  1. Thanks Mazambaan. I'm bummed. It was converted to ss last week friday. Chainsaw had not even had a chance to ride it yet. Our contractor was actually quite cross, as it is the reputation of his business that can be affected by incidents like this. Another bike was stolen last night in our area too. This bike theft is becoming ridiculous. In the meantime, the contractors are still here and I'm feeling very unsettled being alone, and they have access into my house.
  2. Getting back to the original colour issue, from a gals point of view I dont mind the odd splash of pink on a bike, but not with white being the dominant colour. If the black and white on the bike of the OP's original post were alternated, I would say OK. Just look at Ladies and bicycle thread post 7711. This girl means business and the black and pink bike looks good.
  3. with lots of sticky I sing
  4. Well I've had a sucky morning with hubbys bike being stolen...even if it was a 26". So I'm having my morning coffee paging old editions of "mountain biker" magazine from ninteenvoetsak ( ) where there are lots of pics of pros riding 26' and my bike is featured in full page spreads as"technologically advanced" and "new developments in cycling" I'm already feeling better....sort of
  5. Definatley, they are my next port of call, the builders have just arrived to finish up, and I've offered R500.00 for the "Impimpi" to talk no questions asked.
  6. Chainsaw's Morewood Kwela was stolen last night from inside our complex in the centre of Howick. It is a white 26" er singlespeed with mavic wheels and avid juicy 5 brakes. The bike was locked inside our bakkie canopy, as hubby works away from home in the week and takes the bike with him when he commutes early on Monday mornings, to ride in the week. We have had builders the last week so I think it is an inside job, our complex in secure, private ( cannot be seen from the street) and surrounded by mounds of razor wire and spikes. It could not have been an easy feat getting it over the wall so some planning was most definatley required. Please hubbers keep an eye out. We appreciate it. Not lekker This is a pic of the frame, before conversion to singlespeed with a different wheelset and shocks.
  7. True, but generally speaking, most people that can afford to race stage races could probably afford the ride the wheel size of their choice. Bikes are like spouses, choose what you like and what you can afford, and don't judge or be jealous of what your mate has got.
  8. The only question left is ask is did you catch him later on the hills? The fighting for postion in the beginning was funny......... few were laughing on those hills later on!
  9. I really like this pic, the contrast and shadows create such atmosphere!
  10. Bikes are like everything else, computers,cellphones..... there is always that new thing round the corner, unless you have lots of money to play the keep-up-with-the-Jones's game, find what you like and just enjoy. Years ago everyone rode a 26 and were blissfully ignorant. What I ride now is a machine compared to my bike when I was a kid with permatubes in the tyres, miserable brakes and a steel frame that weighed a ton, but at the time I thought that bike was amazing. So if its got two wheels, and it keeps you fit, just enjoy
  11. I agree, my grandmother's used to fake asthma attacks and roll on the floor, until it was picked up.
  12. Swissvan broke the hub, because I can't post pictures anymore, sorry
  13. HeHe...You'll see me when I pass for all of 30 seconds. Enjoy the view while it lasts.....you wont see it again for the rest of your ride
  14. As you can see from the patch sewn on the cushion in the topleft corner....this is not the first time!!!
  15. Dear dad..... Before you come home from work today there is something we need to tell you.....
  16. I imagine this works well for the guys, but will backfire miserably for us gals. I'll stay tuned for more advice.
  17. www.tourdekrantz.co.za Lekker climbs and awesome views. Sat 16 August Harburg Kzn
  18. I also used to ride....on the way home sometimes stop at the cafe if I had a 20c to play games. Then make up some story for mum to explain why I was late.
  19. For JPC.....as promised
  20. Have you ever heard of an idiot savant? It means I know lots of complicated stuff, that is quite useless, yet 90% of the time I have no idea where my car keys are!!
  21. Hence your post the other day about hubby's farts? HeHe Drafting in the draft!
  22. I'm not going anywhere......this is a serious thread....for serious riders
  23. This is it! Because if Force equals mass X acceleration (Newton II), then your acceleration is equal to Force divided by mass. Greater mass therefore slower acceleration! I agree, for mtb faster acceleration is key!!
  24. E(kinetic) at bottom is equal to E(potential) at the top. Potential energy gained in a climb is generally equivelent to kinetic energy (speed) at the bottom of the hill. (If you have not braked and friction is negligable) So all the extra speed coming downhill you've worked for by pushing a heavier bike uphill. Please someone correct me if I've got it wrong
