  1. 3cSt at 100 is on the low side but shoudl still provide sufficient cavitation protection. I am assuming the Putoline has an antifoamant in the additive package? One last aspect to consider is the water shedding ability of the oil. A lower viscosity at 100 will shed any water easier. this but this can also give rise to cavitation snce the water component will boil off at 100C depending on whether the fork is extended (pulling low pressre on the oil and boiling point of water reduces. Designof the shims stck is also a factorso best bet is to try the 2.5 out; down a few Dh runs with it and strip and inpect the shim stack. When developing fork oil years ago I picked up cavitaiton in MX forks with viscosities below 3.5cSt at 100. theffect was largely dependant on the compression damping circuit. Some forks showed problems others not over a 100 hr test
  2. afrox or medical suppliers if you want it more pure
  3. Whats tands in their constitution has little relevance to their actual and planned activities. All that the statements in the constitution allows for is for them to move into that space if they so chose. it has little relevance to activities today.
  4. compression damping will only affect how fast maximum sag is achieved. Compression damping can affect the upper end of your spring rate curve but you're not interestd in that while you stnding still unless you like to bounce your frint wheel and fork in the parking lot to show everyone how "plush" your set up is  2cSt higher means nothing if you don;t know the VI of the oil. The fork oil is only at 40C at the start of the ride. the momoent its starts workign the tmeperature in the oil will start to climb uless you have a heat exchanger in there somewhere What is the viscosities of the Yamalube at 40 and 100? what is its VI...?
  5. depending on the prefered settings, the oil may also cavitate which will wreck the shim stack. this oil will only loose viscoity as it warms up. What is its VI?
  6. valid point but one battle at a time please and then means, in this case, CSA is the evil. PPA could do a lot of things better but being forced by a convoluted interpretation of a law imposed on professional cycling in a country far far away has **** all do to with my social riding. From that perspective, appreciate PPA's autonomy. Social riders are under no obligation to any pro or amateur rider in SA. CSA looks after you and that is it. If they cannot look after you then ask them why. Don't ask the social riders to come and bail you out. There is room for two different bodies looking after different aspect of riding bicycles. Not everyone dreams of winning the tour de france their whole life.
  7. This is why I wont ride alone in the dark or leave too early in the morning.
  8. Do you really want to know. It may frighten you to understand just how incompetent CSA really is
  9. I don't buy into your communist ideals
  10. Actually PPA was NOT a WILLING participant. They participated because it was expected to do so. Once it became clear that PPA was just going to be used as a cash cow and that the PPA brand would be devalued, the fight started
  11. 23 years of Mountain biking and I'm still not sure...hmmm, better make up my mind soon
  12. 95% of motorists are blind to anythning other than their cell phone, the vanity mirror or the bikini clad hottie on the sidewalk. If you're on a bicycle, you're invisible
  13. I guess I have to selll up and move onto something lse like maybe white watr kayaking. At 172cm theres no genre for me. ****heads
  14. I have levelled my criticisms at PPA but they are picking up the balls more often than not over the last few years. That tells me they're listening which is a good thing
  15. drama? all that was said was via social media. How many face to face engagements? from what i can tell, there's still a strong undercurrent and that will surface unless differences are sorted out chop chop... Hassle factors occur in all parks. Look at some of the US parks. They don't even allow dogs or bikes in some of their parks. In Tokai, dog walkers, equestrians are all lower hassle factor because they're lower in number and tend to send through a lower volume of complaints and ask less of SANParks. They also seem to be more united in their cause. Some activities are not allowed in many of SA's park because of the hassle; managing the activity, the people, resources, maintenance, marketing material, blah blah blah just isn't worth it. Having the land just sit there is much easier. Saying "its their job" is pretty sort sighted because a job is only there if there is a purpose for it. The fact that they apponting people to handle mountan bikers is clearly indicative of the hassle having gone up. So lets see where the committee goes and who sticks it out for a year and what is achieved. I've stocked up on popcorn. needs some chips for the re/decombobulator
  16. Agreed Flowta, BUT SANParks have a lot of people phoning them out of frustration asking the same questions. Somewhere within SANParks the communications with the mtb community is not being co-ordinated. So Yes I can get the latest plans from "Someone" but I won't get information on when those plans are being executed unless I talk to the right people. Often those "right" people don't want to divulge information because surprise surprise, managing mtb'er requests is only 5% of their day jobs. Believe it or not, we are low on the pecking order. Yes we bring in money but the more we add to their "hassle factor" the less value that money really has. The other thing is timing. Often people phone in and get some information from "Someone". That information is then quickly disseminated amoungst the mtb community . Meanwhile back at the ranch, the people in SANParks who are designated to be interacting with the MTB community don't even know the information has been made available yet. Surely that's happened in your workplace....? People don't know what they don't know and therefore cannot share what you want. It seems a lot of folk have inside sources at SANParks and False Bay Coastal Reserve to allow them to have information that has not even been shared within SANParks. Then we hold our VOLUNTEERS responsible.. I didn't realise that we spend our days trying to stitch up our friends and set them up for failure. I'm sitting on information and others have other relevant information. However, for the process to work, sometimes you need to sit on what you know or make the information available to the person who is representing you. Yet we choose to moer our friends on open forums. Last nights AGM was a muted affair. Where was the mudslinging? Can't people have a tough conversation anylonger without a keyboard? <working on my decombobulator to miniaturise myself to the size of a fly on the wall at the first committee meeting...>
  17. some people really have to learn to listen properly. Yes he made those comments and suggestions on how to get what we want but what he was really saying is that if SANParks does not deliver on their promises then the riders will do what they want. His discussion with SANParks was essentially a soft encouragement to come to the party before things get out of control and the only viable route forward is the total ban on mountain biking in Tokai till SANParks decides otherwise. reading between the lines, Meurant said that both sides need to learn to work together effectively (SANPArks and TokaiMTB). That means SANParks needs to up their communication on their plans and Tokai MTB needs to get control of the riders and start abiding by what has been promised to the landlord in terms of behaviours e.g. stop building illegal trails and riding on trails not intended for MTB. Working with local politicians is a good way to go but let's face it, commercial properties n the Tokai, Westlake area contribute more to the micro economy than trails in Tokai does over a year. Understand the pecking order and we'll realise that we're a bunch of elitists nagging for a playground. In an adult world, thats a very low priority so working WITH SANParks is the only win win. but we must all walk this road to reach our Damascus moment
  18. So if you don't get anything from the PPA why do you want them under the control of CSA? Good businesses don't want companies that they are not interested in. oh sorry I get it now, you're having a moan because you have nothing better to moan about. You should play bowles instead
  19. I'd like to know how this was tested at SABS since they don't have any testing facilities.... I chair SABS committees, I have a fairly good idea of what they're capable of.
  20. Maybe the air is too thin up in Jozi but i figured that hosting an event to raise money for charity whilst taking a management fee was how good NPO grow their worth and influence.. Maybe I missed Economics 101 and Entrepreneurship 1
  21. The problem they have with having the money is not knowing how to spend it responsibly. PPA has been stung by many "Fly by nights" and programs that have not worked. Tehy do pump money into development cycling but I feel that program needs to be more formal, with a proper structure and governance. Problem is then they need a revenue stream. So how do they spend their savings whilst still being an NPO? They can fund a kick off program but from then on corporate or benefactor sponsorships and donations becomes necessary to sustain the program. I sat on the EXCO when the decision to put a pot of money in a unit trust was made. That decision was made to keep the value of the cash PPA had ahead of inflation so t hat it could cover legal fees and other unforseen challenges that could arise in the future. Based on the CSA challenge I would say it was a darn good decision as this has allowed PPA to stay in the fight. Cash reserves important. Imagine the PPA had to ask members for money to fight CSA??!!! HEck have you ever been to a AGM where a decision from members has to be made. What a moan fest. icycling, how does PPA work as a socialist organisation when the commercial laws under which it operates is written under capitalist principals? Every NGO, NPO or other non profit must have a revenue stream and a responsible organisation with have cash reserves. Lets strip the violin music out of the debate, leave the what if's at the door. What CSA needs to do is get its own business model working and that s where they falter, stutter and fail. CSA should have its own events, membership structure and fee structure. Once it has cash flow it can get going but somehow they have it in their heads that its better to go and absorb a larger organisation.... Porsche tried that with VW and VW ended up buying Porsche outright... CSA does not appear to realise it has an elephant in the room... but fighting in court is not going to reveal the elephant
  22. Tokai will be restored once SANParks gets to that part of their project plan. Right now, they're not there yet.
  23. what a load of tosh. PPA has no responsibility to cyclists representing their country at an international event. Why not ask CSA what they do with their Lotto millions
  24. It won't go further because the interpretation of the UCI's constitution by CSA is flawed. CSA only has jurisdiction over events that want to be sanctioned. They cannot by law be automatically the official sanctioning body for any event that involves a bicycle. Event organisers have a constitutional right to autonomy. All CSA can do is enforce the requirements for cyclists who wish to represent the country as professionals or amateurs at IOC and UCI sanctioned events. That is all. PPA's events fall outside of that ambit. Events like Sani2C, Joburg2C etc are private events that can choose to be run with the sanctioing of CSA or not. There are advantages to attracting international competitors to events if it is CSA sanctioned (and therefore UCI and IOC sanctioned) but PPA that holds no advantage. International pro's cannot be prevented from participating in a fun event. All their contract can stipulate is that if they do, their employer will not cover their personal and medical insurance. They would need to have their own medical insurance. You can distill the CSA trying to force all cycling bodies to fall in line with their constitution as similar to the ANC trying to nationalise all SA's assets... Its the same thing and a really *** idea
