  1. Right... so, firstly thanks again to all you guys who helped with advice and feedback regarding my dilemma.... I made a choice... had my fitting and picked it up today:-
  2. His name is Anthony you can get hold of him on here, I told him to join yesterday. https://www.bikehub.co.za/forum/user/61409-armourteq/
  3. last pic of fork, couldn't fit in the first post
  4. Um.... as mentioned..... I didn't realize how small I'd them and will sort out a bit later!
  5. I have to share with you guys. A couple weeks ago,via Facebook (friend of a friend of a friend etc etc), I came across someone doing vinyl wrapping ( like they do on cars) on a helmet. After a couple messages back and forth, we met up last week, handed over my goods and this is the result:- Before:- after:- I'm also busy with a SS build and a while ago I bought a Momsen rigid fork off a hubber, nothing wrong with it, a teeny tiny scuff mark or two, but the colour wouldn't really suit the theme I'm going for ... so did this:- Before:- After:- I only did the front white part in the black vinyl because the back of the fork is has a beautiful raw carbon look. I contemplated doing the black chequered bit in green as well, but opted for the simpler look. (post posting my post I've realized I made the pics too small... I'll redo them in a bit)
  6. Thank SiriS congrats to you too! I was also thinking about something else... if you're happy with the CC instead of the Expert, if you're in no rush you never know, you might pick up good buys of Carbon wheels etc along the way. Don't forget to share some pics when your new family addition arrives
  7. right.... so a bit of an update.. I took the Camber out again this morning ( a -4 start so took me a while to get going and actually feel the bike) I took it on exactly the same route I rode the Epic on a couple weeks ago... and "surprise surprise" it was awesome again and I Loved it!again! it wasn't as quick on the climbs as the Epic was but nor was it sluggish.. So awesome on the singletrack and I absolutely smashed the downhills! Specially coming down from the Greek Church at Van Gaalens I've come to this conclusion:- I'm no race snake, AT ALL,... I stop a lot most time when when I ride as I like to take photos.. so it's never a case of point A to B as fast as possible for me. I'll do a couple of events here and there and time pending a one or two of stage events next year ( Berg and Bush Descent and if fortune smiles my way, Sani) otherwise the rest of the time will be spent riding recreationally. I'll also be splitting my riding time between this bike and my SS I also think I'll stick to the choice of Comp Carbon, the Elite is awesomely spec'ed, carbon all ovr the place and dropper post etc... for 40K I think the CC will do the job for me (maybe just the brakes will need some upgrading) So my decision is made... I think .... Thanks for all the help, input and advice everyone
  8. This is just ridiculously beautiful!!!!
  9. Thanks for all the tips guys .this is where I am so far... Frame-STR (Very Green) Fork- Momsen Rigid Rims, I'm keen on something with a bit of colour, but don't want to compromise strength and quality just for a bit of shimmer though... had a look at Magic rims.. Red ones any experience with these? The Velocity that The Nerd mentioned look good too! I was going going to go for a new SLX crank... but now thanks to Nick the seed for RaceFace has been planted brakes without a doubt will be new Deore, can't fault them!
  10. You're spot on dude. I know there are loads of other options out there. coming from a Fuel (EX9) I can imagine how awesome a 29'er must be... and as Capt armpies....... mentioned , PYGA and the awesome VIPA too.... But I really want the Spez... Just don't know which one!
  11. I haven't tried anything else other than Specialized. That's pretty much where I'll stay. You suggesting a try a Stumpy first? Worried I'll like that as much as the others too... more of confusion then
  12. It wasn't just the brain that made me enjoy the bike, the bike as a whole was amazing when I rode it, but how well the brain actually worked blew me away. I'd heard about, read it and always thought "Ya ya, whatever... can't be that great"..... but it is...
  13. Don't waste another second not riding Red... It's awesome! Start Red finish off with Yellow..... and a beer!
  14. "Cheapest Epic" with brain front and back is the Elite. Dude, do you want to help or be smartass? Better groupset/wheels/brakes always help and make a differEnce ..... But, Camber or Epic was what I needed help with ..
  15. call me naive but.....Um...... YES! The better groupset , the better brakes, the carbon crank, the carbon wheels and even the dropper seat post.... won't make a differEnce to me at all! my point here with comparing the Camber CC with the highly more equipped Epic Elite (no carbon rims)&Expert (carbon rims) was the difference the brain system(front and back) made on the Epics' part and the general geometry differences made the two bikes feel equally awesome to ME... the fact "The better groupset , the better brakes, the carbon crank, the carbon wheels and even the dropper seat post" makes a massive differEnce to you is of personal opinion and greatly appreciated.. but doesn't help me out in my dilemma. I'm still comparing Camber Vs Epic
  16. Hey Grant, side note.. how was your ride at Heia? I rode the Red Route on the Camber yesterday, very nice new extension on it with the lookout spot over the dam.
  17. Thanks guys for the feedback so far... Seems like, contrary to online reviews raving about the Camber, the Epic is winning hands down, providing it's an Elite upwards. If that is the route I go, the next question I need to ask myself, do I deserve it? at close on 60K that's 20 more than the Camber CC and about 15 more than the Epic CC ( which is a pointless option now considering it has no front Brain and will feel nothing like what I experienced on the Expert ) I don't to that many races/events, but next year I'll be doing the ,most of the Nissans again, Berg&Bush, Sani (if the MTB gods answer MTB prayers) so that's something I need to consider to. I'm also in the process of upgrading on the SS front and building up a Momsen STR so I need to watch how I'm spending my ZARs. I also won't be getting something for the sake of getting something new, it's either right or it's not... So right now it's Camber CC (40K) Vs Epic Elite (just under 60K)Chicken or Egg???? ( I guess I'm also not comparing apples with apples in this reagard, but that's what it's boiling down to) I can't see the Camber Expert being that different to the CC, so I'm not even considering it.
  18. So.... I’m sure this isn't the first time this has come up But I've reached a point of desperation here... I simply cannot decide. I need feedback on long(er) term experience. I’ve decided to get myself a 29'er after a couple years on my awesome Trek EX9. I'm going the Spez route, it’s just a matter of either Camber or Epic Comp Carbon. Both bikes get rave reviews, besides one or two minor things, eg:- brakes on the Camber. First time I rode an Epic ( Expert) was at the lower part of the DaggaPad route at Van Gaalens, out on a out test ride with my mate(Shaun). He had the bike most of the 25km route we rode, I was only on it for about 3km, but didn’t like it one bit. I was on my EX9 and couldn’t wait to get back on it and off the Epic. He, however loved it. A week later he bought an Epic Elite, same bike just not carbon rims. I Took a Camber out a week later and really, really enjoyed it. I rode the concrete road, DaggaPad etc at Van Gaalens and rode the route much better than I did on my EX9 the week before. My mind was pretty much made till Shaun convinced to at least try the Epic once more again… I did… and ARGH…. Really liked it too! Did the River and Greek Church at Van Gaalens, felt one with the bike as I did the the Camber, 2 weeks prior. As the line in the verse from Live’s Lightening Crashes goes….. “The confusion set in…….” WT ef Now?? I took the Camber out again today.. once again , amazing…. granted no Brain (which by the way is just mind blowingly good) like the Epic. So what do I do? Which do I decide on? which should come first? Chicken or Egg?
  19. I'm sure there're dozen of similar threads in here... but if you've got yhe time and feel like adding your input I'd appreciate it. After 3 years of EXCELLENT service from my converted Scott Aspect SS, I've decided I think I deserve a 29'er SS Specific bike. I've more than likely decided on a Momsen STR and I was going to go with very basic but durable parts to build... basic Handle bar, seat post , stem etc Deore Crank Magic rims Surly cogs and chain rings to name a few But .... then i got thinking ... maybe I should pimp it... but just a bit, without breaking the bank! I'm trying to get away with around mid to high teens thousands (but would like it to hopefully be sub 20) on the build. If you were doing this , what would you do?
  20. Exactly what i wanted to say! They might not be around the corner from you but have a chat to Eben, Stephan or Junior. If, by some teeny tiny chance, they can't sort you out you'll at least be told straight away instead on being kept hanging! proof of their awesome service! http://www.treadmtb.co.za/miracle-mechanics-team-absa/
  21. So.. rode the Red route at Heia Safari. Really enjoyed it! A shorter route, but much more flow than the yellow. I reckon a double loop and half of the yellow noodles will give you a nice 2-3hour ride. a couple pics I took while out there today...
  22. (though very "unflowy"). yip, totally agree ... that's where I'm hoping the Red route will differ. "The biggest gripe I had with the route was the huge knee-deep mud pond about 10km in - I really don't enjoy riding with my bb and hubs submerged in muddy slush on a casual ride, and there was no chicken run around it." I don't think this was intentional. I'm sure this was due to the rains of late, with it being in the trees like that, I doubt much sun got to it, to dry it up.
