5 - Wilderness to Plett - 142km & 2434m climbing Stage 6 - Plett to Stellies - 570km & 6338m climbing (over two days) Should be a lekka trip! No backup, and will carry tents and gear to sleep either in campsites (on the way to Plett) or out in the middle of nowhere (on the way back).
  8. I have a major complaint about the race. Up until about 68km it was great - loved it! But they should really stop your timing at the top of the Bone Crusher hill and then have a neutral zone until the finish. It's just not fair to have free flowing beer at the top while the clock is still ticking... I ended up waiting for my mates to catch up while drinking a handful of bottles at the top of the hill. This completely ruined my time! It did make the downhill to the finish extra enjoyable though.
  9. And it's not me Congrats Dale
  10. Tim is busy riding the Cross Cape route, so it's unlikely that he'll announce the winner until he's finished that. The training portion of the prize is due to start on the 1st June though, so there's not a great deal of time left to decide on a winner!
  11. But a team with regular hearing and regular ears might have more of a chat...
  12. That's the problem with saying never!
  13. Where's all the battle stories? I'm keen to here why Velouria called it the "never ever again edition"!
  14. Happy to read this! I've been checking your FB page obsessively to see an announcement - glad that it hasn't happened yet. There's still a chance!!
  15. I bought tickets without consulting my wife, and apparently I already knew about plans that we had on the same day... So I'm selling my tickets. I went for the ticket plus the chairs (essential in my opinion) and they cost me R190. I'll be happy to get R150 for them. Send me a PM if you're keen. Really gutted that there's only one showing in CT. I really wanted to go EDIT - the tickets are from Webtickets, so I can just email them - nice and simple
  16. This sounds like fun!
  17. It's evil. During the race I was thinking to myself, "ok, I've done solo now, back to a team next year" but by Tuesday morning I was already plotting what to do differently for solo next year!
  18. I didn't mind the new route too much - there was plenty of space to go past (or be passed). The grassy lumpy crap at the top was horrible, especially that one lap in the middle of the night that I rode with my fork locked out without realizing... The downhill part was a good kind of sketchy fun - worked out my lines in the first few laps so that I could go down there without touching the brakes at all. That led to some 'interesting' moments. Adrenalin is good for staying awake right? In the end I managed 21 laps and got my gold medal. I definitely could have benefited from not doing an Everest challenge last weekend... Great going Velouria - you're a machine!
  19. I did an everest last Saturday - wonder if I can do another one tomorrow...
  20. But why??? That single track next to the river is the only motivation to go up the hill in the first place...
  21. Hey, that's me in the back of that picture! I'm famous! Looking forward to my first solo this year, although it's going to be tough after my Everest this last weekend... My poor body.
  22. Number 6 is where I'm coming unstuck...
