Morewood why do you think some people would choose not to ride on the cycle lanes.Could it be that in their opinion the cycle lanes are not safe and in fact they feel safer riding on the road.There are sections of the path that are safe and sections that are dangerous.Lets look at what the city has given us. 1st its NOT a dedicated bike lane.It's a lane around 3 meters wide and in some sections its 2 meters wide.This is for 2 way traffic so in sense most of the time you have max 1.5 meters in one direction.This has to be shared with cyclists,runners,dogs,bergies pushing trollies and yes the odd vuka scooter that decides to use it.This is all fine when riding with 1 or 2 people but when you get a big group it's dangerous.At the same time there are sections in the road where the yellow line or shoulder is double that of the cycle path and the bonus been you don't have to deal with poles in the way or oncomming traffic.There are sections i use the cycle path and there are sections i feel safer on the road and use that.I would challange anyone who says the path as a whole is safer or saves lives to bring be some proof.In the short time the path has been there i know of 2 broken bikes,3 people attacked,and 1 broken collarbone.I myself was the guy almost taken out by a vukascooter comming towards me on the path while going to work.So how do you address the fact that some people genuinely feel safer on the road.

  3. Whats with all the smoke and mirrors? 1.Christoph has been riding the area for mor than 10 years,he knows where he can and cant ride. 2.He was TOLD he cant enter so he decides to jump the fence. On twitter he comments how pissed off he is because they treated him like a child. He's an absolute idiot.There are a lot of clubs and individually working hard with farmers for land access and building trails and all it takes is something stupid like this just to f%ck it up for everyone.He's arrogant and broke the law. A few nights in a SAFA jail would of sorted him out.

  7. I think this is totally the right way to aproach this.There is no need to get agro,swear and carry on just like the prick who just threw the wrapper.The next thing YOU get bliksemed and all over a piece of paper.

  9. Forget looking at how many km you do a week and fall into the trap of more miles = getting stronger. My average week i try and do 2x 20min intervals twice a week and one longish ride on the weekend.When using HR it is easy once you get your HR up to soft pedal and still keep it up.When using a PM if you stop pedaling or soft pedal it tells you straight away.There is not much harder than doing a 20min TT using a PM and FTP.With the PM you end up doing less or no junk miles and only do Quality miles.

I am a total bike slut,probably owned well over 80 bikes of all brands and to date.A powermeter is the best money i have ever spent.If you are married and have kids like me and you are pressed for time it's the only way to go.I now ride less and am stronger than before.I ride league(vets,middle of the bunch finnisher)and train between 6-8 hrs week.Powermeter with windtrainer is all you need.Just be prepared for some pain.Quarq with garmin 500 is what i would recomend

If i had to choose between the 2 i would go with the spez.Having said that remember with spez you are stuck with thier fork and 142 rear axle and wheels.If you have a problem with the rear hub then you are stuffed beacause they dont have spare hubs and will have to buy a whole new set of wheels.The GOLD standard and to me still the BEST 29er FS is the Santa Cruz Tallboy.That would be my number 1 choice if i were looking at all 29er FS.
  15. Also heard the exact same story when i was at Sani this year.More and more evidence that he is a full of BS.2 things are clear to me dude. 1.You dont take care of your equipment. 2.You dont know how to ride a bike. Get a set of training wheels for yourself.
  16. There is no better training than on a trainer with a powermeter i mean.The main reason i bought the revolution as you said it saves the back wheel/tire.A real work of art it is.
  17. Gets very good write ups i must say.Just got myself a lemond revolution trainer a month ago and together with my power meter has been money well spent but also the most pain i have EVER experienced .
  18. You obviously got some vested interest in the race dude.You can only compare to other stage races if the Grape Escape is of the same standard and offer the same.Unfortunately they are neither.Last year they ran out of water at the water points,nothing further said.

  22. Guys should really say if items are in stock or not.Really peeves me when peaple FIRST take your money and they you only find out items not in stock.Ordered some cycling kit online from a SA website,paid,still waiting over a month and dont hear a thing.

Sorry dude but if you are 108kg loosing 10kg should be easy.This worked for me.1st dont do any races while you trying to loose weight.HR runs too high and you won't be burning fat,which is what you want.I've had 15/20 hr cycling weeks and not lost a single kg just because you running in the wrong hr zone.2nd try exercise 30 min every day HR under 140,pref in the evening.If you got a gut,go to gym or do sit up/press ups at home.Aint going to loose that gut cycling.4/5 meals a day with last meal before 7pm.Reduce or cut carbs and INCREASE protein.To start make it easy and eat as much protein as you like.If you want that 1kg steak,have it,just portion it thru the day.One of my favorite meals at the moment is just a piece of steak and some strawberries.Protein and fruit are a great meal.Carry a cycling waterbottle with you at all times and drink.This will often kill hunger pains.Non suger fizzy drinks are ok,i prefer tab because no caffeine.Last and might be impossible is cut the alcohol.Very difficult to loose weight if you dopping. This has worked well for me.If i am training or have a race in a few days i will of course change the carbs/protein ratio in my diet but as many have said we normally place too much emphasis on carbs. Recovery/slim shakes never worked for me,still felt hungry afterward and ended up havingf that and food. Just my 2C SB
