Cumberland Avenue. You will know when you are there, as there will more than likely be an ambulance treating some poor bloke on the floor.

    Who remembers?

    Scalextric. Loved this.

Not sure whether this is the best idea or not... I set up a Strava club (for those who are on it of course) so we can gauge whose wheels are the ones to sit on... And just wanted to get an idea of what different abilities we are dealing with before race day. https://www.strava.com/clubs/166511

I presume everybody in this group has a similar ability when it comes to racing. Not necessarily the strategy and know how as such, just the fact that we all are capable of riding an average speed of around 32km/h for the duration. Yes?

As far as recovery goes, I think the points worth mentioning are: 1. After the wilds, there is the long descent to the M2 (past ponte). 2. Jan Smuts section 1 (from Parktown boys to Zoo lake) 3. Jan Smuts section 2 (from Hyde Park centre to Conrad drive) 4. Homestead past the golf course (it's also worth mentioning here to BE ALERT on this stretch, the road is not great, and it's an EXTREMELY fast section) 5. Last bit of Grosvesnor road down to Witkoppen 6. Malibongwe just before Kya sands 7. Cedar down to the Jukskei crossing IMO, these are the only places that you will be able to freewheel, and gather your thoughts, because the rest of the time is going to be a balls to the wall effort. I don't want to put anyone off, but a sub 3 is not an "easy" ramble around JHB, and definitely doesn't allow water stops and pee breaks etc.

It's worth noting that only 11 people managed to crack 3 in last years event (in I group that is), so we will have our work cut out. We may even have a group winner in our midst.

We don't need to shout *@%#! off, as we come through, do we? Or do we? (as per the video).

I really hope the start is in better shape than last year. I remember having loads of mud and gunk in my cleats before I got to the start.

I will be parking at the Leaping frog center (was a pleasure last year)... Obviously don't mind riding to the rendezvous point. Wherever that may be.

Near the front of the group. No question.Negotiating the bulk of I group traffic would be time consuming and dangerous...

Well after yesterdays slight disappointing outing, count me in. No where near good enough for the C group IMO... I think a sub 3 is on the cards though (with a group effort)... For everybody involved...

I would say between 2h06 to 2h10 to allow for those last few pigs of hills. From experience there is nothing worse than seeing your 3 hour come and go when you are in sight of the finish line. Rather push that little bit more on the flats and downhills leading up to this point. Not so easy to make up time on a hill with 80km in your weary legs.

Will also confirm for sure whether or not I am definitely in, after this weekends (penultimate) endurance training ride. In all likelihood, I will drop back, as this sounds like more of a "fun" ride than what I would be in for trying to hold the coattails of C group.
  23. Hearn Drive looks truly beautiful this time of year, with the jacarandas flowering
  24. I don't condone what he did, but you have to hand it to him, it took serious ball.
  25. Shame, another year gone. I hope he remains positive through it all.
