  1. Havent used the others brands so cannot comment on that. Switching between bikes is really simple and they come with 3 adapters depending on your seatpost profile. One rubber band. Simple, fast and sturdy. I switch between bikes all the times... no issues at all. The new varia can connect to your iphone as well so i assume will connect to your watch as well granted its a smart watch.
  2. The Varia is actually a no brainer if you riding on the road. Not only is the radar a very good safety tool, the actual rear light is up there with the best in the market in my view (Bontrager Flare). The day time flash is very good on the Varia. The amount of people that still ride around on the road without daytime lights (front and rear) is beyond me. Its certainly not a finacial limitation because said people are all on bikes worth well over 50K. Wishing this rider all of the best!
  3. I see they have changed up the route coming back from the cradle for this years race (Next weekend)- now coming home via Cedar. Should be interesting but should be safer than the previous route. Interested to see what the turn out will be.
  4. With Gravel Tyres. 38c Panaracer Gravel King SK if memory serves.
  5. Gravel bikes are awesome. A real do anything go anywhere bike (within reason). That being said it will never replace the road bike but it certainly deserves a place in the garage. My gravel bike is roughly 10% slower than the road bike which isnt really all that much if you going for ride with mates/club.... wouldnt do any road races on it though because it is slower. Gravel bikes biggest advantage must be said is that our pot hole filled roads can do some serious damage to your fancy deep section road carbon rims so riding it on the road you have slighly less to worry about. Lower tyre pressure and tubeless setup also make for a much more comfortable ride on the road.
  6. That is possibly even more more mind blowing then.... Having no idea on the actual costs behind it all but my assumption would be it wouldnt cost that much more than hosting provincials? So Gauteng for example just hosted us in the cradle, how much more would it cost to have SA champs there? Im sure there must be a lot of complexities behind the scenes that we are all not aware of. Well I hope so because if not then it doesnt make sense.
  7. It still blows my mind that SA Champs is held in Oudtshoorn. I recall the SA champs in Pretoria in 2019, the crowds were huge, the number of entries seemed postive and then we go an move it around to a little town that is not central to much. If you want to have it in CPT then have it in CPT, not somewhere that makes logistics a nightmare. Just my 2 cents. If CSA want to grow the numbers/sport, make it easy to participate.
  8. Agreed, expensive if you getting the license just to do this once off event. You could join ROAG as a virtual club which is a R140 yearly fee. That would have brought your total down somewhat. If you race throughout the year it softens the blow. Obvioulsy without the discussion of what you actually get for your membership and license fee but that is for another discussion entirely.
  9. I thought the turn out was decent considering the current turnouts you see at other road events. Racing has taken a dive in my view. Unsafe dangerous roads, cost of entries etc... That being said, the race entry for yesterday was no higher than other races currently, well marshalled with motorbikes and a festive feedzone with tons of support. We also got a decent race distance, 130km for our group at least. Not just that 90km flat racing we usually have to put up with. It is a real shame that the sport well at least the racing of the sport has declined over the years.
  10. I cant recall clearly but at the time was there not speculation of the driver being under the influence and the fact he tried to flee the scene but the car was too damaged to do so? None of those facts in the article? Surely that would have a much greater impact on the jail time or sentence handed down?
  11. If advertised specs are to be believed - 6.850KG in size 55 is pretty impressive. Marketing BS aside, to my knowledge that would be one of the lightest full aero disc brake bike out the box?
  12. Going to be an interesting case to follow.... The amount of trainers Wahoo sold for the purpose of using Zwift... going to be a messy divorce....
  13. 100% agreed, if a driver is looking at there phone there is not much you able to do. I Actually I find the front day time light pretty important, specially on downhills when cars are facing you head on and signaling to make a turn in front of you. Either way even if the day time lights make me 2% more visible I would not ride without one. So much so that if I happen to forget to charge my light and the battery is dead, I will not head out the door on my bike, I would rather do intervals on the IDT.
  14. The amount of people that don't ride with daytime running lights is criminal. We are so vulnerable on the roads, I cannot understand why people do not use them. The proper day time running lights are so effective and don't cost the world, relative to the value of the bikes you put them on. This being said probably the most criminal thing is people not stopping at traffic lights. You can be as visible as you want, jumping lights is going to get you killed. End of story.
  15. The shock and surprise of the audience is always funnier than the actual story.... Come now people, we cannot surely be surprised when these stories surface.😉
  16. Only 1 bad day in 3 tours.... Now that is fishier than JV's fingers....
  17. Bontrager Flare RT. Still one of the best. Daylight visibility from claimed 2km away. Never ride without it. Been caught in the rain, wet roads, some mud when riding offroad, no problems.
  18. Did I mention fasted? I don't recall doing so! I was talking about whilst eating on the ride. Have your breakfast and head out the door. Once you have had a good breakfast you don't need to eat for a little while (sub 3 hours of riding).
  19. Far too much eating going on here. No need for eating on a training ride unless you going over 3 hours. After that a banana or 2 is plenty. Food cannot replace a lack of training or fitness. Keep it simple, eat less, train more 😃 Racing and stage racing a completely different story though.
  20. Such a pity they put forks on the 20" kiddies bike. It just adds weight and makes these bikes heavy for the little guys and gals. Scott Roxter still has to be the pick of the bunch in this segment.
  21. Its excellent to see such hype and interest in the Elite Womans race. Such a pity its for all the wrong reasons though. Anyone else feel like there should be a spotlight and some TV time for the VETS and Tandems? There are a few official teams and sponsors in these groups that I believe should get some exposure. The VETS racing groups account for a huge portion of the "racing" and zero to little mention of any of it. Its not surprising to see the size of the racing bunches shrinking.
  22. Shesh, Froome must be battling to adjust.... disc brakes, bilharzia and off the Ineos program.... that is a rather large change in one year!
  23. That is correct for 947. However in the "smaller events" you will only get into the racing categories if you have a current CSA license which you need to apply for.
  24. Yes, so there will be a podium for all racing categories. So therefore a VB rider cannot win in the VA Category. Each racing category has their own start and time. The overall winner of the race however comes from the Elite men and Elite woman categories.
  25. In the racing categories there is racing, strategy and tactics at play. Lets say 15 riders fall off the back of the VA main bunch and land up with VB batch. Those VA riders can influence/ get in the way of the racing currently at play in the VB bunch. the same is true when a racing bunch catches the group ahead. its been seen before where the break of VB has caught the main VA bunch. the main VA bunch has to sit up and cannot jump on the back of the VB break. each racing category has its own race underway and therefore riders from other bathces are not allowed to influence the race.
