  1. I would love to hear your feedback on this race...a friend of mine said its awesome!
  2. Any PMB runners...Bush and Bundu have old stock Hoka's on special around R1200.
  3. Inov8 sizing is odd tho...so if someone is keen, I would suggest actually trying them on and not buying online.
  4. Dont know if im really qualified to help you here...but here are my feelings on the Hoka Speedgoat....I love them! Plenty cushioning and support but I think if I buy again, id look at the Speed instinct more closely, less cushioning, I have to learn to trust the speedgoats...the cushioning makes me feel a little nervous. I usually run the 18 - 21km trail runs (if I have a choice) and enjoy the 2 day stage runs...eg Oxpecker and Zingela.
  5. Sorry for the late reply: It is tar road running, small section of dirt road, maybe 3km... We stayed on the Zim side, in a hotel called "The Kingdom" which is right over the road from the start. The logistics of getting across from Zambia, and the cost, is not worth it. We will do the same if we go again and then move across to Zambia after the race. Its expensive!! The rand/dollar is hard to swallow! I dont know the exact cost because it was a surprise for my birthday from my husband but he said the 5 days, including flights and the race was around R35 000 and then we had to pay for food. If you look on facebook under Econet Vic Falls Marathon, they have posted the dates for next year and then perhaps check the prices for "The Kingdom". One day only have a travel Tuesday and the price is usually very much reduced. But having said this...it was the best experience and you just book now and pay it off! We had a package deal with Wild Frontiers and they collected us from the airport, got our race packs together, collected us for the sundowner cruise and paid for all the drinks and snacks and then dropped us back at the airport. Best money we spent was $5 for a fun run T-shirt to bring back for the kids any other souvenier was going to cost big $$$. I also don't think its something that would appeal to families with young kids, not much for them to do.
  6. Just run faster than the person behind me
  7. Im just back from an amazing experience...for those that are interested, Vic Falls Marathon is worth every cent! I was going to attempt my first marathon but sadly with my knee injury dropped to the 21km and just went "touring". The vibe is incredible and the people so friendly, the elephants werent as charmed but luckily they were chased away by the rangers...we were just warned to "keep your eyes open for lion". Well organised, great sponsorship. Only negative is the final 2k's... the 21km, 42km, 7,5 fun run and traffic all meet on the main road for about a km then turn into the finish...but hey, its Africa...;-)
  8. Thanks man...flip I hope so. Struggling with a tear in the meniscus and small bakers cyst so hobbling a little..bleh!
  9. HOLY SMOKE...shes mad! my goodness, how does one even train to run distances like that Stretchy!
  10. I was there in Hillcrest at the water table and watched everyone coming past...Jess is my hero!! She was looking so strong and running easily along, very focused look on her face. Well done to everyone, all amazing...it is something I will never attempt.
  11. little off the comrades topic quickly.... but does anyone run in the Hoka Speedgoat?? Im retiring my Asics Trabuco..they done 1200km and little tired and looking at the Hoka. Husbands PF and Achilles problems are 75% over changing from Asics to Hoka.
  12. Id like numbers and names to be able to look out for you guys...we will be at the MOTH hall in Hillcrest, looking for all the peeps we know.
  13. cos they cant sleep the night before???
  14. For what its worth...my husband been battling with Achilles and PF..he refused to accept it was his shoes and struggled for almost a year until we went to a shoe talk that the Durban Runner chap gave..he finally gave in to pressure and bought a pair of Hoka Bondi...and he admitted this weekend after a 35km and 21km trail run weekend that they shoes are all they all made out to be! He is very happy with them and even entertained the idea of buying me a pair..(that was the longest but most profitable nag session ive ever had )!
  15. Nope we stayed at the actual camp. I believe the lodge is stunning. Couldnt believe how cold it got!
  16. Guys....for the trail runners...we did Zingela trail run and MTB,..forget the bikes, its hectic terrain for bikes unless you are a machine! But the run...oh my goodness...spectacular! I can strongly recommend this weekend away. No cell coms, nothing fancy, just amazing people, scenery and food. The most technical run ive done to date, first day was 18,4km and day 2 was 21km. My husband did the 35km and 21km and loved every minute of it and he is not a trail running fan (ive dragged him to these events). We will both be going back next year and I will do the 34km. I can honestly say that if you love trail running this one is worth being on the bucket list. They only take 100 runners and the food is real food not catering services.
  17. "Oops, the leader has got us lost, and now his possie is trying to find the red markers. Eventually we spot on on top of the hill on the other side of the river. We had missed a river crossing. So it is now time for trekking on the most direct route to the marker." I think this is my biggest fear with trail running...getting lost! I will just panic!
  18. I wear a UK 7.5 or 8 depending on the shoe.
  19. Im so looking forward to this weekend..we are off to Weenen to do the Zingela Trail run, a 2 days stage run. Cant wait! Been counting down for months. Has anyone here done it?? I believe it can get a little hot in the valley and I dont usually run with a backpack and rely on a water table. I made the mistake of trying on a pair of Hoka trail shoes this morning...oh my word..sooo comfy! Have to start a serious piggybank fund..one of those that you smash when its full and hope it has enough money in it!
  20. Over 50mls in the last 25 hours. Plenty rain. Its such a good run, the 32km and 42km a little more challenging but the 15km is really good. Good luck on your trail run..they are the best. Id run a trail run any day over a road run. If you are down our way on the 22nd April, do the Insingizi trail run, there is a 9 and 18km option...beautiful run. Plenty single track. Its tied together with the Mid Illovo Mtb race.
  21. We got Umgeni Water Marathon, doing the 15km run in Midmar Dam. Such a nice event. My husband has been battling with Achilles problems and pf for ages and he was finally convinced to buy a pair of Hoka shoes..he says they are an "acquired feel" but so comfortable. If these shoes convert him..then I think they must be incredible..but I will feed back once he has done more milage, he giving them a go at water marathon and will make the decision from there if he runs OMTOM in them.
  22. 07-03-2018 : Shoe Booster activations We will be performing a systems upgrade from the 16th to the 18th March 2018, during this period members will not be able to activate the Shoe Booster benefit. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. This is on the Discovery site.
  23. he's young enough to cope with cope with both of us im sure...
  24. Sagan at the same dinner table as me....heaven...*sighhhh*.
  25. Well done Carpet..thats fantastic, you never gave up!! "you are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem and smarter than you think"
