  1. there is no such thing as "too-much-pimping"
  2. Guys I think we all pretty much in agreement that CSA screwed up here, but regardless the reasons we still got a weeks worth of racing to get on with - afterwards we can all get stuck into CSA and demand answers - for now lets use @tubehunters template here and help out where we can!
  3. nice idea - sent to 5fm and East Coast Radio; everyone should do thins all day, maybe the country can retain some dignity here and put on an excellent finish to the tour!
  4. although it didn't end that great. at least you made an effort to report the guy, if everyone did that things would definitely change for the better.
  5. anyone on the hub here have any insight as to what's happening in the CSA offices? No on have an aunt or uncle in the office or on the committee at all? I would love to know how they plan to handle this since the website is a pointless waste of ip address and the facebook page has gone pretty quiet!
  6. I think most sponsors are interested in the exposure they'll get as opposed to the event itself. Whether the event ended in Joberg or in a mielie field somewhere, the tv would still air it, both locally and overseas. I think a well organised and happy ending would a be preferable to what has happened, regardless of where it started and finished.
  7. I thought it was a good idea to go by Soweto, and running through Joberg highlights the city, nothing wrong with that. the CSA's screwup was to have rushed this all together, an event of this magnitude and importance should have been created over a period of years, not (as I understand it) months. And CSA in my opinion is a governing body, they should have farmed out the logistical and planning aspects to those who have experience doing this sort of thing instead of doing it themselves. The repercussions of this ripple not only overseas, but locally as well. Announce your intentions to resign at the end of the tour CSA, and do it today, that is the only way forward.
  8. well tomorrow's a rest day, I sincerely hope CSA have learnt something from today and at least try to gain a little self respect by ensuring they cover all their bases for the remainder of the tour... good luck to them, truly hope it works out (resignations still expected though!).
  9. if you're not a cyclist (and don't watch supercycling by default) or don't have access to dstv, then there is no way to have known about the tour. The first ad I saw for the tour was during yesterday's broadcast, the radio is on all day in my workshop and I heard nothing there, as for tv, absolutely nothing been advertised!
  10. the way motorists act didn't just change minutes before the tour started, it's common knowledge that motorists act like idiots the second they get behind the wheel, and yet loads of sporting events still managed to get completed in SA without problem... at the end of the day it would seem that CSA did not do enough to involve the communities the route passed through, they certainly failed in the marketing of the event and that in my opinion goes a long way in explaining todays fiasco!
  11. doesn't seem to have an impact on the amashova, the 94.7, the argus, the cape epic, comrades and a multitude of other events? what call was made by csa and when? don't blame sa's for what is a csa cock-up, they chose the venue, they chose the date, they chose the routes, laying off blame elsewhere is bs!
  12. so far it seems that this debacle might actually lie at the feet of Metro, provided that CSA can of course prove that they made the necessary arrangements with metro, but even if Metro are 100% to blame, CSA must still answer with resignations simply because they should've seen this could have happened and taken steps to have a backup plan as opposed to just calling the stage off. I still reckon CSA's marketing was dismal at the very least, for that alone heads should roll.
  13. South Africa stage cancelled, House remains leader by Samuel Morrison at 6:58 AM EST Categories: Pro Cycling, Race Reports and Results, Tour of South Africa Traffic and lack of police support force stage two annulment The Tour of South Africa organisers cancelled the second stage of its race today due to traffic on the road. "No results today," said the organiser, via Twitter. "No dope controls." The stage was due to travel 163 kilometres around Montecasino, near Johannesburg. Clint Hendriks (Tasol GT), Chris Jennings (Team Burgos 2016) and Johann van Zyl (Toyota CSA) were in an escape when the race first neutralised. After several attempts to re-start and threats by the riders to strike, organisers annulled the stage. Lack of police support is said to have led to the problem of traffic entering the course. Brit Kristian House of team Rapha Condor Sharp remains the race leader. He won the first stage in Montecasino yesterday. "CSA [Cycling South Africa] made the call to cancel the stage due to safety concerns, its unfortunate & disappointing but we want a safe race above all else," wrote South African team Bonitas on Twitter. "The Metro Police that were on the race with us earlier have disappeared." The Tour of South Africa returns after a 10-year absence. This year it runs as a modest eight-day, seven-stage event. Organisers hope to create the structure for a larger event, with division one teams next year. Favourable weather should attack top European teams to the southern hemisphere, as the case with the Tour Down Under and Tour de San Luis in January. This year, the race ranks 2.2 on the International Cycling Union (UCI) calendar. It offers around $70,000 in prize money, mostly coming from sponsor Cell C. The race continues tomorrow with stage three, 177 kilometres near Port Elizabeth, in the country's south. 14. Gives you an idea on just how much effort was put into marketing this event, nothing on news24 or sport24, nothing anywhere!
  15. "Stage two of the Cell C Tour of South Africa has been called off. The race was hit by traffic disruptions when it entered the Johannesburg suburbs with reports that some divers were forcing cyclists off the roads. There will be no result in Sunday’s stage of the tour. The stage suffered three unplanned stops due to traffic control problems at Jan Smuts Avenue and Rivonia Road. For the first time since Saturday, the race saw an all South African lead." --- http://www.ewn.co.za/articleprog.aspx?id=59881
  16. I'm pretty sure the riders and others involved are just as pissed off as you are; bit unfair that - agree with "stuff cas" though.
  17. it took 24 hours for my facebook request to be approved. as for advertising, there has been none, if it wasn't for my interest in cycling and the hub here, I would never have known a thing!
  18. seems like a media conference being called for 15:30 today - wish I was there!
  19. now this was on a Sunday, relatively quite roads - whats going to happen on Wed/Thurs/Fri when they riding through busy city's and roads?
  20. nah, they need to stay the rest of the time in the hot seat, screw them, they shouldn't get off lightly.
  21. i wonder if we'll get another stupid "it was the best of times it was the worst of times speech"? personally I think the csa officials should do the right thing and resign at the end of this tour.
  22. I have to agree with you here, not everyone is interested in cycling and so not everyone going to play the game. Out of curiosity, where was the Rapport Tour route?
