  1. Same reason that I ride in big groups that take up the whole lane! Disclaimer: I don't. Speaking of bending the rules; a law that blows my mind (in the Western Cape at least) solid lines can be crossed if you are overtaking a cyclist (and only a cyclist). A piece of road that is deemed too dangerous for an overtake is suddenly fine if a cyclist is present.
  2. Something like? Be seen and it'll likely solve some of the two abreast tendencies.
  3. Would it really? Then why have a speed limit at all? It's only because we've become normalised to the behaviours of breaking the speed limit that it would become dangerous to suddenly strictly enforce it.
  4. In the same way that is is custom to bully more vulnerable road users, it is also custom to neglect certain rules of the road, as if optional. For example, just ask a motorist to respect the speed limit. Many will tell you to go do something vulgar to yourself. It is THEIR prerogative how fast they drive! Just try driving the speed limit in the fast lane, I dare you! It's the same reaction you'd get if you were a group of cyclists. On this topic, my favourite car related question. Why are cars not speed restricted to the speed limit like ebikes? Why does the driver get to decide? It's pretty clear by the elaborate systems we've set up to catch speeders that we aren't fit to make this decision ourselves.
  5. Ah, good old motonormativity at it again. Every road user should have the right to the full lane, if they choose. Sadly this sounds extreme but it really makes all the sense in the world. Just because a vehicle can be bullied to the side of road doesn't mean it should. In fact, the highest priority road users should be the most vulnerable. Also... And if the big motorised vehicle drivers are really offended, maybe they can help lobby for some separated pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure. A common cause we can all bond over.
  6. The Aramex website seems to be down/ struggling for tracking too. Probably an issue their side today.
  7. The back end gets going much earlier than years of old. You might be surprised. The final group leaves before 9 nowadays. Still post lunch finishes for many though. https://www.capetowncycletour.com/lifecycle-week/ctct/2023-cape-town-cycle-tour-start-times/
  8. Unfortunately, the Overberg area isn't known for technically challenging trails. It's marathon country. So you are going to have to travel. Unless he starts building his own. I'm a little out the loop but I believe the closest would be Helderberg and Stellenbosch (Jonkershoek, GSpot - easier climbing for kids). Also maybe try connecting with the Hellsend crew to see if you can get your son in there. They have had open days and other events👇
  9. Welcome to the forum. I'll chat to the team on Monday to see what we can do for you.
  10. Think Steve Peat... It is a different time in cycling financially however, lots of turmoil.
  11. Often does the trick but in this case it's a broken link on our end.
  12. Thank you for pointing this out. We'll fix it tomorrow.
  13. Yes. It's not a complete solution but does force the scammer to create a Bike Hub account to obtain your phone number. I don't want to give away too much info because they do read these threads but we can also track (and defend against) far more of their activity if they have an account.
  14. Hi Rushdee Thanks for reporting this scam. I'd suggest that you remove your phone number from your advert descriptions. This allows people to get your phone number without having a Bike Hub account (and freely on Google).
  15. The CSA homepage needs an update then: I suppose it all still works on your phone's browser 😉 Apps aren't cheap to make and maintain. Hopefully saves some money for better things.
  16. Maybe I'm not as alarmist but if the crank qualifies for replacement it gets replaced or, if it does not, they sell the gem bike as a gem bike just like before. 🤷‍♂️
  17. I saw that they shared Shimano's notice on their social. Have you asked them? Maybe after the long weekend? 🤷‍♂️ Europe went with this approach yesterday. I'd guess it'd be very similar here if you want to start prepping. I did the inspection myself (it's explained well in the video). I'm pretty satisfied that my cranks aren't displaying anything that will warrant a replacement, for now.
  18. If the failure rate remains at 0.6%, as reported, not much stock is needed. Only cranks displaying damage are being replaced in this recall. P.S. I marked myself as safe after my ride this morning, crank still intact.
  19. Well, in the US at least, only cranks that show signs of the defect will be replaced. Mine is one of the mentioned codes. Let's see how it holds out tomorrow morning. 🤣 I don't really want to immediately stop using it (as recommended in the US) until something may or may not happen in South Africa
  20. I don't think it's broken. Searches are now ranked by a number of factors around relevancy to the search term, not by the date that the advert was posted. If all the results that matched were simply displayed in most recent order, then the relevancy would be somewhat randomised. In the case of "GX", it's a very broad search term if not narrowed down by a category or filter. You're going to get every mountain bike with a GX component as well as the actual components section. That said, the new search does still need some fine tuning. You can sort the results by "Most Recent" if you prefer that view:
  21. No science behind this but the second hand market lags the new market. With the boom of ebikes only happening fairly recently (relative to other bike types), the second hand market was pretty sparse as bikes were still new purchases and not yet being sold. Now there are many more bikes at varying ages, so the second market starts getting 'stocked'. Might explain some of the increase.
  22. Morning @Barry These links should be working now.
  23. Thank you everyone for your patience and good humour. We've just pushed a number of fixes that are now live. I hope it sorts out most of the complaints. If you spot anything out of order, please pop us a message here or through our support chat.
  24. Exactly! Just don't try filter it by size today 🫣
