  1. So the latex tubes have actually been discontinued (according to the web-site)? So whoever selling them should perhaps mention that little fact. jmac... why? I thought you and jb were doing a fine job, kept me entertained for ages
  2. Where did you find them?
  3. Dirt*Girl is online everyday, she's level-headed and knows when a joke is a joke... she has my vote. Haven't read through all 16 pages but maybe start a poll for this, those that want to be admins can pm admin with their name?
  4. Did a bit of reading up on cyclocross and not only it the bike different (onroad bike for dirt) but the racing itself is very unusual in that obstacles are placed on the course specifically to force riders off their bikes in order to run a bit. On top of that the course are normally short laps and you basically race flat-out for about an hour or thereabouts. Some really fun videos to look at here...
  5. I'm on my third HP, one died when it got dropped into a pool, and another was re-distributed by some locals. Never had a problem with them, I reckon they the best. I also dual booted with uBuntu on the 2nd with no problems at all.
  6. What is the riser bar rule?
  7. I'm pretty sure I saw an add for a frame sprayer at Cyclesphere in Durban. Why not phone them and ask, or any bike shop for that matter? I've been spraying for a long time, furniture as well as cars... I bought a Raleigh namib frame purely to spray and see what happens. Will have to be in January though, but that does give me the time to prep the frame.
  8. Have a look in the latest "bicycling" magazine, they've got sort of a semi-review of some bikes with pricing. I know you not into Mongoose but the Otero Elite (full susp) got a nice review for just R6995. The Silverback Dokota (my favorite hard tail) comes in at R7665, and the Schwinn Mesa Elite at R6395. Stick to full sus, if you not comfortable you not going to ride as often... There's also the Trek Fuel full sus for R15500. EigerSA2009-12-21 03:53:51
  9. Wasn't snapping at you Mandibles I used to be in the police and just get a bit frustrated when a station with maybe 2/3 vehicles is magically supposed to be everywhere all at once. Hat off to you though being proactive, that's what we need... and no riding by yourself there anymore, find yourself a nice lad to ride with.
  10. double post... sorry EigerSA2009-12-21 03:20:46
  11. Why is everyone so surprised by this? Crime in a place where the victims have personal belongings in the order of thousands of rands traveling alone in an unsecured area... for criminals this is a valhalla type situation. Some suggestions... get together with the owners/management of the park and get some volunteers to start doing regular patrols (worked fine at Giba). Contact the local police station and meet with their crime prevention office, if they aren't aware of the situation they aren't going to be able to help... and please bare(?) in mind that the theft of a mtb bike may not be considered priority considering the amount of rapes and murders that occur daily, it's not the police's fault, they have limited resources and manpower. Contact the problems areas local neighbourhood watch and chat to them. Basically take responsibilty for yourselves.

Shouldn't do if the surface has been properly prepared. 2k is a car paint and it doesn't flake off.
  13. Really nice pics!
  14. I know a little off-topic here... but that little flash video at the site is funny as hell! What an excellent intro to the web-site!
  15. We live in a capitalist society where goods and services (including mine) are charged at what the market will bear (bare?). If it were any different, I guess we'd be talking Russian or Chinese, we wouldn't be allowed to complain then! At the end of the day, ask about costs and push for a discount, that's all you can do.
  16. Personally I think that there's a perception out there that as soon as you have those magical letters after your name then you can charge what you like and everyone must just suck it up. Perhaps this is a bit juvenile of me, but when I'm doing work for a doctor (or lawyer) I hike my prices right up, in some instances nearly double when the guy is being arrogant. What I find interesting is that docs and lawyers never ever complain about my prices or ask for a discount (unlike everyone else)... seems they are the only one who can afford me!
  17. I work my arse off everyday myself, so do a lot of us. I've worked in really crappy places and have had to put up with people I would've preferred not too deal with. I have machinery that may not cost R6mil, but was expensive, and this year I plan to buy some more machines that will hit at least R1mil. And I'll absorb that cost because it's part of my running expense. What I wont do is pass that cost straight to my customer. I have to do that because of competition in my industry, something I don't believe specialists have to deal with. I'm stressed all the time (which is why I cycle) because that's what running a business entails. What makes your opthalmologist so special? We certainly do not get what we pay for.
  18. Those are fantastic pics. I tend to leave the camera at home a lot because it's a bit awkward to carry around but I think after seeing these I must certainly make the effort. Often I'm battling so much on a ride I forget to look around and take it all in and realise we live in a beautiful country!
  19. I went for my ride a few days ago and got caught in a violent but really short storm (about 15min long). I stopped along the way and took these. All of these are in Waterfall, with the last two overlooking Inanda Dam. The camera was a Canon point and shoot that I carry with me everywhere. Picture 1: This was just before the storm broke, I was still about 20 odd k's from home. Also I struggled to get the point and shoot camera to read properly. Picture 2: This was after the storm and I came out of hiding. Picture 3: The same stretch of road, but after about 10 minutes of fiddling with the camera.
  20. So who cheated the most? And can someone show me how? EigerSA2009-12-04 04:03:51

  22. It's killing me that I can't reply to this comment!
  23. Hmmm... I guess you can believe everything you read int he news, journalism at it's finest Ditto Gasping's question... who the hubbettes?
  24. It's a free market. Professionals in SA can charge what they want. You can then decide whether you want to pay the price or choose another provider. The problem is that people go into treatment not knowing the costs upfront (whether through their own fault or that of the provider). How true is that really? It's seldom that you do get the costs upfront, you generally get a "ballpark" figure. And just how much freedom do you have to choose another provider between the approved specialists on the medical aid list and those available? Personally I think it's a disgrace that they get away with it.... when I rule the world (yes soon) I'm gonna change the rules.
  25. Please please please people, don't just bend over and accept the rodgering, try take some action! If we all just accept then nothing changes. Medical Ombudsman Tel: 0800 119 820 / (012) 328 6680 / (012) 431 0800 EigerSA2009-12-04 01:56:13
