  1. For the average rider that rides maybe 1500km/ year 1 major service at R600.00 is not bad but there are some riders out there who do that distance in a month....for them it would be an expensive hobby if every service was carried out by a bikeshop.....Most things are easily done if you have a bit of mechanical knowledge and the right tools. Servicing BB`S and Freehubs, changing cables, clusters, chains and brake pads are all reasonably simple ( Although I still struggle to get the perfect shifting setup that the bike shops manage) Having said that I like supporting my LBS (Linden) as they give me great service and would never rip anyone off.
  2. Great on the front but wear quickly on the back and roll slowly....rather use in combo with a 2.2 Race king on the back as this lasts longer and rolls better. You can expect 1500-2000km from this combo if you stay away from the tar.
  3. Gone to bat for the other side ?
  4. Are you riding Mavic Crossmax wheels/hubs perhaps?

  6. Speaking from personal experience Have replaced my Suunto T4 hr strap twice and currently broken again. Menus and functionality are illogical and buttons snag on clothes etc. to easily. Good only for spinning IMO. Have had polar CS 600 for almost 2 years. Fantastic trouble free unit and good service from agents.great memory and great for downloading training calender with route profiles and comprehensive hr info. Use it on mtb with speed only and roadbike with speed and cadence. I find the Protrainer calender is a great motivational tool.
  7. Yeah ....Eddie the Cannibal is da King.
  8. Just like there is nothing wrong with saying Zimbabwe is a world leader in democratic government!
  9. Agree with that.
  10. I agree this is also roughly (1,68) the same figure I get to when comparing energy spent/time/distance. The whole debate is pointless though as the variables in gearing/terrain/weight are simply too great to make a proper comparison.
  11. My Polar CS600 always under reads by 10-15% when compared to GPS units. This is probably due to the recording interval and the relatively slow adjustment cycle of the barometric units. I am sure that GPS units are more accurate.
  12. Hell man..... whatever happened to a Windhoek and a boerie roll in front of the telly with your legs elevated in the appropriate reclining position?
  13. This type of patch only works on mtb tyres providing the pressure is less than 30 psi/2 bar. They are only a temp emergency fix imo.
  14. Go to Makro, buy the cheapest mtb you can find . wrap it up nicely. Declare it at customs on the way out as a Specialized Epic.....Tell them you are doing a race in USA. Give it to a needy Yank and bring your new bike in. Dirty it up a bit first though. Worth a try.
  15. I get the idea most people are under the impression that these shocks have a lock out...`pro pedal` is not a lockout in the true sense of the word and will still be active under fast compression. Personally I have a dualie with maestro suspension which is supposed to minimize pedal induced bob and I still use the propedal setting for 80% of the time as it does undoubtedly improve pedaling efficiency on reasonably smooth surfaces and when i stand and pedal.
  16. Agreed, this is a enthusiasts forum and if somebody asks a question that may be of interest to them surely this is not a sin. You are also not obliged to answer every `silly` question. Live and let live.
  17. 2nd that....What, are we roadies now that things are considered uncool due to some prevailing fashion sense?
  18. what exactly does it do other than look completely harmless?
  19. Imagine the landmines this puppy can produce....
  20. The best trainer is the one that you actually use....most of these things have seen very little action as we have a near perfect climate for cycling.....in Belgium and England though..! Realaxiom Elite is pretty good though if you rig up the DVD to your bigscreen and try a few TDF stages.
  21. Can`t say anything about the way they taste but they were pretty . Apologies for the scenery mixup.
  22. Thanks but I`ve already been introduced to Bulgaria at Teazers some time ago and what a fine place it is!
