    Crux?!

It could only be way up north where they burn the grass like that..
  5. Anybody know where I can get a 50 mm O/S Stem in SA.?
  6. Cervelo True. I also have found that 2 days after the race then I am a bit buggered. yesterday I did "recovery" ride but it actually just became another training ride becuase I really pushed it for an hour because of I just felt really strong. No way I'm not riding hard enough in the race.. It feels like I'm killing myself on race day's. I am not riding in top groups where I can sit and get help from others. I am only an "N" group rider and here you dont find people riding together and sharing the workload. Hopefully after this new seeding in November I will be able to get up to J or K at least. Until I can ride in proper bunch it is just one big slog for me..
  7. Can some-one explain whats happening with me. I found that the day after a very hard race, I actually produce some really awesome power outputs according to my own standards. My legs are even sore the next day after a hard race. The day after race I normally do a recovery ride. After riding 10-15 minutes I found that the soreness in the legs gave way and then it feels like I can ride all day long... Now what is happening here?. I only ride with 2 water bottles and a packet of jelly babies during a race, so I cannot get this figured out why I feel so much stronger the day after a race. Can anybody give me some sort of explanation?
  8. Bruce have you seen the power file (WKO) for Jens Voight for stage 10 of this years TDF. I downloaded the wko file last night and it some really awesome numbers the guy produced on the stage.
  9. Some might have seen this. This is short summary to what these guys get up to during stage race -------- The Setup How was the experiment conducted? ? Six T-Mobile pros were tracked throughout the 5-d, 6-stage (758 km) Regio Tour-International (UCI 2.3). Winning average speed of 41.1 km/h. ? While subject names were obviously kept confidential, all subjects had competed in at least one Grand Tour. Coupled with a mean age of 27 y, we can assume that they?re likely not neo-pros and relatively established riders. ? 24 h before the race, all riders performed a lactate threshold test in the lab to establish baseline values, including power output at lactate threshold (LT, point at which lactate values begin to rise), and power output at lactate threshold + 1 mMol (this is often used to predict the maximal sustainable power output). ? SRMs were used throughout all 5 road stages and a 13 km uphill TT, then downloaded for analysis and compared to the lab values. The Raw Numbers So what do the pros get up to in the lab? ? LT: 248 W (3.5 W/kg), HR = 137 bpm. This power output may at first appear to be quite low, but this corresponds to the effort when you?re just cruising a tiny bit above endurance pace, and this is an effort that can be sustained for hour after hour, day after day (as we?ll see below) ? LT+1: 326 W (4.6 W/kg), HR = 163 bpm. Effort was defined at 3 different intensities for both power and heart rate: Zone 1: below LT (includes coasting time) Zone 2: between LT and LT+1 Zone 3: above LT+1 What Happens on the Road? So what do the pros get up to in the peloton? ? Road stages averaged 220 W (3.1 W/kg), HR 142 bpm. With 4 of the 5 stages lasting 160-170 km, that?s nearly 4 h daily at that effort, with an average energy expenditure of 2850 Kcal in addition to normal resting requirements of ~2500 kCal for a total of 5350 Kcal daily. When looking at the relative time spent in the various power zones, we find that the road stages were predominantly (58%) done in Zone 1 (below LT), but also that a significant period of time (28%) was spent above LT+1. So while over 2 h may be spent daily in ?cruising? mode, about an hour a day was done at a pretty leg-searing effort! The Race of Truth They definitely don?t call time trials the race of truth for nothing! ? Altitude gain for the 13 km uphill TT was 450 m, and mean completion time was 23 min. ? Power averaged 392 W (5.5 W/kg), HR 169 bpm. Both values are well above the LT+1 value in the lab, so there was definitely no slacking here and a good deal of pain being dealt! ? No hiding or coasting occurred for the time trial, with over 90% of the time spent above LT+1 power! Summary The results of this study fit pretty well with what would have been predicted based on other studies in the literature on cyclists in other disciplines and durations (e.g., cyclocross, mountain bike), levels (e.g., amateurs), and terrain (e.g., mountain stages). It was also excellent in having both current lab test values matched to field data through a variety of terrain, and specifically in having power values rather than relying on indirect measures of workload like heart rate. What really stuck out for me was the split in time spent at different power zones. None of the riders were having an easy ride throughout the tour, with at least an hour daily spent at a very hard effort. It also reminds us that road racing is not just about cruising ability, but also about the ability to handle repeated hard efforts, recover, then go hard again, and that this better be incorporated into training! So there you have it, now you have benchmarks to aim for. Good luck living the dream! Reference 1. Vogt S, Heinrich L, Schumacher YO, Blum A, Roecker K, Dickhuth HH, and Schmid A. 10. I see some cyclists use a fixed gear bike and I understand that it is for strength training. What is this all about and what type of exercise do you do and does it really work. What kind of gear ratio is being used for a fixed gear bike.
  11. JB 31.08.65 Paarl Clean but a coffee addict.. riding from coffee shop to coffee shop..
  12. I need some clarification regarding quadrant analysis. Which power must I use. If I want to analize a racing file for instance. You need to indicate at what power threshold you would like to create a analysis. Is threshold power the same as functional threshold power or is it the average power of the ride you did that you try and analise - or do you use the nominal power of that specific ride. The way I understand it, it should be your functional threshold power. Is that correct.? <?:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /> Which cadence must I use. How would I know what my threshold cadence is that must be used or do you use some or other standard like 88 or 80 or which cadence must I use. The average cadence for that ride or not.? Thanks
  13. I picked up goody bag yesterday in Paarl. lady checked my name, said " I see you have PPA number so here is your sticker and goody bag" So yeah I take it I am riding with my PPA number and a sticker on the helmit.. I did not get any paper number..
  14. Yip, they changed my watch buttons that cracked... awesome service... Both thumbs up... to them Can't admin do something about that threat's description...! It seems only micky mouse that had more an attitute problem with polar. The rest of that threat only contain positive POLAR feedback from hubbers. Surely Polar do not deserve such a negative threat on the site
  15. Rabubi LOL..... ------------------- Nellie thanx, keep me updated please.
  16. Who use regular massage and is it really that good and an advantage. How regular do you get a massage Can anybody suggest a someone who know how to do a propper cycling massage preferably in Paarl, otherwise Stellenbosch / Capetown will also be considered
  17. Now that SANLAM is of the calender, I hear that the Burger Monument to Monument will replace the SANLAM next year as a seeding race for Argus. does anybody have more info on this.
  18. Thanx again. A lot has been cleared up for me. Bikemax, I will contact you.
  19. bruce Thanx for the info
  20. Thanx guys. A lot to read but I really appreciate it. I do only cycle road. The reason I am asking is that I see and hear person X critical power output is XX watts of power. I have found the tables classifying people Watt output/kg into a specific category and I need to up my watt output to be in a higher category if I need to see myself as good or very good. Maybe I have thing way wrong. Maybe I am reading too much in these watt outputs and what people consider to be a good / acceptable power output.
  21. As most of the hubbers are quite experienced I need some help. How do you guys build power? I have received some conflicting info. a) Go to a gim and start doing leg exercises. b) Gim work will not help as you will develop muscles that is not used in cycling-so DONT go to gim (you just waist time), rather get on your bike and build up power on bike only. If you only ride your bikes and build power there, what exercises do you do.
