  1. I think I might end up with the same recipe you and Hacc are using for that last km's
  2. I also find it (prev) useful to dilute water and Coke 50/50 (as it brought the Cho concentration down to ~6%) and to keep my fluid intake < 600 ml / h, i.e. ~150 ml every 15 min's or so. BUT as I got slower (and more bored!?) near the end of an ultra, I exceeded this by quite a margin in the past, causing the loop of - feeling tired - drink Coke - feeling MORE tired (because of the CHo), drink MORE Coke etc. I just didn't realise it at that stage. At the moment I am in an experimental phase re this, but I have not run far enough for proper testing since I started with banting. (Only up to 21's - this will change soon though) So to be honest I am not yet sure how I will approach a mar+, but we will see.
  3. Make sense, and then there is the small matter of electrolyte loss as well See you on the road - Personally I plan for the Akasia Mar end Jan. ATB
  4. Perhaps post here for more visibility as well? https://www.facebook.com/IntelligenceBureauSA/
  5. Another question, how many riders typically on this event? (I did went to look for previous year's results, but got only dead links, e.g. https://www.asgevents.co.za/pages/results/index.php?rid=0&rp=1 )
  6. My very first time as well - with no seeding my start time is 7:50 for the 80km. Does it mean I still have to finish < 13:00? As I total newbie I thought the start time is @ 6:00, which allowed 7h https://www.asgevents.co.za/satelliteclassic/therace.html Official starting time: 22 October 2016 at 06:00
  7. Thanks for all the info and advice guys, it is much appreciated! Kind regards PO
  8. Dear all OK - I did some searches on the Forum but perhaps not good enough to find the proper info so here goes. My daughter got Olympic MTB cleats, so two questions: 1) Recommended pedals? 2) Recommended LBS (Centurion area) for setup, as I believe it is quite NB to do it correctly. My 'research' up to now shows Crank Brothers, Candy etc are perhaps 'not as good / limited lifespan' as Shimano, and require more rigorous maintenance? Your opinions will be appreciated. Thanks Pieter
  9. See http://www.backtrack...cker.io/#/faq for some answers. The flash interval increases as the object come closer, which might alert the driver 'subconsciously' : http://www.backtracker.io/#/the-device As the data is available a speed measurement of approaching traffic (digital) on your handlebar display unit could perhaps have been a nice add-on Good idea nevertheless!
  10. Hi all My daughter lost her sunglasses at TBRB last week, and it was recovered and handed in to Mondi over the weekend. Many thanks to the person who did it, and also many thanks to Mondi and team who assisted with this. Much appreciated!!! Pieter.
  11. I just finished reading "The Secret Race: Inside the Hidden World of the Tour de France" by Tyler Hamilton, and it does seem to not be as prevalent anymore as in the past? Yes, you will get the odd rider doing it, but even the timings of certain 'standard' stretches in certain races are more or less back to what it was before the widespread (esp team) doping. Reading this book gave me personally a lot more insight into what happened behind the scenes, highly recommend!
  12. Also still undecided, Virb vs. Hero 3+ etc. Any new Virb users venturing an opinion perhaps? Thanks
  13. After spending lots of $$$ / time / energy etc. over a long time on cycle racks (hanging models), exploring various other approaches (while pulling my hair out), I am now happy with the Buzzrack 4 cycle carrier Lockable / can tilt, with lights etc.
  14. Son has the Vida 4 29er, which is in essence the Sola 4. Good kit for a fair price, VERY happy with it! (And not tooo heavy either.) Highly recommended.
  15. Good morning guys Thanks for your support and encouragement. I don't want to labour the thread, but allow me some context please: - The road was a 'jeep track' - iow two parallel tracks; - The group of high school riders was passing the group in question; - One of the other group called out something like "hey xxxx - a high school girl is passing you!" THIS is when the action started; - I like to believe we are courteous on the trail, and when we ride together as a family I always shout 'FIETS' (as I am at the back) so that we can pull off as soon as possible; (We normally ride together but my daughter joined the school group Saturday morning.); - We just love the sport and have great family debates on e.g. 650b (wife and daughter), 29" (son) and I on my 26" ; - Although not pro, we do enjoy doing MTB trials together ; To get back - the reason I posted here was to be as objectively and fair as possible as there might just be three sides to a story, and I am basing my reply on what I know at this stage. It is not acceptable in my book to bump a person off only because he/she is overtaking you. A rider can 'anticipate' a fall when he/she can see it coming, but not when it’s happening out of the blue. Apart from the possible risk of injury, is it fair to get your equipment damaged thought other person's malicious actions? My daughter perceived this person as quite aggressive and intimidating. It is unacceptable for an adult male to 'hit' (cycling wise) a high school pupil (or anyone for that matter), period. In my book I classify this bullying behaviour in the same league as woman beaters. I SALUTE the riders in the other group who took this guy to task, and I thank you for that. Kind regards Pieter.
  16. Hello Meentb Thanks for your reply. OK - my credentials, I have been a reader of this site for quite some time (years), and even bought a cycle carrier rack from a member many moons ago. Yes - That is what happened after he did it on purpose, she lost her balance and fell. (Apparently he also did it to another child passing him.) I have one version of the event - I am asking for more info re this from eyewitnesses. I think it is a fair request? (He was part of a group of approx. 15 riders it seems.) Thanks Kind regards
  17. Afternoon all According to what I hear my Gr 10 daughter was pushed off the track (two-spoor at that stage) by a gentleman putting his bike front wheel into hers, yesterday at Groenkloof during her ride. Timeframe roughly 7:20-8:40. The description I got was the rider in question is approx. mid 20's, blue and white cycle top, and a bike with green Rock-shox? (Bike could be carbon?) Any eyewitness (or even the rider is question) with possible more information please? Thanks Pieter.
