    Argus 2014

Most of the accidents I saw were due to: 1) MTB's hoggin the middle of the road and faster groups splitting to go around them. Someone always had to hit the brakes due to not seeing the slow moving brick on the MTB 2) stoopppid ijuts weaving between riders at 60km/hr from Smits to Scarborough. Eventually the inevitable happened
  2. yes there will be Spec 650B bikes in 2015
  3. LOL seems everyone is so damn uptight they forgot it was wooden spoon Friday.......eish
  4. The DA promised to improve Cape Town when the ANC faltered and failed to deliver. I can't believe that 20 years after democracy we still have 80's style thugs dressed as cops in Cape Town. That right there in that video is the type of thing the DA promised to fix. Doesn't seem that any party is capable of fixing this country
  5. we "guffawed" loudly afterward about the amount of airtime this incident is getting. Can't wait for Shaps article in RIDE
  6. thats the DA legacy right there. cheers Zille. kiss my vote goodbye
  7. Just remember that the formula assumes that the VI of the oils is the same or similar and that both oils are of mineral composition. It will get you close enough for the purpose of blending your own oil. So when mixing two oils, try to get both oils from the same manufacturer with a very similar VI: within 10% is good enough.
  8. and going nowhere slowly?
  9. Deep sections will be interesting.... I'd opt for standard wheels but thats just me
  10. you should work in town and walk to expo
  11. My Citi Bus drivers are son of bitches! I havehad several encounters with them where at pedestran crossings they simply run straight through whether you are already on the crossing or not. They're just taxi drivers with a bigger weapon to initmidate and cause harm. I witnessed a pedestrain get struck by a My Citi bus that proceeded to run over the fellow. He didn't make it. This Citi clearly does not work for me.
  12. mind you In my youth ai wanted to clobber that twit with the cow bell on Suikerbossie. Instead I found it easier to dig deep within my suitcase of courage and ride faster to get away from that infernally annoying sound as soon as possible. Negative thought, turned into positive action through consious choice....
  13. So GluvsMTb, the point of this thread is the brand impact this event is going to have. MC2 is literally stuffed for a while and they have to regain credibility. Bellville had to go into damage control Alfa Coachworks had to go into damamge control PPA had to go into damage control Cycletour has gone into damage control Every cyclist on the road is now riding with one eye over their shoulder. I'm brainstorming ideas on how MC2 can exercise damage control of their own as part of "community service"? the effects of this incident are far reaching e.g. a non cycling colleague comes up to me in the office today and squirts me with water... I look at her with raised eyebrow and ask if she is hoping for a wet t-shirt chippendal show She says" Nah I was just wanting to see if all cyclists are aggressive when you add water.." WTF???!!
  14. you mean like this one? http://mc2cycling.co.za/mc%c2%b2-official-press-release/#more-1963
  15. and OP has a different agenda that you have touched on... think brand damage
  16. Once again you're reaching for excuses. Stick to the facts. I recognize there is cause and effect but that really has to be measured by an independent party. Visibility on that stretch of road is pretty good. AS the motorist describes he was driving behind this group for quite some time and would have had a good view of the road ahead as he was looking for an opportunity to pass while observing the 1.5m rule (glad that campaign has had the effect intended, .....thanks PPA). These are facts as stated in his statement. how cyclists would or should or could behave is really reaching for desperation because our behaviour is not exactly a best practice guide for road use in Cape Town now is it...
  17. A pal of mine once rode the length of Bergvliet road with his head down and straight into the back of a parked city golf. He too was racing league at the time and this incident occured a few weeks before Argus. Argus time makes people do stoopit things... just saying. The facts are: Eyewitness watched the lead rider looking over his right shoulder for an extended period of time. The rider then looked forward only to find the van in his path. He swerved to avoid the van, stopped his bicycle and proceded to have a verbal altercation. Then the fight started. The other club members on that ride may provide other evidence that will add to and perhaps alter the direction the facts are pointing, but we will have to wait for the trial too start to hear those. Want to help their cause, then its best to find similar facts rather than conjure up wonderful scenario's. Yes people can be provoked into a blind rage. it really depends on what you have been exposed to prior to the "event" and how you dealt with it. Being repeatedly exposed to close encounters with poor drivers and taxi's or GA buses (*^&%ers) could drive one to the tipping point. GA bus drivers will look you in the eye and turn their bus toward you. That level of psychopath behaviour leads to a lot of traumatic stress. I am sure there are cyclists out there who are constantly provoked by bad drivers and never deal with the experience through blogging about it or other means. Anger builds, one day you snap. Simple really. it would appear to me these two MC2 riders were suffering post traumatic stress of too many close encounters with shitty drivers and this incident was the straw that broke the camels back. Still doesn't justify a mob assault but PTS is a mitigating factor as it can be treated. If won't change the charges or the outcome of whether guilty or not but it could affect the sentence. This event should also be a wake up call for Mr Carlisle our transport MEC. Cape Towns roads are littered with **** drivers who have no clue what the rules of the road are. I have only once seen a traffic officer pull a driver over for a moving violation and that was yesterday on the N2 outside Somerset West. Woman was driving 50 on the N2... Minimum speed limit on a National road is 60km/hr. She got pulled over and fined. Every morning in traffic I see nearly every driver with a cell phone in their hand texting or blogging while driving at 80-100km/hr. But lets not twist this incident into something its not. Its not about those drivers, its about two cyclists who lost control of their emotions and drew others into a mob assault against a person the evidence suggests was an innocent bystander. Unfortunately that right there is a crime. It should also be a wake up call for PPA and clubs. Somehow they need to get control of the riders and get people to follow simple rules of the road. The next campaign should be Red Green Cyclist understand the Bloody DIFFERENCE!!!
  18. 1987 was the last one where it really pelted down. 1993 it rained before the start and 2006 also
  19. Awesome if true. Do you have a reliable source?
  20. Thanks, that the answer I was looking for. But instead Hub er.........behaviour.......makes it more than it is.
  21. Thats a petty comment. I'm sure the defense lawyer will use this tactic to dismiss the video evidence but there is enough eyewitness evidence to secure a conviction. Also you will notice the driver was stopped while filming. The argument can be spun many ways which does not detract from the facts at hand.
