  1. More participants = more money. To enter SA's it cost R170 per person (1 discipline) x 479 entrants (according to the starting list) = R81,430.00 (and that doesn't include those that entered both TT and Road, or 2 road categories - AM wasn't the only one). I heard, through Liefie Day (not personally I must say), that Klerksdorp is bidding to host SA's next year and are putting up a considerable rand amount to host the event for 2 years. So, until our governing body sorts it's affairs out, any plonker can enter SA's. The R part makes sense why they allow anyone to enter. If that is the issue, allow provinces like CGA to enter as many teams as they want limted to say 5 or so, it happens in Cross Country. Its just a sad state of affairs....
  2. In Athletics it works that way, duathlons also, well at least when I was doing it many moons ago. That is alos the meet, where the National teams get selected etc, but seems in Road Cycling , doesnt need to work like that. Have some of your nat Champs week following the only multi day stage event, 2 days after the World Fun ride champs, and then amost 3 months later, have the rest of the champs.... It should be an honour to go and represent your province and not yr club at the Nat Champs....
  3. I dont know much about cycling admin, but it makes sense to have provincial champs, pick teams to go to SA's, and have the best competing. Now it seems that anyone with a racing licence can go ride SA's no matter where you ended eg in yr provincial champs. Do you even have to compete in the champs? Why do they award provincial colours? and on what basis is it done? If you can afford to go to SA's , you cn go and ride. The sizes of the fields are laughable, eg u/10 girls - I see one finisher???, etc.. SA's should be a prestigious event, and a highlight on the calender.
  4. So if I understand correctly , what you are saying, is currently happening in the Open cats, where I ride now in "B" , there are riders from all ages, but more or less same abilities. Prob is the system doesnt work too well, because they update it to long after a certain event, and if a rider has a seeding index of x, based on a race a year ago, and havent done anything inbetween, he will still be seeded acoording to that x index, and might be totally out of shape for eg?
  5. Mallo , not sure I understand how that is different from current system? Except for the smaller fields of 100 you suggest. Care to elaborate?
  6. Thanks Frosty I saw the results, and not surprised that Deon won.
  7. Thanks I'll have a look WW, werent any results when I checked earlier.
  8. Name and shame.. I still wanna know who the first 3 were?
  9. What was the podium results for the 40-44 RR cat?
  10. Where did he ride the TT? 35-39? What happened in the end? Did he race or not?
  11. what was this all about?
  12. did you maybe get his hubname?
  13. this looks so authentic The LA debate is so boring by now, its never gonna end. Was said earlier, you either love him, or hate him - wtf. if he indeed doped, and got away with it, he seems to be very clever if he didnt, many more people will be envious of what he achieved. let it rest, the truth on this matter might never be known. he still rides a mean ride, and deserves respect for what he achieved - at this stage its still an achievement , cause the opposite hasnt been proved (quite frankly , it never will) Go LA!
  14. Andy- in the south we cannot be without lights, so no prob if its dark for 10/20 mins. In the south, we dont care how we/our rides look, as long as we are visible. Besides the sun is up at 6:15/20 now, so by end of June prob 6:30. Unless you are scared that the south group might get lost in the dark when you start at that evil speed.
  15. I vote for a 6:30 start. Its prob going to take at least 3 hrs, depends on how long you guys are prep to wait for us slowcoaches when we get dropped.
  16. I joined Clab halfway through the year in 08, and only paid half the joining fees. I dont know anything about Club 100, but the Lab setup ito racing is very jacked up. Live in Alberton, joined the Heidelberg club, cause its closer than 4ways. It depends what you want from your club, I am not too concerned about any of the social stuff etc, but what I do like is: - Ride mag subscription as part of benefits - able to get discount when purrchasing from Clab - ITO getting tips & experience from one of SA's best Andrew M, you cannot go wrong. Lab has about 5000 members countrywide, for what that is worth.
  17. Good news stories rock Well done Yang, not a lot of your type around I have always believed that the Hub has a bigger purpose than just talking crap and spending money. Put some spice in Supercycling by taking this story to them , I'm sure we'll soon be finding much more stolen bikes, and not just in Moz.
  18. I make use of more than one LBS, try to get the best prices and service. For bike service - C/lab 4 ways/Westdeme/Cajees Oakdene Buy from - Kyalami, The Cycle Hub, Westdene, C/lab, Cajees I have had good service from all of them. The relationship building is important due to the fact that I believe you get a "better" deal if they know you and see you coming back.......
  19. Will this kit be available for anyone to buy? My wife is pink bedonnerd and I would like to get her a set.

    SA's

If he is capable of racing on both days - so what? Isn't the reason why there are teams in road cycling, just that, to make sure a team member wins???? Or am I missing something here. How many races are won by team tactics? Not many single breakaways that win races/stages, if the team behind does not control the bunch? AM in this year's Argus is probably the exeption to the rule. I reckon the teams decide in advance who they will back to win, and that's how they race. Is Graeme and AM both racing 45+? Last year Greame was SA Champ 40-44 if I remember correctly? I think AM will try and help one of the Lab team members to win 40+ race, rather than win it himself. Th eglory goes to the team anyway, although the winner gets the medal? Are there no team prizes at SA's?
  21. On the topic - I am a LA fan, and belive that his comeback is something that cycling needed following all the negative attention the sport is getting. He wont race to come second or be a right hand man to someone, If he doesnt belive he can win the TDF he wont race it. Whether he'll manage that is another story, and the Giro is proving that, but its still more than 2 weeks left, so lets see. As for the comment - I think I know about the issue you are mentioning (if it was the Eben incident). Fact still remains, a man shouldnt insult anyone , least of all a lady, in that manner. No matter what harm he'she has done to you.
  22. Says a women who is always smelling like she is on her periods. But anycase the point is is that you can ride and train with a bust collarbone you dont cycle with your arms. you use your legs. Colonel, I dont know you from a bar of soap, but what I have seen from you on the hub has forced me to make a call on you. There has been many rude and uncalled for things said on the hub (and it would continue as long as the hub does), but this comment is the worst I have read so far. If that is what you can publically say to someone, I wonder what you would say to them in person.... Its pathetic bru, and I sure as hell hope you have the balls to apologise. You wouldnt know, but if you wanna call yourself Colonel, it used to be someone with dignity and integrity
