Agree with Hendrik,hate the masks etc but looking at finish line footage there doesn’t seem to be any protocol’s at the Epic.Last thing you need is government officials to close the event down🤦🏻‍♂️

Already a couple of riders withdrawing testing Covid + after prologue 🤦🏻‍♂️

Hence my question. Guest farm, private parking, cctv cameras. how do you walk in and drive away with 12 bikes. Paarl a small community. Someone definitely knows something.

200k Im talking specifically to the youngsters who thinking of a career in cycling. Not those who going to end up just doing well at your local PPA race. Its lekker to follow your passion but somebody’s got to pay your bills. If you want to dream, take a nap.

Tough route but so it should be for SA’s. Basically 20km 400m /lap made for some tough racing.Just my 2c after watching the different age categories.While it was fantastic to see the talent(and I’m talking about male and female)coming thru,it is also interesting to see who IS NOT on the level. To parents out there who have youngsters who have dreams of a career in cycling.If your youngster is 30 min off the pace,or getting lapped,or getting passed by the 40+ Ladies they do not have a future in cycling AS A CAREER.Please make sure your kid has a plan B.I was shocked to see so many youngsters with 200k bikes, all the backup from mom and dad, way off the pace. Yes there is a few young talent coming thru male and female. It still remains very little.

Pity our world tour riders in men and woman won’t be there. ‘Makes for fireworks light

From what I heard all regions gave a bid then CSA decide who gets it. Im sorry but gone are the days of “let’s try give everyone a chance and spread it out.Rider safety should be one of the top priorities .Seriously if a municipality can’t even have semi decent roads,struggling with water and electricity and the area deemed unsafe etc. they should not even be considered .

How should the 50 + men feel riding the same distance as junior men🤭 You got a section of the lap that has road works and a stop-go section in it. nearest government hospital is 30km away and nearest private hospital over 100km away. Sounds about right for the usual CSA organising.

Think they are all working from home at the moment bud.

Currently owners just not interested. Been approached on couple of occasions with options. ‘Willing to pay,after hours etc etc but he’s just not interested in cyclists. Would rather have a empty track than have cyclists on it

All this talk you guys have got me seriously worried. Entered the race, coming up from Cape Town thinking it might be a lekker little holiday for me and wife. Got some serious reservations now especially since we had a fellow cyclist killed in a PPA race here in CT yesterday. Since I’ll already be up there should we rather just go do SA’s in Graskop

I know it’s nice to have someone following handing out bottles all day and we had a mom/dad following our bunch doing that.Only problem is it gets dangerous at times and we almost had the bunch taken down at one stage when dad was trying to hand out bottle on side of road while bunch came past at about 40km/h Could of also ended bad.Imagine if all 30 guys in our group had a car following. These wannabe pro’s in PPA races🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

Shoo that was a bit hot.Next time I’ll get a mate to follow me around the course in the car handing out cold water and ice packs like some riders were doing.Definitely the way to go when it’s hot

On a side note specialized used to do a swop out when customers sent their shocks in for service.In other words you send your brain in for service and they send a brain back to you that has just been serviced but not your original shock. This always irritated me as I would have preferred my shock back.Not sure if that is still policy or if things have changed over the years.

Welcome to the world of specialized 🤦🏻‍♂️.This is coming from my experience of owning every version of epic since they came out until I changed brands a year ago and haven’t looked back.Every year the spin about the brain is the same (problems fixed,more sensitive etc etc) but in long run they all remain the same. Unfortunately you are between a rock and a hard place.Spez keep record of every suspension service history and if you miss a service don’t expect warranty or have to pay out of pocket yourself.In short no another shock won’t fit and you have to get it serviced by them. Im sure there are lbs that can service the 2020 brain as it’s not that complicated but if they run into problems and you have to then go on your knees to specialized expect resistance.

As everyone has said the extra power and torque going thru ebike drive train causes it to not last very long.Definitely waaay less than your human powered machine.The new ebikes moving to 12spd has also not helped. Imo the best drive traine for a ebike is 10 or 11 speed.Even less if possible. Ebikes don’t need all those gears and definitely don’t need axs etc. Dont believe in ebike specific chains etc,just like ebike specific saddles. This is all just from my experience

Sorry to hear about your hassles.Unfortunately the problems with the dura ace 9100 Pm are well documented. Unfortunately shimano backup in SA is non existent and even in an event that they would warranty anything (which they rarely do) they would tell you they don’t have stock.
