  1. The truth is most riders at races are not very fit and don't have expert tech skills. It was interesting doing my first race, starting right at the back unseeded. I saw aunties panic at the sight of every pebble and oomies start puffing at the bottom of the first hill. But to ride up their butts and try pass in the singletrack just makes the aunty more nervous and the oomie more self conscious. There is always more than enough district road and jeep track to get ahead, you just need to be patient for a few minutes. I have never yelled 'track' to someone and never will. After three races, I'm seeded better and have few hold ups.
  2. I enjoy articles about trails in other parts of the country. The more pics the better. Especially if the review comes from different viewpoints, for example a pro, a weekend warrior and a complete noob. A column for us die-hard 26 er fans would be good too
  3. *SLAP* I am a girl, so what???
  4. No advantage at all. Actually a disadvantage, I have an extra 150g in sportsbra I need to haul up a hill. I am yet to meet a man so chivalrous, that he offers to carry my water bottles for me.
  5. I find if I need to overtake, a "Hi, mind if I pass on the right?" works like a bomb. Especially if we are climbing, guys move out the way no problem. I did enjoy this weekends race a few kays from the finish I slowly overtook a lady in some jeep track, and as I came past said," We are nearly there... lets chase some guys!!" She picked up her pace a bit and we pushed each other to the end.
  6. And her name? She already looks like she is looking for something to chew!!! Those flip flops are first on the hit list!!
  7. Hi guys, firstly I just want to say that I am by no means a fundi on the subject of doping, but one thing keeps coming to mind regarding the subject (relating now to ALL athletes not just DI) I find it hard to understand how a professional who with OCD-like precision follows: -a scientific training programme -an eating plan and knows what they eat down to the very last calorie -a specific nutrient supplement regime All tailormade for the individual needs to peak and perform at their best "accidentally" injests something. I really am sitting on the fence, with this issue. Even their meds I'm sure they would get from specific manufacturers and suppliers. I will continue to follow these threads.
  8. I know what is wrong with the picture, the bike is parked with the chain still under tension. Look at the back cassette. Do I get a prize?
  9. My giggle for the day...
  10. Im 172cm tall......i ride a specialzed epic comp. 26 er. Frame size medium. Have not changed anything and have no problems with the boys saddle. I enjoy a full sus but prefer the suspension to be quite stiff.
  11. Jenny (litte one already fully grown) and Jemima (large one). We were joking over the weekend and calling the Jenny our 26er and Jemina our 29er.
  12. I love the hub. Who says chivalry is dead?
  13. 1 post if you add a selfie
  14. Seriously, the 1000 post rule, does this also apply for gals? I'm sure for us 10 posts is ok?
  15. Easy, you don't have to say anything, just post lots of pics on the ladies and bicycles thread. (And like all of Rouxtjie posts )
  16. Oooh eeh eehh, more suikerkaskinades regarding the classifieds today. If we had played this game yesterday Dips would have lost. Welcome to the hub Jenna.
  17. I'm not holding my breath. It is probably long gone by now.
  18. Thanks Mazambaan. I'm bummed. It was converted to ss last week friday. Chainsaw had not even had a chance to ride it yet. Our contractor was actually quite cross, as it is the reputation of his business that can be affected by incidents like this. Another bike was stolen last night in our area too. This bike theft is becoming ridiculous. In the meantime, the contractors are still here and I'm feeling very unsettled being alone, and they have access into my house.
  19. Getting back to the original colour issue, from a gals point of view I dont mind the odd splash of pink on a bike, but not with white being the dominant colour. If the black and white on the bike of the OP's original post were alternated, I would say OK. Just look at Ladies and bicycle thread post 7711. This girl means business and the black and pink bike looks good.
  20. with lots of sticky I sing
  21. Well I've had a sucky morning with hubbys bike being stolen...even if it was a 26". So I'm having my morning coffee paging old editions of "mountain biker" magazine from ninteenvoetsak ( ) where there are lots of pics of pros riding 26' and my bike is featured in full page spreads as"technologically advanced" and "new developments in cycling" I'm already feeling better....sort of
  22. Definatley, they are my next port of call, the builders have just arrived to finish up, and I've offered R500.00 for the "Impimpi" to talk no questions asked.
  23. Chainsaw's Morewood Kwela was stolen last night from inside our complex in the centre of Howick. It is a white 26" er singlespeed with mavic wheels and avid juicy 5 brakes. The bike was locked inside our bakkie canopy, as hubby works away from home in the week and takes the bike with him when he commutes early on Monday mornings, to ride in the week. We have had builders the last week so I think it is an inside job, our complex in secure, private ( cannot be seen from the street) and surrounded by mounds of razor wire and spikes. It could not have been an easy feat getting it over the wall so some planning was most definatley required. Please hubbers keep an eye out. We appreciate it. Not lekker This is a pic of the frame, before conversion to singlespeed with a different wheelset and shocks.
