  1. I did a stans conversion using folding TT's, not tubeless, on tube rims and have been riding for a few months without any problems. Maybe I just don't ride fast enough but I really don't have problems with mud. I also think I'm still too slow to notice whether a tyre is a fast racing tyre or not. Maybe not the fastest, stickiest or fanciest but definitly worth the money you pay. So if you are not racing for top 10 placing I would say give it a try.
  2. It's definitely not Groenkloof. They have two trails on opposite sides of the dam, both around 5-7K's long. One is fast flat single track, the other have a nice climb. The only problem is that sometimes they leave it a bit long between cutting the trails and if you don't know it you could loose your way. But when they do cut it is nice. They started at R20 but a few of us petitioned them and got them to reduce it to R10. For a late afternoon session after work it sure beats the hell out of using the road and it's worth the 10 bucks. I stay a few k's away and would ride there sometimes after work of a quick lap or 4. PS. if they haven't cut the trail for some time they will most probably let you in for free.
  3. You can get the permit at the Fountains main gate. Can't remember the exact amount but somewhere around R560. This is valid for 12 months from date of issue and can be used for Fountains, Groenkloof and Rietvlei. ~31 rides and it is paid for and you don't have to hassle with money all the time. There is also a cheaper 'normal' permit for ~R480 that will only give access to Groenkloof. Either one I think is money well spend. I ride at least 2 time a week at Groenkloof and try to do the same at Rietvlei. This is R57 a week. Oh and did I mention that I get 7.5% of the taking for every person that buys one
  4. The groenkloof ride is very nice and includes everything you need. And most important it's safe! I have an annual MTB permit which allows fountains, groenkloof and rietvlei. It has paid for itself this year already. Best money I've spend that you can't ride or drink.
  5. remove whatever sticker you can by peeling then use normal old turps to remove the residue left over (paper, glue etc.) How anybody lives without the stuff is beyond me.
  6. If I wanted to upgrade my threadless headset bearings (caged) to roller/needle bearing would the spares to do this be readily available?
  7. Due to the geometry of the dual sus I cannot fit it onto my bike carrier. I remember I have seen a device that attach between your seat post and stem. Anybody know about this or have ideas on how to transport this thing? yea yea I know - you are supposed to ride it but hey sometimes a man must do what a man must do
  8. I did not read every single post on this as it got very long very fast but my 2c... Yes you don't hit anybody. Having said that 1 - How stupid must you be to cycle alone in the dark and then verbally assault strangers that out number you? I mean get real here, not even macho males can go out training alone these days. 2 - Why is it that females sometimes want to act like males but do not want to take the repercussions that might follow were you a male? Or are surprise if it happens? Shouting and swearing at somebody is something that I would expect from a male in our society (right or wrong does not matter). If a male does this to me there is sure to be some altercation, maybe physical. What make a female think the the same behavior for her should result in a different response? (Not that I would hit a female but not everybody is even tempered or well mannered) I've found people dong stupid things ie riding without a helmet. I just turn and said 'hey dude wheres the lid? Do you know what pain you will have of you fell?' I did not go 'HEY f**kER WHERE's YOUR HELMET!!'
  9. Actually no. I have yet to find the taxi that stop at a stop street, use indicators, use designated loading zones etc.
  10. In all honesty I don't have ANY time for people like you who make general statement like this. The thread is not about what you like, or dislike, but about ideas on how to help better the situation with taxis.
  11. So hoekom is jy de moer in? No fuel was used nor where any animals harmed in this thread. It's just a normal healthy discussion and opinions. But you point is noted.
  12. I'm sure there are those individuals that would want one but with almost all races using online entry these days can you not have an option for this? A really cool 'token' is nice but more than 98% of all medals I ever received only has a sponsor name on. I'm still pissing blood from the last 100K's I did and guess that the medal says? Yip only the sponsor name, not 100k, not even the race name. But I do realize that this must be difficult one for organizers.
  13. I was reading a letter, and response, regarding entry fees and it was interesting that one of the factors mentioned that pushed up cost is the medals. Cost to manufacture, how many to make etc. Now maybe it's just me but who still wants a medal? It is the most useless practice in cycling. My personal opinion is that they should do away with it and rather reduce entry fees, donate the money to charity or put it back into cycling. BTW the only place where it might have any value could be stage races. I'm sure you want to show people you finished the Epic or Sani2C

    Adjusting RD

Yip have 8 speed shifters. If cables are the problem will you not experience the problem across the whole range of gears? Also, should it not then be possible to adjust to compensate for the stretch?
  15. It is easy enough to adjust the RD but for some reason I have a situation where on the middle 2 gears (8 speed) it seems impossible to get it to shift properly. Either it won't shift down properly or it will keep on jumping up under strain. Even the smallest tweak results in either of these two behaviors. What should I be looking at? Chain, Casette etc. is still in good nick.
  16. You must REALLY love that pocketbike man since braided hoses won't give you better stopping power over the normal stuff. Because it's not rubber like on a normal bike there is very little, if any, expansion on the standard. If it's just for bling factor you can get those braided hose 'socks' from autostyle. They fit over normal brake lines.

    8 to 9 speed

  18. Changing from 8 to 9 speed drivetrain (MTB) means I will replace the shifters, RD and cluster. Question - will I need to change the hub or is it possible to install the 9 speed cluster on the same hub?
  19. and don't forget to set the tension. Shimano is set to very hard by default meaning that clipping in and out takes a lot of effort, not something you want when you are going down
  20. I'm no expert but I believe you can adjust the air pressure as often as you want. Download the owner and service manual. I think it indicates what the service intervals are and what to look for. Suppose it depends on how you ride. http://www.sram.com/en/service/
  21. Thx then I believe mine is fine. Coming from road riding suspension and fat tyres is a novel concept to me so I'm still learning.
