  1. Did the 75km.. was long day out there but really enjoyed it, third time doing it and always look forward to it (ok maybe not the sand lol)
  2. Did the 75km.. was long day out there but really enjoyed it, third time doing it and always look forward to it (ok maybe not the sand lol)
  3. The weather seems to play along tomorrow, lets hope there is not further surprises Bike ready for tomorrow, one of the races with the most water points per km I would say.
  4. They did not publish the start times just when the 75k is starting and from there the other routes. Think they might have some trouble this year around when the 56km connects with the 75km route.... or do they have different routes back to the finish?
  5. About 800m
  6. Always when I see someone refer to the best it makes me think about the theory of the fast-great-cheap. YOU can only choose two of the three ;-)
  7. Yeah might have some melted rubber on your rims.
  8. that what is nice a out this race, a proper ride on your mountain bike without anything too technical in the range of drop offs, berms, switchbacks. The most hectic bit for me on the 70km was that slog up the hill a Spes Bona where I think even thr elites had to get off their bikes, and then close to the end where there were a bit of sand to contend with.
  9. Signed up and ready. One of my favorites
  10. Hi there.. which area is that and what kind of riding are you mostly interested in?
  11. also remember a large number might have "finished" on their own but did not complete the course in 7 hours. ie could have finished at 4pm and still not get an official finish
  12. I see the post race newsletter mentioned that just over 30k of cyclist started on Sunday
  13. Will that be the final post on this thread, after which Argus 2018 can be closed off and we start with CTCT 2019 thread.. Assume the rules are well known about what should be all on the first page... - Predictions about the weather - "have you heard" about service delivery (bonus points if you know someone that knows someone that heard.....) - a view on the road surface, road works, etc. - expectation of a below par goody bags and for good measure the lack of other south peninsula races during the year
  14. So clearly this week has been to long, did I miss the Pure Savage race report?
  15. I would be REALLY curious on how many crossed the first mat on the day, to get an idea of the drop-off rate (of course taking into account those that did the double). As I suspect that a number did not pitch up on the day (are aware of a few of those), those that did not make the cut-offs and the mechanical preventing them from completing. Paired with the fact that racetec ONLY shows those that did it within the 7 hours, so even if you finished, but your time was less than 7 it won't display
  16. When I asked around there are no consistent answers given, some joke about it, but I am also curious what the top reasons are. (given that I accept that everyone has a choice to ride or not and can decide how to spend their weekends as they see fit, no pun intended)
  17. I see the "seeding" from the results came out and that they classified the race with a Beta of 1.35 (for the 60km)
  18. Did anyone chat to the guy that had the carrier bags on his bike? Supposedly he rode from Limpopo to do the ride, and arrived the Friday on his bike.
  19. Must say, I just want to get back on my bike and go ride the route again.
  20. I don't think it was meant maliciously, think it comes from he point that till about 10 this morning the fact of the volunteer's condition was acknowledge after all the reporting having been limited two the two riders.
  21. Spoke to someone in the front batches (@ batch), and mentioned there were a few crashes in their batch too, so think the take away for me, it can happen in any batch, if you feel that the batch is feeling extra nervous and twitchy, maybe drop back to another group or move to the neck / front of the group
  22. Fully agree with you on this, which was one of the reasons I sent a message to CapeTalk about it this morning when they mentioned only the two deaths. For me the marshalls are an integral part of the race, without the riders there may not be a need for them to stand there, but without them the race will not be allowed (or as safe). For as far as reasonably possible they deserve more respect for what they do.
  23. Do they then have to take off their racetec chip? Or don't they verify that someone rode the race without having legally paid for the participation ?
  24. Was also curious about how many riders was stopped at the cut off spots, I mean they must be able to see how many riders crossed the starting mats
  25. Not sure how it went for the earlier batches, but our batch had to stop and unclip there where the road narrowed, but assume it is one of those things we will just have to accept as there is no other way onto the freeway from the start, will just in future try to be closer to the front of my batch
