  1. Clean them properly with Methylated spirits and then put them in the oven at 120 deg for 15 minutes or so to dry them out.( I have also used a gas blowtorch to heat them but you have to be very careful not to burn them) After this rub them on some emery paper or against an abrasive surface eg. a paving brick. to remove any glazing and surface contamination. Clean and degrease your discs/rotors (also with meths.)You can also run a bit of emery paper over the disks to dull any polished surfaces slightly. It takes a good few stops to bed them in after that but they should be fine after a 15minute ride or so. All of the above is of course useless if your brake lines have air in them and your caliper is not properly alligned so check these as well.
  2. I`d also be interested in that?
  3. ? That's wrong. sies!!...en yuck! Yeah! Leave the curtains out of this !

  5. Shimano make a very good spd with a plastic cage/platform
  6. No, Same as your tool...you can insert less of it but you cannot make it grow any longer.
  7. The bar ends are fine....the colour bothers me though....You will forever be branded a Bulls supporter....?
  8. I am not someone that habitually complains but this race turned into the worst events I have ever attended. A couple of issues 1. Route was poorly marked with a major wrong turn less than 2km from the start. This escalated into a farce of missed turns and u-turns as riders tried to figure out which way to go. I did an additional 8km in all of this confusion. 2. Parts of the route were unrideable specifically a section of single track starting at `Glens Gulley` ( Not sure this name is right?) at the between 55 - 60km mark . this idiocy lasted for approx 5km and at times I had to convince myself that there wasn?t a hidden camera somewhere . Surely there should have been a `Route B ` in the event of the wet conditions on this trail. There is enough jeep track and reasonable single track around that would have bypassed the worst of the mud wrestling. I think the race has actually damaged parts of this trail considerably. This section of trail spoilt the entire race for me which despite all the other issues was still fun up to this point. I suspect that some of the locals with inside knowledge probably bypassed the worst of this route.( Providing they were foolish enough to attend in the first place) 3. When I got to the finish line the organizers were almost finished packing up with quiet a few riders still to finish. This is not acceptable GIVEN THE CONDITIONS. 4. My timing chip did not register at the start and I think the mats had already been removed by the time I finished .Time according to polar CS600 - 6:33 ? Distance 78KM. This also happened to my friend and a few others that have been logged in the results as `Not Started` This may be equipment failure under the conditions but is still annoying. 5. I pity the few who traveled from far and decided to brave the weather only to be disappointed by this poorly planned event. I for one will not be back. I believe that many will agree with me. 6. I believe this race is riding on the back of the brilliant Amashova which I thoroughly enjoyed and managed to ride in 3:37 7. Congratulations to all the riders who completed the race with me despite all of the above. I don?t mind tough conditions but If we are not having fun then what`s the point.? All of the above aside. Scraped the worst muck off and rode without any problems....Gears changed without much complaint....I was truly impressed by Messrs Shimano and Giant. DirtyFrank2009-10-21 01:17:00

  10. I don`t see these as examples of failure?...Driving alone in city traffic in a big 4x4 is an epic fail...The examples shown are all A+ pass.
  11. My CS 600 Claims ascent was 1050m. It always seems to under read by approx 10% when compared to the GPS based units. Anyone have similar experience with these units and know how to calibrate these units or is this simply a matter of the barometric units being less accurate?
  12. Hi Gasping. Nobody is above the law. One crime does not justify another. See how quickly a crimen injura charge will take you down. Just do a little search and you'll see that it's one crime that is taken very seriously in SA. There was a case not too long ago of a disgruntled ex-husband who got charged for posting lurid ads on Gumtree about his ex-wife. They traced the ad poster back to him and he got jail time for it. You see the consequences of your actions might be quantifiable. While this guy might have said some hateful things, and openly admitted to assault, you guys are doing things which might damage his business reputation and wellbeing, thus, if he can prove this (like he might get blacklisted for the phoney credit card purchases, pizza etc) he could lay charges. Sometimes jokes have real consequences, thats all I'm saying. cheers I tend to agree with your sentiments. It seems as though we are reacting to a very `patchy` and confusing post with way too much emotion. by all appearances this bloke is a very sad individual but we are starting to play in his pond by threatening to kill his poor fish and calling his missus. While I doubt any of this is more than mere venting by the hubbers (and amusing to say the least)Leave it be and rather deal with this clown when he actually does commit a offence rather than reacting to his silly rant.
  13. Conti Mountain King 2.4 Tubeless if you are a big guy. Strong, durable and rolls very well. Perfect for your conditions and very good in thick sand too.
  14. Being a newcomer to the roadracing scene can anyone explain the fundamental differences between a Race and a Time trial bike. I can see the bars differ and a more `aero` design for the frame and wheels perhaps....What else?
  15. Sounds good so the upgrade would be advised. RP23 is a good match for the RLC
  16. RP 23 if you can afford it but your fork performance may not match the shock then....If the fork is good then yes but if it is a budget spec item then you are probably wasting your time.
  17. the +1.5kg is what makes me shiver. ` At 95kg I Don`t care about a piffling 1,5kg. The actual weight gain is probably closer to 800gms once you factor in the deraileur etc.
  18. Just keep that measuring tape away from the bedroom as she may be curious and then she may be very dissapointed!
  19. The internal pressure of the shock/tyres is always measured against the external air pressure and this is reflected on your suspension/tyre pump gauge. The pressure will increase relative to an increase in altitude(If you inflated the shock at sea level) but this will most probably be offset due to the drop in temperature as the altitude increases. The inverse would apply when traveling down to sea level. This increase in pressure is relatively minor even when measuring sea level relative to say +3000m. The increase in temperature that your shock/tyres can experience in a race due to constant friction/compression etc. will probably have a more profound affect on your shock pressure than the change in altitude does. All the horror stories of tyres exploding in mid flight are mostly nonsense and would probably apply to highly inflated roadbike tyres but even these have such a high safety margin over and above their max indicated pressure that exploding is unlikely. I am sure an Engineer will elaborate.
  20. https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=57366 Check out the offer of Bontrager tubeless rims on the Hub. Seems like a good deal to me?
