  1. Any option on the quartz for the MTB'ers ???? <please>
  2. thats the only other one ive seen and is easily available, yes. Opinions?
  3. Just found these for anyone interested, and its local! easirider.co.za
  4. HI I am looking for a balance bike for my son who is 2 this week. Any other options recommendations other than the blue/silver ones from cape cycles? I have heard the wooden ones do not last in the dry highveld areas. Any other choices out there? Islabikes does a cool one but the postage quote is as much as the bike!
  5. She wasn't there to witness it but she eventually did put a stop to all my post war stories and feeble attempts to explain the wholesome experience
  6. Whats to hate about ANY single track, or any ride for that matter!?!?
  7. Despite all this techno mumbo jumbo and marketing hype (and falling for most of it) what with new suspension designs and frame materials and shifting options. I have finally and truly found the best ride ever! Steel hardtail frame (853) Rigid carbon fork, Single speed, and 29 inch wheels!!! Rode it for the first time ever at Rooiberg and freakin loved every minute of it!! Haven't smiled so much for so long in ages!
  8. XTR or ZTR and A2Z or DT hubs.
  9. That single track at rooiberg was just insane, true SA bush track, some soft sand, some loose rocks, some bigger jagged rock gardens tight, twisty, flowing and just pure fun, up and down!! It was not your typical cultivated forest or plantation bull, purely using the terrain that the man upstairs has layed down and making it MTB ridable, AWESOME! The congestion was not bad either making you push your own limits and skill to the max. Cant wait till next year!!!!!!!! Who knows i might even use a shock.......
  10. HI, Has any one done this race - route before? Would just like some indication of severity of climbs to choose a single speed ratio. Any comparison to Sabie or northcliff, whatever, will be helpfull. Normally cruise the spruit, do 4Hr + rides on a 34x16 (26") and can manage a few repeats up northcliff as well with that ratio. Thinking of reducing it though!?!? Any help appreciated!
  11. Industry???????????
  12. June 16 sounds good, Road, MTB, a bit of both or 2 groups depending who pitches!?!?!
  13. Why not just remove the granny and big blade, i assume your middle is already a 32?!? The chain tensioner will keep the chain on, no problem! If you are then sold on the SS thing you can get new cranks, machine the old spider to remove unwanted mounts or install a protector ring.
  14. @GT racing. This is a chart giving you a rough guide to single speed gear ratios. Top row is the amount of teeth on your front chainring, left column is amount of teeth on your rear cog/sprocket. You match them like a distance calculator in map book, where they meet (vert & horiz) is your gear ratio in roll-out inches. Amount of distance your bike travels for one revolution of the crank ( i think) the higher the number the further your bike travels per crank revolution. It comes in handy when you have various chainrings and rear cogs and want to change your SS ratio to bigger or smaller gearing. I also use it to compare ratios with guys on bikes with different wheels ie 26" or 29" so if you and your mate have different wheel sizes and you are heading out on a SS ride you can get the ratios similar if your strengths are similar too of course! Hope this helps!?!?
  15. The crow makes a good point of spending wisely. ALso no one has mentioned the experience or fun factor, but alot about performance and still being able to finish mid pack or whatever. But drop some money on decent wheels for instance and the Experience of the acceleration is awesome, training or racing, change form alu to carbon on a mtb and the "wood" feel is a different experience. It does not have to be about performance but rather just how it rides......... and what you get out of it, should not be about image but society dictates otherwise, like it or not.

For exact comparisons to your tires etc use sheldon browns calculator. This is just less cumbersome. And before any one asks:.................................... i dont know what it weighs!
  17. I guess after sticking it in the door a warranty request is out of the question..............
  18. Pro has also got a nice ergo option, similar to cane creek but easier on the wallet!
  19. So waht does it weigh......... (typical hubber) No but seriously, restore it too original, for me a classic restored beetle has way more class than a baja bug blinged out or not.
  20. Aaahhh the joys of a simple single speed, the only chainsuck you get, are the ones (chains) that eventually wear out after a couple years!!
  21. He is about to crash............................. and his smart Jap airbag just deployed!!!
  22. NOw that wheel will make a cool noise with a card pegged to the fork, and man those wheel nuts, mmmmmmmmmmm
  23. Time for those "dopers suck" socks to come out again! Im tired of these knuckleheads making us look like fools and druggies to non cyclists around the world! They should be banished to playing bowls or chess, mofos!!!!
  24. Race your racing, and train your training. Most of us go too hard on the easy days and to easy on the hard days. Just a thought....
  25. HI Guys, does anyone know who carries a decent range of single speed cogs etc in the Jozi region?? looking for some good quality (WTB or CK) rear sprockets in various sizes. Thanks
