  1. Aah, that wasn't immediately apparent from the article, but I guess If I compared your tyre weights to the table I could've figured that out. Still, I would have thought some characteristics could be directly compared despite difference in wheel size.
  2. Looks amazing. Hope this hasn't been destroyed by the fire that raged there the last few days. It looked massive last night. According to AFIS Muratie was pretty much at the center of the fire.
  3. What do the import duties and courier costs typically work out at for purchase from these guys?
  4. So, now, the million dollar question.... Where can you buy these? I basically went round to every single bicycle shop in Cape Town last year to try and find these. Only managed to source a single pace star tyre (no trail star). Oh and mine cost a cool 900 bucks. I believe you also tested the Onza Ibex. For a Western Cape trail / enduro setup, which do you prefer?
  5. The Trek really is a nice bike, but it's just too expensive for what you get in components. Unless the seller can come down by about 15 to 20k Trek is going to have a very hard time breaking through SA's Giant and Specialized saturated market. (oh and with the recent change in local distributor for Trek I'd like to hear more about how the lifetime warranty will be implemented with certainty in the future. Right now Trek's a bit of a gamble for me to buy.)
  6. Pretty sure I saw those bars at Jonkers on Sunday...
  7. Loved it! Everything was awesome! Thanks to everyone involved in making this event happen.
  8. Hi NicoBoshoff. Not to deliberately throw a spanner in the works or anything, and for all I know you may well be the man the decides what is and is not open to ride in Jonkers, but I do have 2 cents to contribute here. I live in Stellies and stick to all the rules on what trails to ride. I have kept off all the trails and roads in Jonkers that were closed since the fires. Every time I sign in at the gate I ask the dude that works there what is open to ride, On Tuesday I asked him specifically if the route to get to Saaltjie (i.e. the one in the picture) was open and he said that after 5 (and when the guys are finished logging for the day) it's open to ride. If this is not the case then the gate staff need to be better informed, especially if areas are not taped off either (which it wasn't). That said. I don't want to get killed by rock slides or falling trees, so if there is a miscommunication between management and gate staff at Jonkers that is a serious concern.
  9. Brilliant. I wish I could say that one day when I grow up I want to ride like those guys, but alas, it is too late for that. I'll try my best though.
  10. Geez. This thread has me all paranoid now. Sounds like most times nothing happens, but what do you do when things do go pear shaped? Any doctors out there with some sound advice? I've heard all sorts of conflicting advice (e.g. "suck out the poison" and "never suck out the poison" or "move as little as possible" and "run like hell". I guess much of what you do will depend on the situation, where you are and what kind of snake bit you. Would be good to at least have basic a plan of action in case of a snake bite.
  11. I wanted to go very badly, but my mates are unfortunately too entrenched in their budgie smuggling ways. Next time I'm just gonna go without them.
  12. A bunch of new (possibly Strava driven) lines are also developing all over the show on those trails. If the people making those lines continue at the rate it's going now, pretty soon we'll just be bombing down a straight line. It's sad to see how little some people care for the trails.
  13. Riemann P20 is the best that money can buy in my opinion. Its rather expensive though. Techniblock is much cheaper and works nearly as good.
  14. I am very happy to hear that Super Sywurm. I understand that to some it might seem counter-intuitive, but using a light at night for cycling (and indeed for various other activities like driving a motor vehicle, hiking, reading and preparing food) has been proven to increase efficiency dramatically.
  15. I have one that I've borrowed from a buddy, but haven't bought one myself just yet.
  16. Any night rides in Stellenbosch? I've never done one, but I'm keen to try (especially seen as daylight hours are limited now). I'm probably pretty average when it comes to fitness.
  17. Thanks Joggie I am actually quite happy with my Scott, rides like a dream, but If I have any serious issues, I will contact you.
  18. I ride in any conditions,, dry, wet, volcanic eruption, mudflow, nuclear fallout. I'm just afraid I cause more damage than good opening up things up that are supposed to be sealed. Those are very useful point you mention though. For the amount I ride it probably makes sense for me to do something similar. I just find it hard to justify the costs of sending the shock in for a service, and then there's the time without a bike to ride. Thanks for the tips.
  19. It might well be the case that I have not maintained the pivot points like I should have. I clean the bike properly with a bucket and a sponge after every longer ride I do though. Any pointers on what else I should be doing to keep these pivots happy? I've only had the bike for about 6 months now (bought new), did not expect suspension problems this soon.
  20. My 2013 Spark 920 is in the shop for its first issue as we speak. The shock lost pressure after a muddy race over the weekend. And a rather sinister creak has started to develop, sounds like a pivot point.

On Wednesday a mate of mine managed to destroy one of those KCNC jockey wheels. Lost a few teeth due to a rather annoying stick wanting to catch a lift. They're not noticeably noisy at all (based on riding many hours with him). He is riding SRAM though (XO), so I guess both Shimano and SRAM have their issues.
  22. Awesome, thanks for the input Now to get my hands on some of them, watch them, and then subsequently hit the hills totally over confident . Better get the gap cover on my medical aid sorted out now...
  23. What is your favorite mountain bike DVD? There are quite a few out there, new and old, but which one makes you want to go out and ride more than any other?
  24. Wow! Seems like I'm spoilt for choice. Thanks for all the helpful posts.
  25. I'm looking to get a bike fitment done, specifically for XC MTB. Im pretty now on the scene and I don't know what the options are. Would be nice to hear from others that have had fitments done what their experience has been where they were and what the options are. I did a 100km ride this weekend and suffered a fair amount of lower back pain, numb crotch, and towards the end a bit of knee pain. It's quite clear that my setup is not right!
