  1. True, but generally speaking, most people that can afford to race stage races could probably afford the ride the wheel size of their choice. Bikes are like spouses, choose what you like and what you can afford, and don't judge or be jealous of what your mate has got.
  2. The only question left is ask is did you catch him later on the hills? The fighting for postion in the beginning was funny......... few were laughing on those hills later on!
  3. I really like this pic, the contrast and shadows create such atmosphere!
  4. Bikes are like everything else, computers,cellphones..... there is always that new thing round the corner, unless you have lots of money to play the keep-up-with-the-Jones's game, find what you like and just enjoy. Years ago everyone rode a 26 and were blissfully ignorant. What I ride now is a machine compared to my bike when I was a kid with permatubes in the tyres, miserable brakes and a steel frame that weighed a ton, but at the time I thought that bike was amazing. So if its got two wheels, and it keeps you fit, just enjoy
  5. I agree, my grandmother's used to fake asthma attacks and roll on the floor, until it was picked up.
  6. Swissvan broke the hub, because I can't post pictures anymore, sorry
  7. HeHe...You'll see me when I pass for all of 30 seconds. Enjoy the view while it lasts.....you wont see it again for the rest of your ride
  8. As you can see from the patch sewn on the cushion in the topleft corner....this is not the first time!!!
  9. Dear dad..... Before you come home from work today there is something we need to tell you.....
  10. I imagine this works well for the guys, but will backfire miserably for us gals. I'll stay tuned for more advice.
  11. www.tourdekrantz.co.za Lekker climbs and awesome views. Sat 16 August Harburg Kzn
  12. I also used to ride....on the way home sometimes stop at the cafe if I had a 20c to play games. Then make up some story for mum to explain why I was late.
  13. For JPC.....as promised
  14. Have you ever heard of an idiot savant? It means I know lots of complicated stuff, that is quite useless, yet 90% of the time I have no idea where my car keys are!!
  15. Hence your post the other day about hubby's farts? HeHe Drafting in the draft!
  16. I'm not going anywhere......this is a serious thread....for serious riders
  17. This is it! Because if Force equals mass X acceleration (Newton II), then your acceleration is equal to Force divided by mass. Greater mass therefore slower acceleration! I agree, for mtb faster acceleration is key!!
  18. E(kinetic) at bottom is equal to E(potential) at the top. Potential energy gained in a climb is generally equivelent to kinetic energy (speed) at the bottom of the hill. (If you have not braked and friction is negligable) So all the extra speed coming downhill you've worked for by pushing a heavier bike uphill. Please someone correct me if I've got it wrong
  19. For the road definatley......On the mtb.......must count the pain/guts factor. Doesn't help me being light and climbing fast if I'm a bit chicken on downhills and pull the brake
  20. And even i f two people produced exactly the same watts and weighed the same and rode the same bike, they still would not finish at the same time. I think at the end of the day, how much pain you are prepared to suck up makes the difference. (Its in your head)
  21. Losing weight off my body has made more of a difference than if I were to lose the same weight off the bike. 10 kg heavier and it was alot of hard work to platform, lean back, platform some more, lean to the side, jump etc etc. "Working" the bike was hard work. The more I've lost the more agile I've become. And THAT has made the difference for me.
  22. I agree Gen....We are doing the wrong sport if we were looking for talent....thank goodness we have our hunks already!
  23. I had a roll-on-the-rocks prang a while ago, put a few scratches on my bikes paintwork. Went and bought a R27.95 bottle of black nail polish and used a pin to carefully fill scratches. I've also got cable ties holding my cycle computer in place.
  24. Sign up for midmar....its a jol.....we smack each other silly sprinting for the first 150m meters until we find someone with good pace, that can swim straight to draft behind!
