  1. Yep, sometimes, if it's a decent photo. Have bought from ActionPhoto and Capcha in the past.
  2. First shipments of Wahoo KICKR's starting to arrive here in SA. They ain't cheap, but get rave reviews. Sorely tempted, but my Bushido is still quite new and does the job ok for me. If I had the extra bucks, I'd go for one though. Glad I don't live near Pretoria - Christian from their local agent suggested I go on for a test ride. I know that would end up with my wallet emptying!
  3. Cool, glad you enjoyed it. DId the regular Wednesday road ride with them today - very nice apart from the rain coming back from Franschhoek!
  4. As with Mads, also not my experience. Does happen from time to time I'm sure, especially on days when groups get big, probably true of most clubs out there. They seem to be working to improve that though - recent rides have been divided into smaller groups, with ThinkBike support frequently too. They ride some varied routes - but I doubt yellow lines and robots are going to be an issue on most MTB, unless they're really taking some odd routes
  5. I see I'm not the only mad fool to have entered 2013. According to the YACF list, there are 3 entrants from SA: http://yacf.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=67004.0 Drop me a PM if you read this and are one of them. I realise in such a big country as ours, meeting up and riding might be logistically challenging, but it'd be good to swap a couple of introductory messages. -- Rob
  6. It's very informal and for fun - the say somewhere on the FAQs that if you don't have the full set, you can ride some more than once instead. I got the 10-pack on special, but am missing the latest one.
  7. Just got emailed about their 9-day tour of suffering: http://www.thesufferfest.com/uncategorized/the-tour-of-sufferlandria-9-days-of-suffering/ Enjoy!
  8. Here's my all time You Tube fave vid - both for music and awesome bike skills. Also sadly fitting, since the soundtrack is The Funeral from Band of Horses. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z19zFlPah-o

    LEL 2013

Entries open around 3am SA time tomorrow (Jan 5) for anyone thinking of entering. Will definitely be entering myself, haven't yet decided whether to do the prologue though or stay near the start and enjoy an extra hour of bed before the madness begins! FYI - You can enter a team name to get a start time allocated with fellow SA riders.
  10. I'd dust off my much under-used MTB for that. What about one in every province, mark the start of every year by remembering the fallen.
  11. Added my donation too. Good idea
  12. Deeply sad to hear this awful news. RIP Burry, and thoughts to your family.
  13. Nasty incident, glad you came out ok. Also very wary of riding solo these days, think I may follow the other guys on this thread and look at getting some pepper spray tho for when I have too
  14. You prob already saw this - but 'Dale has a 99er preview planned for 30 Dec: https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/124932-99er-route-training-ride-on-sunday-30-december/
  15. Looks and sounds neat. I didn't read too deeply, but on casual glance it seemed to be lacking ventilation - maybe that's addressed/covered though in some part of the design I didn't get too.
  16. Thanks for the thread - uploaded mine yesterday and will wait to see them add the points on. I only had a couple fo months worth of FITs still on my Garmin, rest were backed up as TCX which it seems can't be uploaded. Not that fussed really though, long as I can upload future ones and get the credit for those, I'm sure I'll hit the threshold quickly anyhow.
  17. Happy with my GP4000s - 1 puncture in 18 months riding, and that was a snake bite because I hadn't checked the pressure before going out and it was too low. I'm 75kg, and always ride min 8bar on these. To be fair, I didn't have any punctures on Gatorskins - but I never liked how heavy they were, so opted for the lighter tyre and accept I may get the odd flat. I also only had 1 puncture on the Maxxis I used before the Gators. Pick any leading tyre, and I suspect you'll find plenty of fan boys and just as many detractors. I reckon punctures are more about bad luck, tyre pressure too low, not seeing/avoiding the glass, and perhaps very occasionally a manufacture defect. I can't say I've seen any facts or reports suggesting Contis are any worse (or better) on that last part. OT - interested in your super-glu fix for a cut, do I just squirt a blob in the cut or is there some more scientific approach? I did pick up a small cut in one set recently - but I know it was my own fault for being careless and failing to avoid a ton of glass.
  18. Ditto - same kit here
  19. Good one. I must say, Omnico also went above and beyond when I needed a wheel fixed in a hurry - nice to hear their service is still good.
  20. Even when the driver is drunk and mows down guys out to enjoy a ride? Seriously?
  21. Terribly sad, happening too often. Prayers and thoughts to the guys injured that they can make a good recovery even from such bad injuries.
  22. Wow - looks like an awesome event. Can't give you any worthwhile advice on traiing, but looks like you will have a blast. Nice one.
  23. Cheers - with young family, my time is always short, But I'll make sure to take a note of the dates and try and get along where I can.
  24. Well .... I've learnt a lot through this thread guys, thanks for that (and I voted on the "what should PPA do with the money poll). You've convinced me that the CSA has a role, and is probably a necessary evil to a well organised sport. I'm less than impressed to see in there accounts though that a huge chunk of the license fees goes to accountants, lawyers, admin and other stuff that won't end up directly back to benefitting cycling. They may have a good vision, but it's going to be slow progress to get there if they squander their funds so badly. End result in my eyes, CSA are perhaps not as bad as I thought but heck they could do a lot better. Sadly, you've also convinced me the PPA are not as good as I thought they were too - they have a bank balance with 3 years worth of subscriptions in it, but now they refuse to pay members CSA licenses, even though in reality that money was paid by us originally. Worse, they haven't dropped the R75 off their membership, and the calendar for next year looks probably the weakest in the 5 years I've been riding here in WC. What I completely fail to understand is why they don't have an integrated model - starting at the grass roots level with the club you belong too, working up through the provincial body, and finally to the national body. If all of those groups worked together and not in their own vacuums, how much better, more accessible to everyone, and safer could our sport be.
  25. Was beginning to wonder if I was the only one who felt that way .... already voted with my pocket for 2013. Will gladly be back to the 99er in future years though if they can both get their acts together
