  1. The thread will slow down. We will say what we have to say. After is just the remembering. Went out for a road ride this morning. Cyclists were very friendly and a lot of greeting going on. That sense of community I think. It will take a long time for people to work through this. Imagine what the family is dealing with. That is where my thoughts lie at the moment. We can only hope they get some help from all the wishes sent their way.
  2. That makes sense to me and I will try that. Problem is some hubber might spot you, take a photo, start a thread called " arrogant stupid dum roadies break the rules so no wun respeks us" and post the photo. Then we will have to put up with 17 pages of drivel on a Friday afternoon.
  3. Also just heard. I have nothing to say that describe my feelings and sadness over this. His poor family. Awful
  4. Describe RACISM. Huh? Well it's a word, an English word, begins with r, ends with an m. Do you mean define it? You could do that easily yourself since you are on the Internet. Go to dictionary.com.
  5. Never a GoPro when you really need one. Just kidding. Sort of thing I do constantly. At least you didn't head on a donkey cart like a chap I knew in Botswana. Scared the hell out of the donkey and really annoyed the bloke on the cart. Hope the injuries are minor and you heal quickly
  6. So what are you guys saying exactly? No racists left in South Africa? They all went to Australia? Relax guys. Racism is never pleasant. White people get it as well and we don't like it either. Yelling at each other wont fix it
  7. One day, in many years time, the complete story will be told. By that I mean what he is up to now as well. It will make harrowing reading. I have just finished reading The Death Of Pantani. That did not make for pleasant reading and gave an incredibly dark take on racing in the EPO era. Made Hamilton's Secret Race seem like Harry Potter by comparison. Takes you back to the research into EPO by Conconi, the man that trained Ferarri.
  8. Well I guess that's it. No defense offered. I see he is being sued by a British paper, I think the telegraph, that he sued in the past. They are asking for 1.6 million dollars. Surely he will defend this action
  9. Thank you. You are exactly the type of rider I was wondering about. Your Argus times are what I would consider very respectable. It will be very interesting to see how you go at the Argus. If you have improved your ability to recover and then can train harder that would indeed be a major benefit. Providing that you take advantage of the ability to train extra of course. Power to weight ratio of course goes without saying. Been years since I last did an Argus and I didn't get close to 3 hours, just for the record
  10. I have read all I wrote Topwine and can not see anything I wrote that could give the idea that I think I am a good rider. I know exactly how good I am and it is in fact pretty ordinary. I am trying to get a feel for the type of improvements that a good fun rider would expect to see. Well what I would call a decent fun rider. There is absolutely no need to start being rude. Merely give an answer to the question if you have one.
  11. Yes I am aware people have improved times. But what times? I mean no disrespect but I want to have some idea of what type of riders you are. As an extreme example if you are doing the Argus in over 4 hours and now you can do it on 3:40 then I am not so interested. Someone who is doing the 94 in under 2:40 and has now improved their time on this diet and I am interested. I know that is not the whole story but I think you know what I mean.
  12. I'm perfectly happy to wait. In no way am I knocking the diet. I am just curious. I would love for it to work.
  13. As far as I know quite a few manufacturers are experimenting with disc brakes and wheel designs in anticipation of a rule change from the UCI allowing disc brakes to be used in sanctioned events. Until this anticipated rule change occurs it is very unlikely that we will see much movement in this regard. Cyclocross has been allowed disc braked for I think just one season so far.
  14. I'm curious about performance of you guys on this diet. Would a 100 km race in sub three hours be no problem? How hard are you going? I realize its all relative to ability but I hear a lot about how great everyone feels on the diet. To put it bluntly I don't care how good you feel, or how good I feel while riding or racing. I care about how fast. Personnel experiences please. Not interested in what someone else wrote in a book or anything. How are your race times on this diet? Up or down and what are the times
  15. So does anyone know, has Lance decided to fart back or not. Was the deadline not today?
  16. My wife and I would like to join the folk leaving from Dunkeld at 17:00. We live close to Arts On Main so will just go on home from there. Is the destination still Arts On Main?
  17. It's a fixie. The guy that made it says its not advanced enough for gears or a free wheel. Interesting insight into fixies don't you think?
  18. Nah I'm very happy. Just amused at how quickly people get wound up over trivial stuff and how personally people take stuff. Had a fine day, had a great day yesterday and can't decide if I should go to Modderfontein for a MTB ride tomorrow or Suikerbos for a road ride. Perhaps I'll do both Perhaps I will just hang out here and argue about wheel size.
  19. My birthday actually and I got a lovely gift thanks
  20. Mountain bikers stand around talking **** about wheel sizes when they aren't talking **** about roadies. Meanwhile the roadies are out riding. Get a life guys or do something constructive like riding a bike.
  21. Oh was that you? Merry Xmas
  22. We have that in common Barry
  23. Oh no. Was the "Cyclists are rude" thread not enough?
  24. Not sure it's "like an addiction". Pretty much resigned to the fact that it is an addiction. A very pleasant one though. Did mostly MTB the 2nd half of this year and it felt amazing to be on a road bike again. I think this weekend I will be back on the MTB again I have a plan for the 24 hour next year and have organized some help for food and bike cleaning. Hopefully I will do better than this year. Next goal this the Nova Coli in Italy in May. 200km and 3800m of climbing. Lots of training needed so just as well I am enjoying it
  25. Did a road ride this morning. Greeted lots of people and was greeted back. Chatted to a few guys on MTB and they were also friendly. Gave me the normal story of how much more fun they were about to have than I could have on a road bike that is just MTB defensiveness. Usually, but not always, noobs that are so excited about what they are doing that they cannot imagine anyone else having fun doing anything else. It's understandable.
