  1. I thought exactly the same thing the other day. I think this would need some private management. It should also be possible to open a restaurant which would definitely help with making some more revenue to justify it all. The parking lot is packed with cyclists on weekends... everyone would pop in for a drink and a bite after a long ride, not to mention the hikers and other day visitors. If anyone here has the time to take lead on an initiative like this, I would gladly offer up some of my time to assist where possible
  2. Does anyone know if they are allowing late entries?
  3. We've been following the program from the first week. So far we've seen major improvements in our fitness and a considerable improvement in pace too. It looks mostly the same week after week. Tuesday: Intervals ~1hr Wednesday: Endurance ~1.5hr (difficult to find the time and boring indoors) Thursday: Intervals ~1hr (same as Tue) Saturday: Long Ride 3-5hr Sunday: Strength ~2hr They follow 3-week blocks where they build up the intensity and then a week of rest with low-intensity active recovery rides. Biggest downside has been that we didn't do an FTP test before and the wattbike in our gym is broken, so power readings are useless. We've had to result to using RPE and heart rate which probably isn't giving us the best results. The biggest benefit has been that it really helped us to stick to a schedule and the fact that it's included for "free" makes it absolutely worth it! I'm even considering to get coaching from them after the event to prepare for future events. If I had to pay for this, I still would, but I would expect more feedback from the coach and constant adjustment/tailoring of the program to match my progress, which currently isn't being done.
  4. Someone told me that the road to the start venue is really bad and I should make arrangements. Great. I was looking at the packages and it really doesn't seem all that worth it. Would any of the mechanics/shops there assist with parts etc if I didn't pay for a package upfront?
  5. This is my first one and I still have so many questions! What's the best way to get to the event and how accessible is it with a normal hot-hatch? Is it worth getting a mechanic package and from which service provider?
  6. Resurrect! We're heading to Ballito this weekend and hoping to go ride. The last few times I've left for an adventure the trails were closed, burned down (Garden Route Trail Park) or not maintained (Magoebaskloof Trails), so this time I'm asking around first. Is everything still kicking at Holla? Still safe to ride if it's only two of us? We're keen to do a long ride 40+km. Recommended routes?
  7. Same here! We seem to be riding the same spots every weekend and training for the same event!
  8. Question on Stans or Joes... Can they be mixed? I got the tubeless conversion free when I bought my bike and they shop I got it from uses either Stans or Joes but they can't tell me which they used on my bike. I had a burp on the weekend and quite a lot of sealant came out, so I want to top it up.
  9. Thanks, @Dexter-morgan hooked me up!
  10. Does anyone have the gpx file for me please?
  11. Not bad! R2.50 cheaper than the existing multi-entry special
  12. Do they have any representatives on here? Also, has anyone been to the restaurant this year? I've been there three times where all the tables are outside but there is no one there. What are their usual operating hours? It sucks not having a place like Holla Trails etc up here in Gauteng. They get it... Epic trails, food, drinks, bike wash and showers. Unless I'm missing something?
  13. 444kms later I got to the start of the Green Route at Cheerio Gardens as shown in the GPS maps I managed to find online. I was definitely in the right place... It's where the Magoebaskloof Tourism website says you can start the trail, where the GPS route started and there were signs all over the place saying mountain bike trails blah blah blah. Long story short, the trails are not maintained and impossible to use! I phoned every place on route to ask if they had mountain bike trails and they all insisted they do, but none of them could tell me if the trails were maintained. It's terribly sad that a place with such amazing scenery and trails were not being maintained and not to mention a huge waste of my time and money! I wouldn't recommend that anyone tries going for a ride here unless you know the trails have been cleaned.
  14. Hand calcs would also do... For dynamic impact loads you could see up to 3G
  15. Any chance anyone has the GPS routes for these trails? Specifically thinking of doing the Green
  16. A quick test run at Modderfontein...
  17. Does anyone know when the restaurant will open again?
  18. My 2cents. Sure my GoPro was not cheap and the worst part is all the mounts cost quite a lot and to truly get the best experience you need a ton of mounts and extras. That being said. I have a gopole, chest mount, suction mount and all the basics little stick-on pads. I enjoy using it, but I never did, until I really invested in the right mount for the job. I say it's worth it if you use it every time an opportunity presents itself, but if you just mount it to your bike it's a waste.
  19. This scared me so much I got bike insurance just now in the last 30 minutes... I went to a mall with my bikes on the roof... girlfriend told me not to worry, they are locked... THANK GOODNESS I still have bikes Sorry to hear about this poor lost one
  20. This is borderline cynical, but wouldn't the chances of falling on a rock or any other protruding object (especially on a mtb trail) be just as fatal? So... don't record living life, you might break something OR record and show off to friends
  21. I didn't mind following their rules, but its not every day you get to ride in a nature reserve with Rhinos etc... I'll get the handlebar mount for these situations, but I really would like to know why the chesty is so dangerous. It might be insensitive, but I searched youtube and can't find any serious accidents with a chesty, so thank goodness for me
  22. That is boring... The POV defeats the purpose for me It's my gopro... If I strap it to handlebars, it should be the guys' following me in the dust
  23. Hi guys, I did a race at Mabalingwe last weekend and the organizers told me I'm not allowed to mount it to my helmet or chest. Same thing when I went to Bloukrans bungee recently... Has anyone seen any in- head/chest footage? If I sign the indemnity and they have all my medical aid details on hand, why am I not allowed to risk wearing my expensive action cam to record my adventures?!
  24. I am intrigued by this seatpost. I have a carbon frame and my shifter lines run into the head tube and down the top tube. They seem to fit precisely into these holes. I was wondering if it would be able to make the necessary adjustments to run the Reverb Stealth line through the frame and into the correct position for the internals. Anyone with experience or suggestions on this?
  25. Thanks for all the replies guys! I'd like to get into some team stage races soon. This won't interest her, but for myself. I'd be the "weaker" partner How do you guys go about team training and even finding a partner for these type of events?
