  1. Just my opinion but if you could, live tracking would be a really good idea, I think it really helps to keep people interested and more invested, and of course there's the safety issue as well. Not only that, but it could result in a bit of company here and there when people can track you riding through their neighborhood!
  2. I think it's fantastic what you're doing, would have given anything to join your ride! Are you going to be updating via mobile as you going along (if I remember Nokia donated a C8?) and how will you charge electronic devices? Any chance of live tracking?
  3. I hate this stupid game, 3 weeks of watching what I eat and cycling my butt off and I'm back up to 110kg's... ugh
  4. Camperdown KZN league race
  5. apparently happened in camperdown during a youth cycle race or something to that effect. absolutely terrible thing to happen, condolences to family and friends
  6. Beautiful! http://bikehugger.com//images/blog/mahog1.jpg http://bikehugger.com//images/blog/mahog3.jpg More at Driftwood Cruisers.
  7. I emailed them for more info and as to whether they'll ship to SA, got a reply the same day to say they'll happily ship. Waiting for Monday for pricing.
  8. I'm keen to get a gps at some stage and while doing some research came accross Bryton gps and cycle computers. Anyone heard of them or had any experience with them? Seems to be a New Zealand company, the unit looks good I think. http://www.bryton.co.nz/wp-content/uploads/2011/01/rider-50-main.jpg
  9. i found this initially as well, but now i don't have this problem at all, seems the more you ride the better your cadence is, and more efficient your pedal stroke (ie no more 'bobbing')
  10. did you guys ride this past saturday? what route you planning?
  11. These appeal to me big time but a) not in the the budget and B) don't actually understand anything in the description! http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Images/Models/Full/59125.jpg Chub Single Rear Hub
  12. I'm looking at buying new wheelset, and after looking at the hubs on crc am very confused. I'm keen to get a singlespeed specific rear hub, but what one? And I notice most of the ss hubs come with 10/12/14t cogs! I'm wanting 16/18/20 or thereabouts. Also would prefer not to have to mess around with loose ball bearings when servicing. I would love to get hands on chris king hubs, but they way over my budget, any suggestions? Oh and I'm participating in the hub weight loss challenge so I think 36h is in order
  13. i'm using 32/16 and i'm can manage about 24km/h for short bursts, and about 18/19km consistently. i'm no lightweight and definitely not the fittest mtb'er by any measurement, but took extreme pleasure this morning by hanging onto the wheel of a mtb'er pair with 30 gears each up a small but sustained climb it hurt a lot but so worth it!
  14. I got a diamond back frame from my lbs that I asked to be stripped and re-sprayed, I also asked they take pictures before sending the frame on so I could get new decals which the y didn't do. I remember the bike had "DBR" written on the top tube, but that's all I can really remember. How would I know if the frame was titanium? Are there any markings that you know of that would help identify the frame material?
  15. well i've ordered a set, guess i'll find out myself, empirical equation knowledge or not
  16. there shouldn't be any side ways flex on the gear at all? if anything the chain and chain stays will flex way before the cog itself, and I think your chain would run off the cog if it flexed wouldn't it? When you fit the these gear clamps you run the cog until it finds the spot it wants to be in, then tighten up the clamps, that would surely prevent any bending or breaking I think.
  17. point taken
  18. I wonder how serious a problem is this? I've been riding the same bike through mud and water like everyone else for at least 3 years now, and I'm sure there are people who have ridden their bikes for even longer, is there even a documented case where water trapped in the bb shell has even caused problems? Maybe you're just worrying a little too much?

    Fatties

a steel tube has 'x' amount of strength, an aluminium tube of the same size and thickness doesn't, so in order to increase the strength of the alu tube, you have to increase it's size (whilst keeping wall thickness minimal for weight purposes) or else it'll just collapse like beer can, same goes for carbon. you can still buy steel frames to day that look like those of old. you can read up on it here
  20. Next time you take your bb out, have a look inside. In all my bikes, the holes between the bb shell and the set-stays and chain-stays is tiny, as I understand it the only reason the holes are there is too allow the frame to be flushed with argon gas (or something like that) while being welded, there is absolutely no ways water is going to drain out from the bb through the chain-stays or seat-stays, just drill a hole in the bb that they used to do. Sorry about pic quality
  21. for your troubles you'll get charged with theft and most likely with assault. rather take the guy's photo and take it to the cops.
  22. I've decided to order a pair since I found out they are R250 a pair, just waiting for an invoice
