  1. Nice work, Andrew. Sounds really positive with regards to the leg as well.
  2. You can tell a lot more about a person's ability from their properly *** runs than you can from the ones where they fly. You've got the most important ingredient for distance running; GRIT!
  3. Kudos, Khronis. That's a great time, especially for your first go.
  4. Sounds excellent, Hacc. I looked at your route profile and it could have passed for an ECG readout. Fantastic training and I'm sure it's given all of you that did it some good confidence.
  5. Yeah, have a good one, Carpet. The first one is a great adventure.
  6. I'm currently adapting Lindsey Parry's training plans to something halfway between his Bill Rowan and Silver plans. If anybody else wants the Excel file once I've set it up, let me know. I also keep a column that multiplies the distance run that week by about R3.00. That gives you the opportunity to deposit a relative amount of cash into a separate account at the end of each week based on your mileage so that once you've worn through your shoes, socks and shorts (multiple times on the way to Comrades), you've got a cash stash to buy a new pair.
  7. This, especially with running. I've learnt that comparison is the thief of joy.
  8. Haha, speak to Mr Steer. If I recall correctly he had one of the lightest Jan to Jun training loads I've heard of and still completed the Comrades.
  9. Ja, hoping to dip in under 8 this year, about a 7:55 or so. Thanks for the advice. That sub 7 would be amazing, dude. Given how you cracked that silver last year on a tough race I think it's well within your capability this year. Won't be easy but between your running, cycling and paddling I think you've had plenty of experience with tough.
  10. Thanks for the insight, I'll be on a lighter load than that but it does give me a good idea about how to "shape" my training plan in terms of where to peak the training. I suspect I'll probably max out at around 120km for my peak weeks. Although Jess thrives off more mileage so she might go higher. What are your goals for this year's race? Are you eyeing the 7 hour mark?
  11. Busy putting together my training plan for the next 15 weeks. What are your guys and gals thoughts on peak week for Comrades? What's the current consensus on how far out from the race it should take place? Is it directly before the taper or do you hit it earlier in the schedule?
  12. Oh okay, well enjoy the taper week, it's good reward. Looks like you could get some good weather as well.
  13. Did you do your marathon this last weekend or is it coming up still?
  14. Looking at your Strava, you had a strong run for that 2:03 and a great finish after those hills. Sub 2 must be just around the corner, Candz.
  15. Happy birthday and good luck for Deloittes in the morning. Hope everyone doing that race has a great one.
  16. Big ups to Edgar for smashing a 2:55 at Cango Marathon this morning. Inspiring stuff!
  17. Haha, I sneakily signed Jess up for the 50 miler last night. Wasn't sure what her response would be but I sent her a bunch of photos from last year's event and she's thrilled. Are you and your wife planning to hang together throughout the event? I'm going to be seconding for Jess so if you end up needing some nutrition and supplies backup at the checkpoints, just let me know.
  18. 100%. I remember discovering Parkrun and beginning to run 5km. Then the huge sense of achievement when I ran a 10km Nike run (the one through Alexandra). Then you're hooked and it's all downhill from there…
  19. Never apologise for a time supposedly not sounding impressive. We're all running with the cards we were dealt. Besides, it sounds like you're going to break the 60 minute barrier on your first race attempt, which is a great achievement. Good luck with the race and congrats on your dedication.
  20. Ja, I remember how much that bites from last year. That pull up from the Duzi all the way past the varsity with that last sting in the tail at Oribi. But it's a great feeling from there knowing you can stretch the legs all the way home. Was also my PB until Kaapsehoop so I'm looking forward to it again. Pity we don't run past the city hall this time. What was your PB time there?
  21. Good luck to you and Haydn. You targeting your sub 2 at PMB? Are you both Hilton Harriers runners? I'll look out for you guys, and I think we'll be the only Run Zone runners there. I've erred on the extreme side of caution ever since missing that Johnson Crane start. We normally get there well early and have breakfast in the car.
  22. Thanks, man. Reminds me of when I was in my twenties and my dad ran the PMB marathon and saw me stumbling out of Crowded whilst he was driving to the start. Good luck for Cango, you'll definitely nail a sub 3. Looks like you have a few painful downhills there, though?
  23. Anyone else doing Maritzburg on the weekend? Slightly different course to last year but it looks like it still has that fantastic 6km downhill finish. It's a double lapper but it's still the most enjoyable marathon I've run so far.
