is it not maybe just a factor of the 80 / 20 rule.. some kind of indicator is sometimes better than none to compare how you performed the day, given there are lots of factors that could have played a role (some within and some outside of you control).
Would assume getting a tandem to cape town might cost a bit more, but we picked up a second hand one for around R8k. And I know some people are very scared of them, but to be honest they very stable and actually lots of fun.
Big thumbs up for your wife, I am sure that medal will always hold a special place for her. With regards to your friend, have they considered doing it on a tandem? There is something special also finishing a race with your wife / son with you on the tandem.
How I have understood it is that you allowed to finish and you will get a finishers medal, but you wont get an official time / certificate if you take longer than the "allowed" time
Having done it on a tandem and looking around, there are a few finishers medals out there that is thanks to the one more than the other rider.But at the moment it gets allowed and we enjoyed it VERY much so I do joke that it do feel a bit like having an extra motor on board, when you hit the hills and can call on a bit of extra power
Feels like another thread coming, "Ebikes in road races" Having seen the Do ebikes belong in the mountains debate just not wanting to die, seems there is a new place for this to be debated. It is probably less of an safety issue to have an ebike in a road race (at the middle / back of the pack) than having an ebike in the middle / back of a mountain bike race.
Thinking of doing this race this year. Any comments / suggestion / views would be welcome. I do see there is a cut-off on the route, which I assume is around 20km or such?
Think it was to rather have the bottle next at the bottom of the ramp than at the top of the ramp If you ask me, what they did this year was the safer option.
Saw some pictures on Twitter where they closed the "gate" on those riders that did not make the cut-off, some looks very miffed, which I would also be. Sorry don't know about the reason for the delay, maybe due to the backup on the onramp
now that makes me happy, if it is true. You cant just skip to the front and expect to be rewarded for it. That makes the opening that PPA allowed by also taking into account your Strava times a bit more challenging
We were one of the tandems out today, but have to say it seems that the tandems were out in force. Saw soooo many. Overall it was a tough race but enjoyed it alot. And the finish tasted just so much sweeter Sorry for all that were in accidents, have to say we also saw people in earlier groups that were already struggling at UCT so had to wonder which race did they finish to get THAT seeding.
