  1. I try and cycle at least once during the week and on weekends to keep the achilles "long"/ supple..however you want to describe it. Also see the calf raiser excises that Andrew posted one page back..they brilliant.
  2. Nope not a marathon for me...maybe one day..I have aspirations to run 2 Oceans Ultra for my 50 (which is next year, so maybe I better "man up") Still chasing that elusive sub 2 for a 21km. Did 2:03. Strange thing is, I will happily consider running a long trail run and do a 2 day trail run event, but must admit that 42km on tar turns me into a "chicken" .
  3. Now thats clever thinking....exactly what i think i must suggest. Excellent idea, thank you
  4. My husband is trying to convince me to enter the 50miler and run with him..but I have learnt that he and I running together...not a good idea. We have 2 very different aims and objectives...I like to sight see, run and chat..he likes to do a PB in any, all and every possible area...so the thought of running with him, is just not appealing and then running it alone, nah....dont think so...
  5. Im a Vitality runner...and Haydn run for Michaelhouse. Going to try my best for that elusive sub 2..always so close..so lets see..i havent really done the milage id like. I hope we see you..but il definately look out for you on lap2! Il look for the Run Zone shirt. Good luck!
  6. I just bought a pair on Jackes earlier post..moved from Asics Nimbus..have been wanting to run in them for last 2 days but too much mud on our road and I dont want to dirty them (such a chick!)..so im bleak...however, just walking around in them and getting the feel is very promising and Il do PMB21 in them for a good breaking in.
  7. Gee those are cheap for Hoka!! Barry, we doing the PMB, im doing the 21km and Haydn the 42. Very nice finish. Just make sure you get there early because last year the traffic was HECTIC...H E C T I C!! getting to the parking..many were still driving in and the gun at already gone...!! It really was a nightmare.
  8. The best exercise my physio gave me was to stand with hands on my hips on one leg, raise the other leg up, bent at the knee at 90 degrees and hold for 3 mins, then change over. You will feel the tendon that runs from the front of the hip (groin area) will work hard and strengthen. It is connected to ITB. The other was to put one leg on a small low table behind you, a kettlebell in each hand and lower them to the ground by bending the leg that is still on the floor and keeping your back upright. They really work well.
  9. Anti inflam, ice pack morning and night and go back to doing the exercises the physio gave me! I stopped doing them when I started cycling because the riding was helping. So now instead of the problem starting from early on in the run, it kicks in around the last 3km..but I need to get back to managing it.
  10. Would appreciate the feedback, thank you.
  11. How do the Ravennas compare to the Ghost?? Have you ever tried the Ghost? Im caught trying to decide...dont think I want another pair of Nimbus.
  12. Yeah...Haydn does the same and it freaks me out...something called sole ???. Stetchy, think it might have been hahaha.
  13. My husband retires his GT2000 at 2000km.
  14. My Nimbus 17 have done 1168km, but sadly my big toes are poking through. My Asics Trabuco trails shoes are on 940km..and im dreading retiring them because they are just the best. Thinking of moving from Nimbus to the Brooks Ghost..my Nimbus had far too much cushioning when I started on them and my feet would go numb...not sure if that was cos of the cushioning but had no problem in my trail shoes. If I could find the road version of the Trabuco, id be really happy!
  15. I second SeaBee..also started at 47 and ran every second day and on trails. Avoid the tar and just take it easy. 30 mins is the least you can do to lose kgs..and dont eat 30 mins worth of running. Quickest way to get strong on a bike and lose kgs.
  16. I did the Hillcrest half marathon yesterday on Stretch's recommendation. I am so glad I did it. Stunning route and perfect weather conditions (drizzle and cool) but I would imagine that even if not drizzling it would be so nicely shaded with those beautiful avenues of trees. My sub 2 kinda fell apart about 3km to go, Ive battled with hip bursitis for almost a year now and it kicked in! But im so glad I did that run, thank you Stretchy, will definately make sure I do it again, finished in 2:07..so maybe next year. PMB21 coming up in 2 weeks so need to get htis hip sorted!
  17. There is the Umgeni Water marathon in KZN, not sure if that helps you. Sorry forgot to include the link. http://www.collegiansharriers.co.za/umgeni.htm
  18. Hope everyone ate to much and ran to little over Christmas... The new Nimbus are really nice but ive decided to try Brooks..hope im doing the right thing. I bought the Asics Dynaflyte after all the rave reviews but find that they make me slap my feet when I run, also no "bounce" so will either have to sell them or hand them down to my son.
  19. Im keen to try adventure racing..there seems to be none in KZN though so it kinda makes it a little costly.
  20. Seabee..I think im just nervous to take that (very far) step..i have decided I will do my first ultra in my 50th year..that gives me till 2019 to build up to the distance.. now if I was 20 again..it wouldnt take me 2 years to build up hahaha.
  21. Mine was successful till I refreshed and then it shows its gone to the ballot system..still have to sweat it out.
  22. Ok..my OMTOM half is in the ballot process. Holding thumbs or I might have to be forced to do the Ultra.
  23. If I go on what runrepeat rankings are then I think I am going to look at the Asics DynaFlyte and compare them with the New Balance Vazee Rush..I took the 3 I like i.e. Asics, New Balance and Hoka and did the comparison, DynaFlyte was ranked 2 overall at a price of R1599 from Poobies. Poobies are also pretty good at taking back shoes. I returned a trail shoe that had done 5km and they didnt even flinch. I tried Adidas and Brooks on but dont like where the plastic strips are on the top of the shoes. Makes the top fold strangely on my foot.
  24. That would be great. At the moment trail and error in finding the perfect road shoe is making me bankrupt. Im with you on this one...why is it that a road shoe is more difficult to get right than a trail shoe??? Imagine 30 days to test in SA..all the used shoes could get sold at reduced prices to all those less fortunate but excellent runners that are running in hand down 1000km shoes.
