  1. Nice sound bite there, you can hear the emotion in her voice.
  2. Dude your bike is on your white/cream couch! Either the bike is hectic clean or you're not married, one of the two! :-)
  3. You stick to your methods and I'll stick to mine.
  4. If you cannot get one, I can make you one as a last resort. I have the same RD. It will be much less than a new RD.
  5. If you want to assess a rotor properly, you need a wheel truing rig or some other way of turning the wheel where you can measure with a dial gauge, dial gauge and small micrometer. Anything else is guess work. Use dial gauge to check for bent disk and micrometer to check for thickness variation. http://www.longislandindicator.com/Resources/s1.jpeg http://www.ffx.co.uk/Content/images/tools/MIT102701.jpg
  6. Nylon is too compressible and your seat post clamp with crush it. Have them turn it out of Aluminium or brass at least. You need a bush at the top AND the bottom to stabilise the seat post.
  7. Just noticed how rusty the frame on the gazebo is - geez, they could have at least spruced it up with a lick of paint!
  8. Damn, it seems to be true... http://sportcafe.ca/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/Emilys+Wedding+018.jpg
  9. A handbag?
  10. I reckon there is a sweet spot around the R20k mark for new bikes where you can get a good dual-sus 29er. For that you'll get a decent group set and an alu frame that will last you 5-7 years of weekend training and 10-15 races (40-70km) per year. I bought a 29 Trek with XT / SLX group Fox shocks for R18k a year ago and it's been a great buy. Solid enough to handle some marathons (K2C, Hakahana, Diamond Rush) and heaps of Northern Farms / Breedts Nek rides with mates. Sure it's not as light as I would like it to be.... but neither is my ass.
  11. I find that a regular Addis dust pan brush and toothbrush with turtle wax car wash liquid works well for everything except chain.
  12. The problem with unleaded petrol is ethical disposal. You cannot throw it out anywhere.
  13. I wish I was you.... My bike relegated to the garage, my son's room in the study, the office is in the dining room, the dining room is in the lounge. Its' what happens when you buy a two-kids house and promptly get 'surprise' twins instead of number two.
  14. Momsen = class. Titan? Meh.
  15. I have the same problem on my Trek, but it's the same with all bikes that have the shock joined to the top tube. I solved the problem with a bottle cage offset plate that dropped the bottle 20mm. I then proceeded to prefer a Camelbak and have never used the bottle cage.
  16. Your fingers must be meneer strong. I've never got a SRAM quick link open by hand.
  17. Report back: Used Smoove for Trailseeker #2 Hakahana and it really let me down. By 45km my chain (almost new XTR), sounded like it was going to self destruct. People were listening to my bike and pointing and sniggering. I even stopped to check that my rear derailleur hadn't been damaged it was so bad. And I used it according to directions, evening before etc, etc. Oh well, back to my old faithful methods.
  18. I developed the Ilze Involuntary Dismount Scale (IIDS) after a friend of mine started dismounting fairly often. Level 0 : Rider claims involuntary dismount occurred, but cannot provide any evidence or witness. Basically, it never happened! --> Treatment : None Level 1 : Involuntary dismount witnessed, but no visible injuries to rider other than pride. --> Treatment : None Level 2 : Minor bruising and grazing of skin, no blood. Includes getting smacked in the privates by your stem without passing out. --> Treatment : None Level 3 : Substaintial bruising and grazing of the skin. No wet bleeding. --> Treatment : First Aid Kit Level 4 : Bruising and cuts with flowing blood not requiring stitches. --> Treatment : First Aid Kit Level 5 : Temporary loss of consciousness not requiring hospitalisation. Includes passing out after getting smacked in the privates by your stem. --> Treatment : First Aid Kit Level 6 : Bruising and cuts with flowing blood requiring stitches. --> Treatment : Outpatient Level 7 : Substantial bruising, sprained joints requiring recovery and treatment of joint by doctor. --> Treatment : Outpatient Level 8 : Extended loss of consciousness or concussion requiring hospitalisation and CAT scans. --> Treatment : Hospitalisation Level 9 : Broken bones requiring hospitalisation and resetting with plates and pins. Internal bleeding. --> Treatment : Hospitalisation Level 10 : Let's hope nobody goes here. --> Treatment : Not required.
  19. Nobody cares what you are wearing. I have surplus Sani2C gloves, surplus Transbaviaans arms warmers, Cows bib, heck, I would wear the Yellow Jersey if I got my hands on one. Just pitch up and enjoy the ride while other people stress about clothes.
