  1. Barry had that back strain issue...seems to still be a problem.
  2. We got a last minute substitution for Oxpecker this past weekend, weve done 4 of the 5 and every year its just got bigger and bigger...cant believe how popular this 2 day trail run is! Not so sure I enjoy the numbers tho..queying for food and coffee etc is not my idea of fun, but they have built extra showers so there was always hot water which was incredible considering the 980 odd peeps.
  3. http://www.aonijie.com.cn/en/index This is the full site. I have one, very light and comfy, carries a 2litre bladder, 1 water bottle pouch and a zipped secure phone/money pouch. My husband has the camelback which is much heavier and he was skeptical because of the price but changed his views after we ran at Zingela. Didnt chafe or shift around. I paid R400 at the OMTOM Expo and R30 for one of their soft bottles. Helps that the colours are nice as well
  4. Go look here: www.aonijie.com great value for money and very comfortable to wear.
  5. Trail guys...if anyone is looking for the best weekend ever, Zingela Trail Run is a must on the list. Technical run with no frills and graces, no goody bags, no prize giving but just the best trails in the middle of nowhere. 32km and 21km or 21km or 18km,. The field is about 80 runners and very few youngsters, average age is 40ish...youngsters whine too much cos its not easiest.
  6. I just felt that after running the 21km at Two Oceans that I have outgrown it and would like to see if I can do a full marathon..pretty keen but nervous to do my first marathon at 50! Anyway, good time to grow up
  7. Hope everyone had a good Easter and ate lots of chocolates. Has anyone here run the Cape Town Marathon? Its in September, any reviews? Ive decided its going to be my first marathon.
  8. Exactly...I will never claim to be an ultra runner...but I love the thought of being able to run some of that beautiful route! Im also saying that if there was ever a shortened comrades, I would do it, that s not taking anything away from those peeps that train and run the full one....its simply saying that if there was a shorter one...I would do it.
  9. Guys...i LOVE the idea of a relay, come on, dont be so arrogant . We all know the real Ultra and Iron men are the hero's but this mere mortal would like a chance to experience the beauty of being able to run the Chapmans and Constantia part of it...I would also love to train to run an ultra but just don't have the time and quite honestly, i don't think my knees would cope. For me, this is an opportunity to experience what everyone that runs the ultra talks about, the beauty of being able to run Chapmans and Constantia....its not for me to have the bragging rights of saying I ran the Ultra, I make sure that people know I only do the 21km...and quite honestly, I would rather only run the halves and enjoy the after run party and week holiday in Cape Town, than not be able to walk for a week! I would also be the first to run a 21km/30km Comrades... PS..if anyone wants a relay partner next year...pick me please...but I would like to do the 2nd half and we can swop the following year.
  10. This always annoys me, running clubs want people to join, yet when they do, noone bothers to run quietly with them and get them up to speed. I see it in the club Ive joined, its fine for my husband because he is fast, but im in "no mans land" not as fast at the A team (or could be but them im always in the red and hanging on and made to feel useless) but to fast for the slower team. If I had to advise new runners, join a big club and then there is a better chance of finding a group that get stronger and faster together.
  11. I bought a Bemer blanket on an auction last week...best investment to date. I can recommend a couple of Bemer sessions WeekendW for those shin splints. You must have a Bemer therapist there in horsey area?
  12. Well done to Barry and Jess...!!! Jess came in 2nd at the PMB42 in an amazing time of 3h15.59, Barry came "jogging" past us at the finish at 3h00 looking like he was just going for a warm up. Truly impressive guys!!
  13. Sorry you correct..I looked at online price and its R4550 and I just assumed it was Sportsmans but it turns out to be watches online and ebay. Sportsmans is R6199 (less our 25%).
  14. Mizuno on special on One day only.
  15. I am, but is his price negotiable because thats even more expensive than sportsmans???
  16. Just as well...its a great watch and battery life is amazing.
  17. Balega socks on special on one day only today guys...really comfy socks.
  18. Me, I run in Mizuno. Moved from Asics Nimbus to Brooks Ghost and now Mizuno Wave Rider. Out of the 3, best shoe for me. Want to find a trail pair, currently using Hoka Speed goat on the trails but not that happy with them.
  19. This is exactly how it was described to me...she said not to forget about doing some speed work...but really concentrate on the HR zone over distance. So now what I do, i walk with a friend who is doing rehab and she does 5 min brisk walk and 5 min run and that 5 min run is fast and in the red...so far so good....
  20. I must say that it is hard to keep it in the orange and not red...but when I do make the effort to keep it controlled, it makes a whole heap of difference to the rest of my day and my legs. The trick according to this trainer, is to keep it controlled without doing the run/walk thing...so important is rhythm...she says as the " km base" gets stronger, so the pace will come without pushing heart rate into red all the time. Bear in mind, im almost 50 and only been running 3 years, so with my running, I found I would get to a point and then get injured, that is why ive been told to build a strong running base with LSD runs based on heart rate zones, and 1 speed session of about 30 mins, which is a time trial or sprints within a chilled run. I have a fairly accurate idea of my max, which is not that far off the age one surprisingly.
  21. Thanks guys for the advice about the positioning of the FR235. It worked this morning, little tighter and above the wrist bone. I have started using my HR on the suggestion of a trainer that I was talking to the other night. She said that we have to teach ourselves to run in anarobic and aerobic stages when applicable. The LSD runs should not be in the red...and for me, thats pretty hard because I tend to have a high heart rate...now that I am trying to work it out...I am finding that I am enjoying the runs.
  22. I went from strap heart rate to wrist and im just so relieved not to have the chafing! I dont care if my wrist hr is a little out from the strap...the lack of chaffing scars under my boobs farrrrrr outweigh the difference!
  23. anyone here using a wrist based "hr"? How do you get it to read an accurate HR on a spinning bike? I had my FR235 on, did a spinning session and had it on "Other" activity setting...tells me my hr only maxed at 95 and most of the session was around 60 which is almost my resting hr. Am I putting it on the wrong setting??
  24. Ive been told that the 230 (heart rate strap unfortunately) last a fair bit longer than the 235.
  25. hahahaha in my house its the opposite..my husband hands me my butt whether in takkies or on a bike...very annoying would love to find something that I can actually make him sweat in!
