  1. typical German wussie behaviour
  2. maybe i should create a new post called "Anyone want to replace my brake pads" and see if i have any offers of mechanical assistance post Gravel Travel.
  3. Great idea - as long as you have showers on hand? I am unfortunately out this year, work decided it is the annual strategy weekend away. Bastards.
  4. It's only tuesday stop throwing your handbags.
  5. He looks like a future rising star machine! Good luck William.
  6. the Gravel Travel broken bike saga continues, Olympic just called to say I need new brake pads and "there's something wrong with your back wheel are you sure no-one has sabotaged your bike". Something to do with the cassette spinning. I can feel the money draining out of my bank account already
  7. Dear Kevin. My advice is think very carefully before starting this journey of addiction. Biersteker and I could be the same person - I started off on a Silverback Stride 10 and a year later I have a R30k carbon duel sus. Also: consider getting yourself a pimp, it will help make extra cash you need to afford race entries and gear. Have fun!
  8. Emailed the organiser and she said 900m.
  9. You are exactly right. I rode the race last year and then had to try pretend to enjoy the rest of the day with my friends as we visited a few farms. Had a really drunk woman try pick a fight with me at one farm. I avoid these types of festivals - Bastille Day in Franschhoek is the same. Dronk op straat is supposed to be illegal. Also, last year we went to a restaurant in the main street that my friends regularly frequent - service and food just beyond pathetic because its too busy. But having said that, the race was amazing Just skip the festivities afterwards.
  10. work has now chosen this weekend as the 'strategy' session I will be in Villiersdorp pow-powing with colleagues
  11. a meet sounds great - the former high school IRC nerd in me likes the idea. Or maybe we should do a Reeds Night Ride at Meerendal and arrange which corner and time to huddle in for boeries.
  12. oh, i chatted to you guys at the start line too. crazy fool on that bike you are. How did your GF go?
  13. 35km of clay mud that just sticks to everything. There was a short part of the Welvanpas single track that was so slippery it was unrideable (well, to me anyway). I washed my bike off twice during the race but my chain kept seizing while I was riding so I just wanted it to end. Unfortunately this meant I couldnt flatline the last bit but managed to come third or fourth in ladies (beating some blonde teenager on a Silverback, it totally counts The washing machine is going around and around and its not getting less muddy. guess i should have rinsed my clothes and shoes in the garden. FML. will have to do a longer ride tomorrow to make up for lack of mileage and hills today.
  14. The n1 is wet!! It was drier in edgemead damnit I knew I should have stayed in bed and ridden a d'urbanville loop later. I just didn't want to piss tygerberg mtb off by winning free entry and then not using it. I'll be the one mainlining CBC amber weiss after the race wearing Uggs.
  15. yeh except for the fact that i've ridden that area for the past 2 weekends. ENjoy your rear derailleur.
  16. Yes thru Tygerberg and I'm just registering and entering tmrw like I was told.
  17. my friend just spoke to a woman at the cycle shop in wellington (?) and she said its not raining there. Friends in paarl also said its dry. Who do we believe??

  21. ahh milky, i have photo evidence showing you were first man home on day 2, you lil racing snake you. Thanks for opening all the farm gates for us
  22. Wepat I would give Glenda a call and chat about it, it does seem there are non technical route options. I have friends with a house in Greyton so this one is definitely in my calendar, i enjoyed houw hoek but it needs more climbing.
  23. In manner of trying to be serious cyclist, I bought myself a Sigma Rox 6 bike computer and heart rate monitor and its probably going to stay there. Technophobe of note. Need to get my Edgemead cycling mates over to fit it (onto both bikes) and instruct me before Gravel Travel on Saturday. Any offers Can travel and bring beer/wine!
