  1. Its not the same. Doping was (perhaps still is to a lesser extent) part of pro cycling - it was part of the culture and everyone did it. I'm not saying that what they did was right, certainly not, but the consequences of doping when everyone you are competing with is also doping aren't nearly the same as rape and the loss of a life. Any way, I don't think Hamilton expects that now that he has confessed it is 'all ok'. He's chosen to fess up and deal with the consequences. That can never be a bad thing.
  2. I have, for the last four and a half years been lucky enough to live close to work (about a kilometre) and have therefore always walked to work. At the end of the month I'll be moving, though, to a place about 2.5km away from work which is a bit too far too walk but too close to drive. Given that I'll be living towards the top of a 'heartbreak hill', it will be an easy cruise down to work and no need to get fully kitted up or shower at work (we don't, in any event, have a shower at work). But now, to accommodate my usual working clothes (skirts and heels), I figure that this could present an ideal excuse to buy another bike - one with a very low top tube (so I can wear skirts) and flat pedals (spds and heels probably not a good idea). Would also need mud guards, a bell, a basket for my files etc. The problem is the top tube, its hard to find bikes with low ones except Johnny Loco and similar cruiser-style bikes. Anyone here have a Johnny Loco or something similar? What should I look out for?

    Very Suspect!!!

  4. Fairly fit because it is far, although it isn't technical. I would say start slowly (don't get carried away by the vibe and all the excitement at the start) and pace yourself. Rather finish fast than blow towards the end. Keep eating and drinking - its a long day in the saddle. If you don't have tubeless, don't take shortcuts through the fields when the arrows direct you to stay on the jeep track around the edges of the fields.
  5. Yeah, I know. I was just asking in general (not specifically about this thread) because it seemed relevant following on what Chubba said. Any way, I would apologise for hi-jacking your fun thread but I know you won't give a rat's.
  6. Ditto. Can't be an easy job because everyone has different standards.
  7. And if its ok to have a dedicated thread degrading women, is it ok to have a dedicated thread for poking fun at social issues, like religion? When people (like me in the past) complained about the objectification of women on threads we were told not to open the thread. Surely the same can apply to people who are particularly sensitive about issues like this?
  8. I also want someone to pray for me.
  9. Hey, you look familiar... Are you related to the FSM?
  10. I don't think it is a question of being or not being allowed to see them - its more about context. Like a picture of a penis would be appropriate in a medical textbook but not on theHub.
  11. Hey mtbgirl, did you see the Giaus on this thread - https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/103049-huge-sidi-clearance-sale/page__pid__1400188#entry1400188 ? Looks like a good price?
  12. I think it is great as is. I know that fixies are all the rage now and everyone seems to want one (ok, ok, I have to admit I also have been plotting something along fixed lines) but don't convert it just for the sake of having a fixie. And don't make any big decisions before you've found out as much as possible about the brand, its history etc first. But whatever you do - keep us in the loop please.
  13. I have Northwaves and I love them but I don't know if you can still get them in South Africa. Most of my friends have Olympics because they are good value for money. I think you can get them at Sportsmans Warehouse. They are entry level shoes but my friends (mostly beginners) are all very happy with them. http://www.sportsmanswarehouse.co.za/cycling-2/footwear-2/olympic-hurricane-mountain-bike-shoes.html Otherwise go to your local bike shops and see what they have. A mountainbike shoe's sole doesn't need to be as stiff as a road shoe because you will probably end up having to do more walking in them. Bear that in mind when you try them on - especially if you do long rides with steep hills that you have to walk up. Then there's nothing worse than uncomfortable shoes! Good luck and let us know what you find.
  14. You did the exact same race two weekends in a row? Why?

    Group Rides

You mean other than the fact that I don't want to spoil everyone else's ride by having to wait for me? I just want a general indication of what the pace will be like because I'm looking for people to ride with, but at a social-happy-everyone-keeps-up-smiling pace not a mean-macho-I'm-training-for-the-ironman/Epic/race-around-the-world-and-I'll-half-wheel-you-until-your-chest-explodes pace.

    Pace?
  17. The limit was recently increased to R12 000.00 from R7 000.00
  18. Tailwhips and shimano or sram chains? That sounds more like it.
  19. Yes please. Oh, no - wait! How many strings would be attached? That's a first.
  20. I'm definitely not doing what right? I'm definitely not definitely not doing singletrack right but I'm definitely not doing any nookie right because I'm definitely not doing any at all. Guys just cause too many complications.
  21. Definitely singletrack.
  22. Its never safe to ride alone, even during the day. Unfortunately I recently heard of someone being attacked and mugged at G-spot. Rather don't go alone.
  23. Top of Paradyskloof Road. Here's the gate: http://maps.google.co.za/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Paradyskloof,+Stellenbosch,+Western+Cape&aq=0&sll=-28.45,24.7&sspn=31.01941,39.506836&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Paradyskloof,+Stellenbosch,+Brede+River+DC,+Western+Cape&ll=-33.968905,18.865304&spn=0.007207,0.009645&t=h&z=17&layer=c&cbll=-33.968905,18.865304&panoid=Fl7W9SJ2TUcLa0baTWGyww&cbp=12,45.05,,0,8.11 Then you have to explore a little to find the singletrack. There's a couple of different ones and a downhill track (not hectic though - I can do most of it on my hardtail).
  24. So you're just posting arb stuff to get your post count up? In that case, head on over the chit chat section.
  25. I posted that almost a month ago...
