  1. This is almost as funny as the 'wrapper' post by now. If I ever come down that way and find that the bridge is missing I think I will know where to go look
  2. All I can say is don't burn your bridges
  3. In a country where you cannot go to the shop without reloading first this is a breath of fresh air. Somebody picked something up and is willing to return it!!!
  4. OK you must be F@#$@# sh*tting me right? I'm not saying who's right and who's wrong. I did not see it happen so I cannot judge. If it's true he is a prick. If it is not then it's a case of mistaken guilt. But you cannot seriously think that somebody should apologize for something when he does not think he did wrong? And yes I have been know for getting out of the car to pick up litter and hand it back to the offender so I'm not trying to defend anybody but this is turning into a joke.
  5. I don't know either of the gentleman so I cannot make a judgment like most did on this thread. For something to fall out of your pocket when you take your hand out is very easy and feasible. For it to look like it has been thrown down to somebody is also very feasible. I've lost unopened gels when I put something in my pocket and taking my hand out. Since he is presumably not a paid employee his sponsor does not have to publicly comment on the issue. He can address it privately which is the right thing to do. For magoo not to enter into a senseless debate is also a wise decision on his part. So the guy has been shamed, rightfully or not, lets get a life and move on.
  6. I really want to do some night rides but I'm curious. Are there no concerns regarding safety on night rides on 'open' roads? I mean riding in the dark through veld seems a bit dodgy to me.
  8. I think there are two different issues here. One being the 25K entry and I agree, if you really REALLY want to ride it it's you choice. The other is the concepts of making money out of EVERYTHING a.ka. the R50 to enter the lottery. This I agree is just plain daylight robbery. Yes it is not compulsory and nobody is forced but why do people have to make money out of everything! It's about the principle. It's the same principle where you do not charge people to give them quote for say paving. Only place where this applies is where you have to do a lot of work to get to the estimate ie. strip a car engine to see what is wrong.
  9. Use mine all the time, when climbing, since I have the remote. Best thing since sliced bread. Never really forget on locked but then maybe I'm not old enough yet.
  10. Ah so your still new to this then This is not common on the road (I have never had the problem) but on the MTB with all the shaking there is a lot of movement that cause things to rub against each other in the bag. The result? Yip you guessed it. I will definitely try the bankie/sock en baby powder
  11. It would seem as if the pistons on the rear brake caliper does not respond as they should. They do not return as quickly as I would have expected. So I have some questions: 1 - Is it ok to split the caliper to clean and lubricate the pistons? 2 - What is the normal return mechanism on MTB hydraulic brakes. You have the spring plate to separate the pads but what is supposed to return the lever and pistons? I do not see any spring mechanism at the lever. BTW they are Promax.
  12. I'm tubeless but I would have killed for a working tube when I had my last sidewall cut
  13. How do you prevent you spare tube from scuffing through? I've been caught more than once with a useless tube because of this. I've tried taping it up but even the tape scuff through.
  14. I use to carry some pieces of coke bottle plastic with some tape. Many time I have stick a piece on the inside of a cut. Works like a charm. Some I even left in for the life of the tyre without problems
  15. How do the pros recover from a flat tubeless? Do they plug the tyre and inflate with a bomb or do they rip out the rim strip and put a tube in? Do they even carry tubes?
  16. O I was assuming we are talking about mineral oil for brake system If this is intended for a shock then I would agree that you need to look at your shock service manual to get the correct weight.
  17. I've been using paraffin oil and it works like a charm. Baby oil would work as well since it is basically just paraffin oil that smells like babies Paraffin oil you can get at any pharmacy.
  18. What Engen is this? The one on the way to Kempton or at R21 office park?
  19. I really feel for the organizers. They really tried their utmost to prevent this from happening this weekend, announcing every 15 seconds as people start grouping on the sides etc. The only way to prevent it is by policing, which needs people and since it is not a kindergarden I would hate to see it come to something like this. Years ago when I was still on the road they actually did this at PPA events where guys would stand at the side and pull side loaders out. OK now I feel much better
  20. In spite of my frustration I had a good race. Actually the 'fat' is more of a metaphor since there were loads of them doing this - big, small, old, young, fat ,skinny, male and female. My frustration has more to do with the actual starting process with these people pushing in front as soon as the gun goes causing others to swerve, brake and all sorts of dangerous maneuvers.
  21. No hope what so ever, in hell or in heaven. This is why I do not insist on side loading when I pitch up late. I go to the back and pass those that I can and let those that can pass me. If an elite rider wants to line up in front of me I have no problem since I won't be seeing him/her again in any case. Maybe your missing the point here?
  22. Maybe somebody can explain this to me (which btw is not unique to MTB): So you have ~700 starters for a race in one batch. Hectic to start out with. You, and some others, line up when requested by the announcer as not to start right in the back. The narrow starting grid fills up quickly and people start pushing in from the side instead of filling from the back. Despite numerous pleas from the organizers people just continue doing it, resulting in a even more chaotic start than usual. No my question/s: Why the F*CK do you HAVE to start in the front if you are not racing, nor have a hope in hell, for the price money? What make you think that you can sit and stuff you face till the last minute and then push everybody around to get your fat body and 50K carbon bike in front of me and everybody else who have been waiting 20 minutes to start? Only for me to pass you on the first incline when it sounds as if your triple bypass is going down the drain. Let me make it clear - I do not have an issue if you and your lard filled lycra is in front of me by virtue of the fact that you lined up first. I also do not have a problem if you come from behind and pass me to finish 30 min before me. I have a problem with you side loading
  23. Riding alone anytime or in a group at night is a bad, BAD idea. How many bodies can really stop one bullet? The unfortunate reality of living under the current government. Do Groenkloof - Get bored, stay alive (until the wildebeest gets you)
