  1. Every time I curse myself for riding with the Camelback and a mini toolbox and spares and first aid kits in. Then the huge mechanicals happen and I read stories like this and it just makes the decision seem right. Rather have it and not need it than not have it. Hope he gets well soon, and everybody else who had a fall as well.
  2. It's down the road from me.......and the steam summer sale is this month.....my poor bank account 0.0 Thanks for the heads up Patches.
  3. Also, small rocks, big rocks, hard rocks, soft rocks, rolling rocks, I flicked a rock into my frame so hard that I had to stop and check that I hadn't snapped it in half, sounded like a gunshot.
  4. So much this. The biggest take away for me as well, sapped my strength and will having to stop and slow down constantly.
  5. So the 45km....I was not as fit as I would have liked that's for sure.....in the end I finished in 5hrs 28 min, with only 3:25 of that spent moving. My riding partner for the day struggled with a tight chest and breathing problems(damn smokers!), he had 2 falls one OTB, one smacking ribs into the rocks, smacked a rear derailleur against a rock at 15km and ended up with only 3 usable rear gears and terrible shifting, 2 punctures, one complete valve failure, one SR Suntour shock behaving shockingly( ), basically one mechanically unhappy bike. Not wanting to abandon him I soldiered along, repaired, replaced and pushed him to the finish. As for me, the downhills were amazing, I hated and loved the rocks at the same time, kept me on my toes and killed my wrists. Bike never missed a beat, a shift nothing, even decending at stupid speeds over those rocks. Only thing I found out that as good a general tyre Racing Ralphs are, they do not like sand. My only fall for the day was completely stationary, one foot clipped in, adjusting helmet, one of the younger kids in the 45Km clipped my bars and down I went hard before I could act. All in all this was one of the hardest and worst days of my life on a bike.....and I loved every second of it. Next year I'll be back for more, hopefully fit enough to go for the full monster!
  6. Meguiars gold class as well. Used on two black cars.
  7. I did not.....so I got taken by an April fools joke......the end of may!
  8. Mines luckily not preventing me from riding, but got Hijacked two weeks ago. So I know the feeling. Sympathies guys.
  9. I'd say look for a cheapish GoPro mount, replace the bolt with one that'll fit the camera.
  10. My word.....then I'd rather budget for a new chain every month. Seriously too much time on his hands!
  11. On that topic. Anybody have an opinion on the Trek Stache? I'm wanting to get a new ride/rides. And I'm having a Silverback Sprada 1 one bike or Giant Anthem 2 27.5 + AN other hartail 29" two bike crisis in my head.
  12. Haven't ridden the 29er Revel 0. But I have the Revel 0 26" After swapping out some drivetrain and cockpit bits it's become an amazing ride. Feels awesome and light and alive, so can't recommend them enough,
  13. Think it's time for a custom vinyl that reads GT destroyer.... on the new frame ofcourse!
  14. Quick google agrees that X0 is the same.
  15. Just want to send a rave out to some awesome service I received this weekend. Took the bike out to Thaba on Saturday, 800m into my ride my derailleur hanger that was apparently cracked already decides to let go completely sending my SLX derailleur through the spokes and locking wheels. After a mild skrikking af of the gat and survey of the damage I went in search of replacements for destroyed items. First stop cycle lab fourways, David assisted and had a look for me but couldn't find one in stock but said he'll have a look for me and let me know on Monday. now I'm so jaded by now whenever I hear that I just think whatever, not gonna happen. Next stop Cajees Fourways, wonder of wonders, there's the exact hanger I need hanging on the rack, I check the price on a new XT shadow derailleur and it's spot on, Awesome service the entire time! And to top it all off, just saw a message on my phone I missed from David, saying he got a hanger for me that will be in on Thursday, going to pick it up as a spare. Great service from 2 shops in one day, and this on a Saturday afternoon at 2. Both shops will definitely see more of me.
  16. Yup definteley a must. I use the Joe:s no flats kits. Cycle lab has then for R450 odd. Rim strips, rim tape, sealant, and valves have removable cores. Have used them with Geax tubeless and Schwalbe tubeless ready tyres. Works great on both, tubeless ready just takes longer to seal.
  17. From experience. Whatever is close. Don't go doing any stage races but most events cater for every skill level. Look at the short or middle distances. Even if you finish last. Which I have twice......my bikes loves mechanicals in races.....its still an awesome day out and you learn.
  18. I'm im as well for chipping in. To help in a small way. Also. Good on you Bogus and those crocs nees to be sacrificed ritualistically
  19. Sounds like a challenge....
  20. Also just saw this. Awesome very happy for carpet. And big ups to everyone involved in recovering!
  21. This is my opinion and what I've found to work. I love the Finish line Wet lube(Green One) sticks for a long time, dead quiet drivetrain, but attracts dust like mad. So what I do is wash the drivetrain, lube chain with the Finish line wet lube. Leave it to soak a bit, wipe off excess, so only remains in the links, then I use the Finish line wax lube (black and silver) in between washes, sticks well, lubes well and keeps dust and gunk off.Not the cheapest and I'm sure there's better but worked for me so far.
  22. Hi Linds Myself and a friend do some rides at modderfontein and want to try out benoni country club, we're also doing quite a few races. I'll add you as a friend and drop you a PM when we head out again. Will just be a while he's busy with exams. And we're still quite slow
  23. So many innapropriate jokes in my mind right now........must resist.
  24. Haha, I'm a dutchie who can speak perfect english without an accent whatsover. When people see my very Afrikaans name, or hear me switch I have gotten many a strange look, en vloek in afrikaans is net die beste...
  25. Not sure if it will work. But the bottom brackets are less than R200 by the looks of it. Might be well worth replacing.
