  2. As mentioned before, a registry already exists... http://www.nbrza.co.za/ Although it seems a good idea the only problem I can see is that the hubsa represents only a small percentage of actual riders out there - something like this would only work if everyone who rode had access to the internet and the hubsa, and also had the inclination to register and take photo's and all that. But, why don't you try starting it and lets see what happens.
  3. While I think Riprap may have been a tad insensitive there, I would have to agree with him; though apathy is not restricted to just cyclists in general. This subject comes up time and time again, someone gets jacked or hurt (or both) and there's this swell of voices with suggestions and opinions and outrage carrying the thread to a coupe of pages; and then as suddenly as it started, it goes away. If cyclists really cared, they would get together, in person and hammer out a way forward, even if it was to hand a memorandum to the press and the local police commissioner... but I doubt that'll happen, cyclists don't care unless it affects them personally. Sorry about the incident and the injuries to your dad. Maybe everyone that rides at this place should at the very least try to arrange group rides so no one goes at alone. Hope he gets well soon.
  4. looks fantastic gt
  5. i managed to pick up a benotto(?) track bike, I want to move components over to a spare alpina, use that as my fixie, then convert the other alpina to a ss commuter - basically I really just stuck for a straight bar.
  6. they single speed bikes, only run one in one gear so no need for derailers since there's no changing gears
  7. ahh ok, looks really good
  8. is that original fork? I got two alpina frames that I want to do like yours, single speed with the straight bar, not sure how to go about it because of the quill stem. How did you do that?
  9. @GTRacing: what was that first frame, looked similar to an alpina?
  10. what frame is that?
  11. did I just hear this right? Smith reckons they played well but the "middle order let them down"! Smith is so over-rated.
  12. @RodTi - yup, original, just got it chromed with a few other items. The only thing not original is the seat, I got the original but need to just find some spare time and recover it - thinking nguni hide she's awesome on the beachfront, loads of compliments @Hairy - was my intention all along to take pics along the way and record the build, the bike had been sitting int he garage for about 6 months after I found her, then just out of the blue I got a bee in my bonnet and in the space of week got her re-done, totally forgot the build photo's!
  13. that's boxing clever. i'm gonna have a go at that this weekend.
  14. that ghetto tensioner, I need one, how did you do it? looks a bit like the ldr(?) tensioner that's been pulled apart? I've found my magic gear system is now no longer magic for some reason so I need a tensioner.
  15. absolutely beautiful, as soon as you get tired of her, let me know
  16. good for you for apologising!
  17. this is so me! On my ss, with baggies and backpack, I'm totally convinced I can take anyone (i definitly can't though), from the dude on his game special to the lycred-up roadie - I'll even take on the robots and the odd car, not even going to mention the pure joy of cutting through traffic, riding in the middle of the road against traffic and of course running every red light possible... commuting, it's more than just a way of travel, it's a lifestyle! My FCN is 5
  18. i used to live right next door tot he nsa gallery, i used to love riding through durban on a saturday morning, head to the beach for breakfast then backout to glenwood. but honestly cannot think of any trails down there. another enjoyable ride was to essenwood park then on to florida and back again. at least you got a hill up can climb there for hill training, used to ride up clark road to the top, murdered the legs lol
  19. I love tribe, downloaded them off youtube and loaded them onto my phone for those moments I need a pick'me up. as for the blond chick... totally
  20. you're right, those cranks on a ss would just fantastic! I wonder if they offer anything in terms of performance or whether it's just for looks; I'd imagine just for looks myself.
  21. Stuck this into this forum since most of the riders use a fixie or ss. It's a new show on the travel channel documenting bike messengers riding the streets of New York - these guys are amazing, can't wait for it to get to SA! Triple Rush Just as a bit of interest, in New York alone 15000 bikes are stolen annually, with less than 2% being recovered! Ouch!
  22. Hi. Anyone planning on a CRC order anytime soon in the Durban area?
  23. If you reported the crime originally then you've got a case number, so phone the detective who's handling the case, meet with him and hand over in writing everything you can; the details of the guy riding past, any and all details of the bike. Pester the detective at least once a week until action is taken.
  24. pretty sure it's going to take a bit more than just a little sandpaper what's the verneer say? what the hell is happening with that chain stay on the drive side? or is it just the picture?
