Born and raised......will probably die here as well. I'm a lot younger than you though Oom. Was only born in '81. I Also went to Middelburg Laerskool and HTS Middelburg after that. I Know Huis Grundlingh well, nothing much has changed there as well. Ja this town can get lekke cold hey ! Picture of the Garmin was taken Saturday morning at about 07:00, 30 min into the ride.

My workshop is about 1km from 4-SAI. I Drive past it a couple of times every day. Although not much has changed on the base, the condition of it is definitely not what you would remember. I Frequently cycle in the Doornkop area, the shooting range is still there.

Yip. I Can't find a pic of it right now but it was this exact shape. Not a GT, the standard model with 10 inch steel rims and chrome hub caps.

  9. Sometime in April of 1987 we flew from Jan Smuts (Johannesburg) to Louis Botha (Durban) for the school holiday. The flight was delayed because of some problem with the aircraft. Repairs and maintenance would have taken to long so they decided to use another aircraft for the flight. SAL Boeing 747 Helderberg ZS-SAS was mostly used for international flights. At the time it didn't have any flights scheduled but was ready to fly so they decided to use it for that flight. Seven months later on 28 November 1987, Helderberg was coming home from Taiwan. Apparently a fire started somewhere in the cargo area and things went south from there. Helderberg went down in to the Indian ocean somewhere near Mauritius killing 159 people.

Wasn't fun all the way though. You run into a lot of problems and hick ups as you go along. There were also the odd argument and some frustrations. But yeah, good memories galore !

Thanks. I'm not exactly sure of the year model. The Boer we bought it from told us that according to his knowledge and records it was a 1957 model. Our family business witch is now my business is a motor engineering workshop. Pretty much everything accept the panel beating and spray painting was done by the two of us. The engine, transmission, PTO and differential were all completely stripped down and rebuild.

Any 'Farmer's" here on bikehub ? This is a restoration project that my Dad and me did. Crazy amounts of hours went into this project. It took us about a year to complete. Sadly my Dad passed away about three years after we finished this tractor. It was his pride and joy.......and now my pride and joy !
  16. I Have 20 knives that are not being used, taking up space and collecting dust. I Would like to sell them all as a package but will consider individual sales as well. There are 6 Kershaw's, 3 Spyderco's, 3 Puma's and a couple more. Some are new and have never been used and the the ones that were used are in excellent condition. If anyone is interested please do not respond to me on this Topic/Thread. Please contact me by phone or PM.

  19. Lekke toys ! Delica is a nice start with Spyderco, beware......it doesn't stop there ! This is my EDC Monday to Friday. PM2 is my heavy duty worker. It's 5 years old and just keeps on going, definately one of my better investments. Weekends is usually much lighter duty and then I carry some of my more special knifes.
  20. I See she's got a good and solid cleat engagement on that stealth pedal
  21. I Use a Lansky and can sharpen plain edge blades to a much better level than new from the factory. It doesn't work good at all on serrated blades. Because of the arc that the stone moves over the length of the blade, you are hitting the middle part of the serrations straight and getting them quite sharp but the further you move away from the center, you start honing them skew from the middle part and screwing them up. I Saw a couple of videos of people using a Spyderco Sharpmaker and getting very good results. So that's what I bought and using now. It's quite tricky in the beginning with a lot of trial and error but once you get it down the results are very impressive. I Use the taper diamond rod to file or repair a serration if it got nicked or damaged in some way. The knife in the picture is my oldest Spyderco bought back in '95. I Couldn't get it proper sharp in 20 years and it looked like s#!t from all the trying. Looks pretty neat now and cuts like hell !
  22. Beautiful
  23. Yes they are stupidly sharp and cut like crazy ! In the past I battled to properly sharpen them. I Only had two serrated blades and they didn't get used much after they went dull because I couldn't get them lekke sharp again. I Did some research and found the right tool for the job. It took me a while and a whole lot of elbow grease to get the technique mastered. Well worth the effort because I can now sharpen them to look and cut like new.
  24. Local guy who imports knives. His prices is much better than any of the stores in SA. His launching his online store on March 5. www.theknifeguy.co.za
