  1. Note sure where exactly in Gauteng you are, but Ive used the following to people and they are nothing short of epic. For a chiro, you can contact Sunil Rama in Benoni. He is awesome and looking after quite a number of cyclists already. He does not just bend you into a new shape, he tries to work with the muscles first. His site is: http://ruleoutpain.co.za/ If you are looking for a biokineticist you can chat to Patricia Gouws in Bedfordview. She really knows her stuff and is a triathlete, so she understands us. Her site is: http://www.pgbiokinetics.co.za/
  2. I see that the price is listed as R9499.99 and the sale banner and saving xxx has been removed. note: I included my PC time in the screenshot just as a reference
  3. I enjoyed the 62. Pushed myself as hard as I could and Im pretty happy with the results... The Guys in AS were pretty fast. Had two tandems sitting with us towards Carnival City, think they came in 5th and 6th. I have to admit that I hid behind them for a KM or two.... Our gazebo was at the start and I helped a lady with an allen key to tighten her seat post. Hope she was OK. as she cycled off I thought to myself that the seat was too high, but then again Im no expert. One note, I managed to miss the Coke/water/whatever table at the finish did I just not walk far enough?
  4. My wife has a set of DH wheels and shes done just over 6000KM on them (got them second hand). We had one issue with the bearings on the front wheel, which my LBS sorted out. I have a set of Tokens and I can definitely recommend them. Warren is tops!
  5. A lekker event with absolutely epic marshals! The wind and sun made it a tough one.
  6. I firmly believe that you need the right shoes when running. I for example have tried to run with other shoes, but I always go back to my trusty pair of Asics Nimbus. That being said, I cant see how shoes can really make someone run faster on tar unless its got some soft of spring in the sole, or maybe wheels. IMHO shoes cant make you run faster, it can only make the run more comfortable.
  7. Im pretty sure the shoes does help a bit, but anyone running under 3min/KM for 42KM is a frigging machine. Yes the environment was controlled and yes the shoes are state of the art, but at the end of the day there was still someone filling those shoes, dragging them forward (not that there was any dragging involved). Lastly, not many people can get close to that speed, not even when sprinting to the whitehouse after chowing the vindaloo of justice....
  8. Agreed. I thought the Trapnet would reduce their numbers, but Meals was well supported I just wish the people manning the water points would have gotten out of their chairs, but I guess if thats my biggest issue then it was a great day all in all.
  9. Some feedback from a weekend warrior (A bit late I guess) This was a great race and all of the people I spoke to said that they will be back next year (we were about 10 from our club that made the trek to MP). The route was great and fast. The road surface was not bad at all and the traffic was very quiet. I understand that it was supposed to be full road closure but unfortunately we have to rely on others to provide it. The couple of vehicles that did slip through was really not an issue. The start was OK, nothing major but I think the situation with the loo's was avoidable and should be addressed for next year (if the start is to remain the same). The only major change I would like to see is markings on the road where there are holes or uneven surfaces. There was quite a few awesome downhills with the odd pothole and it would have been great if we had some green or yellow paint on the road to warn us. This is nothing major and Im not sure its allowed, but as few races in the Eastrand does this and it really does help the cyclist. Some of my teamies used the bus back to the start and they were impressed with how the bikes were packed and shuttled back to the start. All in all a very lekker race, WELL DONE to the organizers. There is no reason why this race should not have 1000+ riders. Last note, there was a lady that did the ride on her e-bike. I dont know how this was handled by the organizers or whether there was a category that catered for this. No major issue from my side other than the fact that it might give her an awesome seeding in future races, which I feel is a tad unfair (not that it affects me in the least).
  10. I roped my mother in law in to drop us off at the start and then take the car back to loskop... I think it would have been great if there was a bus from loskop to the start, but then again, I dont know whether I like the idea of my bike on one of those trailers....
  11. Thanks Pieter! I managed to get a new chip today
  12. Looking forward to the race this weekend! Just to check, will racetec be at the venue on Saturday morning before the race? I might need a new chip after putting mine in a super safe, epicly logical place (that I still need to discover again....)
  13. Ill definitely pop them a mail. Ive lost just under 14KG since January, so Ill definitely have to get my measurements done properly.
  14. For now the goals are very modest, I want to do sprint at the end of the month, a 5150 in August and a 70.3 in 2020. I think Ill rent a wetsuit and take a chance on the Sailfish. If I hate the sprint then I can still run and cycle in it... If I love my first tri, then my budget my need some rework...
  15. Thanks. I was looking at a Sailfish Spirit trisuit from cyclefo and it is priced very well, but I was worried about how it will feel on a bike
  16. So what should I look out for when buying a trisuit? I assume I must be comfortable running in it... The ones Ive looked at had zero chamois, just a little lappie? Is that normal?
  17. Thanks Thanks for the advice! I dont really know how far I actually swim in the pool since quite a bit of the training is done with paddles, fins or boards.
  18. So I decided I want to do a triathlon (I mean why suck at one sport if you can suck at 3 ). One problem though, Im really a novice when it comes to swimming, its only been part of my life as a recreational activity when on holiday or at a braai The running and cycling is not a problem for me, Im slow but I can do a 100KM ride under 4 hours and a 10KM run under an hour. Now the question is how do I actually get myself ready to do all 3 in one go? Ive done a couple of training sessions on Saturdays where I would cycle 30KM and run 9KM all in one go. Should I maybe try an openwater swim first before I attempt my first sprint? I was thinking of doing the Redhub sprint end of April, but Im sooo nervous about the swimming. All my swimming training has been in the 25M pool (heated) at the gym, under the supervision of a very strict coach. All training sessions lasting an hour or so. Ive been told that it is best to get a wetsuit, whether it be rent, borrow or buy. Is that true? Do I really need a wetsuit for the 750M swim? I guess it will be quite cold end of April... Ive been looking at getting a sailfin tri-suit from Cyclefo. Any feedback on them? At the price Im sure it is worth the gamble of buying online? TL:DR: Want to do triathlon but the swimming is scaring the bib shorts off of me.... Do I need a wetsuit and a trisuit?
  19. Maybe they are selling for a friend? At that price I might actually consider going near a Makro (I hate that place)
  20. Im talking to the guys in our club about this, sounds fun! We might just be the slower group
  21. I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed the ride. I have to admit that it was hell trying to find a nice group that stuck together (I started in C so it is somewhat understandable). I also had some issues overtaking slower guys on some of the nastier hills, the traffic just did not allow for it. One issue my wife had was that she could not get water at the first couple of water points. She eventually got at the 72 (ish) water point when one of the people working at the table gave her his Valpre bottle. This is nothing major and easily fixed but I think it is important to provide something other than juice or Powerade.
  22. It looked like the turn-around for the short was a bit of a mess... Some guys only did 39KM. The DA water points were pretty decent, thanks for the salty potato and coke!
  23. Was a fairly tough race for a lazy weekend warrior, but it was fun. I helped a lady change a flat 3KM into the race, but I lost her when I got back on my bike. I hope she was OK and continued to ride. I cant remember the bike she had or her name though.
  24. Im also a n00b but in my humble opinion you should get yourself measured at a few shops. I also used height as a way to try and determine frame size and almost ended up buying a bike that was too big for me. The difference, in terms of comfort on the bike, between the bigger bike and the one I eventually got was quite scary. As for the components, I can only tell you what others told me, 105 is awesome, Tiagra is OK, sora is cheap. I spent just under 10k on a new Scott speedster 30, with Tiagra gears and alu frame. You can obviously get an awesome bike 2nd hand if the size is right.
  25. So eventually I bit the bullet and got a new bike. I when to 4 shops, all saying I need a 52. Apparently I have short legs. Anyway, got a Scott speedster 30 and did my first 60KMs yesterday.
