  1. the +1.5kg is what makes me shiver. ` At 95kg I Don`t care about a piffling 1,5kg. The actual weight gain is probably closer to 800gms once you factor in the deraileur etc.
  2. Just keep that measuring tape away from the bedroom as she may be curious and then she may be very dissapointed!
  3. The internal pressure of the shock/tyres is always measured against the external air pressure and this is reflected on your suspension/tyre pump gauge. The pressure will increase relative to an increase in altitude(If you inflated the shock at sea level) but this will most probably be offset due to the drop in temperature as the altitude increases. The inverse would apply when traveling down to sea level. This increase in pressure is relatively minor even when measuring sea level relative to say +3000m. The increase in temperature that your shock/tyres can experience in a race due to constant friction/compression etc. will probably have a more profound affect on your shock pressure than the change in altitude does. All the horror stories of tyres exploding in mid flight are mostly nonsense and would probably apply to highly inflated roadbike tyres but even these have such a high safety margin over and above their max indicated pressure that exploding is unlikely. I am sure an Engineer will elaborate.
  4. https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum_posts.asp?TID=57366 Check out the offer of Bontrager tubeless rims on the Hub. Seems like a good deal to me?
  5. Front Brake?
  6. maybe he is branching out. Reckon it must be Ironwood?
  7. On tar.... 305KM/H, GPS .....Hartebeeshoek road....Modified Hayabusa On Dirt....74km/h....Breedts Nek ...Trance X0
  8. Tubeless is best but stick to proper tubeless/UST tyres and rims. Most failures i have seen have been with conversions. You must also use sealant to get the full benefits.
  9. None of the above. Rather go to your local Gym and do at least 2 spinning classes a week. Combine with a few toning circuits and you have a more complete and varied training. This way you will not be stuck with equipment that stands around after the novelty factor has worn off. You may even score some points with your medical aid.
  10. The race was not dissappointing. This is a tough race and is advertised as such. However I agree that there were many organizational issues most of which have been mentioned in the other responses. I`d like to add the following. 1. Parking for an event like this should be included in the entry. The charging of parking fees at the gate created a massive traffic jam which which delayed many and was dangerous to all. 2. Maybe I did not look properly but there were not many First-aid/Emergency response teams to be seen given that this is a reasonably dangerous race in places? 3. The water points were spaced poorly in places. 4. I don`t expect goodie bags or free junk but the basics must be in place for a safe(as possible)race.
