  1. SRAM 10spd is almost impossible to remove by hand. You need a tool, and don't forget that you need something in your tool bag on the bike too.
  2. Winter training from Riverstone in the dark is over. Just bought my "Spring Time" card.
  3. No, I don't dilute it, you can't because it's water soluble. I drop the chain in paraffin for a few minutes and clean with a paintbrush. Then I put the chain in a little of the red stuff, to remove the paraffin, and then I jet it clean with high pressure water. You can't get you chain cleaner than that. Make sure that you lubricate it properly afterwards because while there is no dirt, there is also zero lube.
  4. I also had a warrantee claim on my rear Float CTD that started leaking oil. Bike shop tried to charge me R800 something rand to service it and replace the seals after sending it to Cape Town for warrantee assessment. I just said "No." They were stunned. I told them that they could either honor the warrantee or never see me again. They grumbled, agreed, and I left the shop with my shock and warrantee honored.. Saying "No." often works for me. Hold your ground. It's sometimes easier to just pay because it removes the conflict situation. And that is what your opponent (who is skilled at this) is hoping for.
  5. No chainsaw needed. You might not be able to ride it away, but you can walk away with it. Nothing securing it to the tree, looks to me like the top tube is leaning against the near side of the tree.
  6. Routes and profiles now on the web site. http://drevilclassic.com/route-profiles-2014/
  7. Sub 4 is about 24km/hr average. 3.25 hours of climbing 45 mins descent. Train for that.
  8. The last time it was used in an event was 2011, so it's probably been replaced with a new one by now.
  9. I have similar very wide flat feet and I found that Giro Privateer is a great fit for me. Give them a try, they are not Silver Bullets, Red Damsels, White Ladies, Aristocrats or anything fancy, but they do the job. Mine are a year and a few thousand km old and still look new (when I clean them): http://www.giro.com/...privateer.html/
  10. I put my daughter straight on a 26 from a 20. I had to cut the seat post so it would go all the way to the bottom, but she loves it. At that age they grow so fast, not worth an in-between bike.
  11. Did a Gran Fondo in the Cradle. First time for me >130km and 1600m climbs. And it wasn'nt even that hard! My riding partner had **** luck and his Jamis Jamison carbon seat post snapped at 94km. Did the rest solo. Edit: spelling
  12. WTF? You can't post that **** here on the hub where there are men who ARE married. Cruel an unusual punishment I tell you!!!!
  13. Who's paying them? Would be nice to show support for his/her business.
  14. Spruit this morning. http://www.mcphail.co.za/photo.jpg
  15. Depending on where the cut is, it should be repairable. Even very thin wires can be rejoined if done properly. Place an ad in the classifieds - there might be someone with a spare part for you lying in a drawer somewhere.
  16. You might find some people at Big Red Barn - that is near you.
  17. Bought new brake pads today and an Anatomic bib. LOL, small wins!
  18. If you sit try to keep the cadence up though, quads will still be destroyed if you don't have good tempo.

    Advice

You are correct. It does sound boring. You need to look at the various travel shows for ideas. They seem to be able to make a story out of a long drive/trip. Bottom line is that you are going to be the subject and the cameraman too, so I don't know how you are going to get that right. Maybe just take all the footage and then get somebody to turn it into a show of some sorts? They do this all the time.
  20. Big Red Barn today for first time. No pics worth taking...
  21. I've used Prepsol before and it's 4/10. This stuff gets 8/10 from me. http://www.mcphail.co.za/Public/IMG_2550.jpg
  22. 9) Stop supporting school development programmes
  23. 8) Allow infrastructure to fall into disrepair
