Same thing happened with me a couple of months ago! Only, there was no robot...just a slow turn off (this youngish guy chucked an empty 1L water bottle out of the slowly moving car....my moer stripped immediately and I raced to cut him off...turns out his gf was driving - she got such a shock...she just bursted out into tears and shook like a leaf (thought she was being hi-jacked!). I made them turn around and go pick it up...told them to go litter in their own neighbourhood (CY registration...) I almost felt embarrassed for my lunatic actions, but my moer really stripped and this time I could actually act on the situation... My family just sat wide-eyed in my bakkie while I ranted at this car

This is a conundrum! The "thief" will get some $$$ for the bike...and walk away to get himself another one!! Affirmative shopping... As much as i would like to have the said bike...what is this "thief" going to learn from the excercize?? - stealing pays??? Last time i breached such a topic here..the uber Hubbers grilled me for being all sorts of things...

Here's my take on something similar...unfortunately not a GoPro but I had to stop for this cell cam pic. it was quite late afternoon...in Stellenbosch. Steep uphill and this gave a perfect excuse to stop and catch my breath!!

I (we actually) have to agree with this.... a MTB operating under "normal" use...as a slightly different horse from a V8 operating under "normal" conditions... no way you'll ever spin your hubs & bearings at any RPM's nearly high enough where specialized grease come into their own....

I'm actually referring to using the SYRINGE only!! No bloody needle near me! I'll be prone to stick myself ...and i prefer heroin over molybdenum... So, just a big ass ol seringe...the nossle alone is just large enough to dispense a nice bead of grease for any bike application!

Currently riding with Avid elixir's...previous bike had XT on... Can't really fault the AVIDS THUS FAR. Regarding the XT's really easy to bleed and maintain...did it all myself in 5min! But from the look s of it...the Avids will be just as easy... BOTH SYSTEMS STOPS MY BIKE EQUALLY WELL!! And I'm still alive after many km's of trails...

As I understand it the brake pads will deposit something on the disks that is essential for good grip....after that it will appear smooth again? I.e all the roughness filled in with brake pad resin...

Two weekend back I made the "mistake" of puring some contents of my water bottle (Energade!!) onto my front disc whilst riding - to get rid of some excessive mud! Bugger...did that thing glaze over??? instant squeal...I realized my error and found some water next to the trail and washed most off...but squeaking persisted until home...had to deglaze and voila!! Bob's your uncle... PS: resin pads....

Boet, you haven't SEEN the air pollution here in Cape town!!! enough to make your brakes squeal!! :eek: Seriously, the 1000's of bikers here uses the same brand etc. so why should your squeal, just because of a change of location? I think it's something totally unrelated...and unique to the non-resin aspect??

Here's a tip for using any old grease... go to the nearest Vet clinic. ask them for a used (i.e old) BIG syringe ....A horse evr will be a bonus... take said syringe and put your grease into that...makes for a perfect and presice grease dispenser!! Note: just make sure the dog / horse did not have rabies!! (just kidding)
