  1. keen to know how it was?
  2. Look forward to it.... Have fun tomorrow
  3. You can check out some pics I posted of the new trail on my thread . Pg12. https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/99012-van-gaalens-trail-updates/
  4. If you're up to it, as soon as you cross over the fence just before the DaggaPad descent , there's a new route Erik's made to the right... But be be warned, it's a real tester, but great GREAT fun!!! I'll definitely be there next weekend, might be taking a bunch of guys from the Krugersdorp MTB Facebook group on a SS( but not just SS specific, anyone can ride) Singletrack ride....
  5. You're killing me!! Bummed I can't ride... But hey ... Need to work to pay for bike/s! How're you technical skills? Seen the new route just before the DaggaPad downhill?
  6. If you have have any geared bikes... Start comforting them with soothing words and the occasional saddle stroke.. You won't be riding them much after this weekend. SS'ing will takeover!
  7. Unusually.... I won't be tomorrow . Work dictates! Take care to dress warmly .. Specially if doing the River. Not much sun gets through. But no matter how cold... It's always worth it. Enjoy!
  8. Welcome to the the magical world of of cycling and bicycles Joe. This is what makes thehub such an awesome place, everyone is always willing help out at the drop of a hat.  not much more to add, you guys have pretty covered the basics for Joe.... except don't skimp on the shoes, no need to blow a fortune, but get a decent pair like the ones mentioned here. many happy miles
  9. Love the idea! Just bad timing for me. same day as the Ladies Day ride at Van Gaalens where i'll be dressing up as a pink fairy again to ride (on my SS of course) as support for Ladies who encounter difficulties on the route. however, i'll monitor this post and if the date changes.. i'm there for the beerSS!
  10. As last year's series ended, this one carried on the great form. Perfect route marking., Marshals were top notch..not just effective but friendly too . I had a great day out there. Preferred the half marathon route to last years too, just seemed to flow better. Distance was also about 5km more then what i recorded last year, and I bettered my time on my SingleSpeed so I'm quite chuffed. ( just hope the later start for the half marathon's doesn't carry through, but hey, if it does so be it) looking forward to the next one
  11. Nothing on last year dude. Today was tropical compared to last year. I pretty much wore every bit of winter gear last year, today ...not even arm warmers.
  12. Thanks Tim is this format going to be applied to the entire series?
  13. you doing the 40 or 70?
  14. I thought the start time for the 40 was a misprint? is it really at 9?
  15. Only did the half.. But as last year, it broke me..However I Bettered my time and am determined to take on the full Monster next year! From an organizational point, flawless! For the first time ever though, lost my cool with a fellow "rider" today... But that's a story for another time. Congrats to a friend who did the full marathon , SUB 4h, on a SS!!
  16. Van Gaalens Oom Piet
  17. if this last weekend is anything to go by, it'll be a chilly start but will warm up pretty quick. I had a 630am start at Van Gaalens on Saturday and it was so painful at first, bitterly cold!! but after an hour or so it got a lot better, so considering the start times of the Monster, it'll definitely be a cold start but i'm sure it'll warm up very quick. forecast for Sat is little to no wind, 6 degree low and 23 high.
  18. I tried this latex glove business for the first time on Saturday, did nothing for me Then tried one hand with and one without..and although marginal, the hand with, was colder then the one without the latex glove on. I've used those First Ascent inners and although not a huge difference, they still worked better imo. Re the feet issue, toecaps worked a treat for me,just by helping to keep out the wind as Wayne mentioned. Think I'm going to try these fly fishing gloves
  19. +1 Eben, Lynne, Junior, Stephan and the rest of team are phenomenal! Although I do have a very VERY problem with WRC.....whenever I'm there, I find it really hard to leave!!
  20. Nice! Post Pics when you're done!
  21. Thanks I really like them(and chose them) because they're different... but so different it's not that easy to ride, a short distance is fine... but anything over about 30km starts becoming a challenge I'll definitely be going the bullhorn or flatbar route.. (leaning more towards the flatbar though)
  22. I've made a little change since getting it.... i'm quite chuffed with how it looks.
