  2. Admin, Thanks for the updated mobile site theme and layout. It's brilliant! Very clean and intuitive  Cheers, Andrew
  3. Thanks Tankman! Good find! Cheers, Andrew
  4. It's being reported as current news, yet it happened at the end of last month? Awful news. My condolences to family and friends.
  5. Mobile site working well (viewing via Opera Mobile on Symbian). The "m." makes all the difference. Thanks for the mobile version - it's a winner! Cheers, Andrew
  6. Noticed that on some of the new Merida's down here (Durbs) too. The prot thickens...

  8. Seriously embarrassing!
  9. When are we getting that "Like" button?
  10. My heartfelt condolences to the family of the bikers that died and my best wishes for a quick recovery for Pieter Jr. Tragic news!
  11. Only knew Mark on The Hub. He will be sorely missed around here. My heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. RIP Mark.
  12. From what I recall from an interview with one of Schleck's technician after the infamous stage of the TDF, he did have a chain catcher installed, so I'll hazard Top=Schleck and Bottom=Contador? An ongoing cycling general knowledge quiz thread would be interesting, come to think of it? Cheers, Andrew
  13. You'll laugh, you'll cry... Feeling decidedly old now, thanks. (Pity I can't find the Alex Jay version)
  14. Does anyone know if it is illegal for a member of the public to mark potholes with paint? The approach edge of the potholes on the route of the Engen Cycle Challenge were marked with orange "dayglo" paint, which was really effective. It got me thinking that it may be a good idea to do the same on the routes the club rides on weekends. We report potholes and they are generally fixed during the same week in the suburbs, but the ones on the M4 seem to hang around for a loooong time. I suspect that the "powers that be" will frown upon people painting on their roads? Cheers, Andrew
  15. I own an Edge 305 and I'm very happy with it. Having said that, if I was in the market for a GPS cycle computer right now, I'd save a bit more and rather buy the Edge 500. It really looks like they've ironed out the issues of the 305. There's someone around these here parts that is selling Garmin kit at reduced prices - I also spotted someone in the For Sale section that had a very well-priced new unit for sale (though I suspect it's sold already at that price). Cheers, Andrew
  16. Sure, but an offer to perform is already one better than you'd normally get in the retail sector in this country. That it was confirmed on a public forum shows intent too. I'd be really surprised if the offer falls through. Cheers, Andrew PS: Just wanted to clarify that I'm not making your situation out to be any less irritating than I am sure it is for you. In your shoes, I'd be seriously unhappy with the amount of PT my wife had to go through only to get an "oops". But I think Gert will do as he says and ultimately you'll be a happy customer.
  17. +1 Great response by the shop. As was said before, we all make mistakes. How it's handled is what makes the difference. Cheers, Andrew
  18. It's all good. Participating on online forums can be a very tricky business. I'm starting to think that I don't have the time or energy to practice getting it right. I should stick with lurking and spend more time on my bicycle Cheers, Andrew
  19. I have no reason to consider what the OP said to be a fabrication. I was merely commenting that the story - as presented - represents poor form. Of course, I could preface every comment I make with a disclaimer that it is based upon the facts that are presented, but that would be silly. I've not called for a boycott of the shop or reporting them to the local newspaper, so why all the anger? The shop may have been let down by their sub-supplier - but then a call first thing in the morning to check that the supplier is still coming and a courtesy call to the client to let them know there's a problem would be expected. However, I don't want to get into a fit of conjecture. I'm interested to hear what the shop has to say once they're online. If apologies are in order, so be it. Cheers, Andrew
  20. Very poor form. Considering the number of cycling retail stores that closed down in the recent past, to keep your doors open in this economic climate, you have to do something exceptional. Not to mention getting the basics right! I phoned around for a QR skewer for my front wheel on Friday. Eventually found one that was not made from Unobtanium at Cyclesphere in Morningside. Rode there after my club ride on Saturday morning only to find that the skewer I'd been quoted was out of stock. They then looked all over the workshop and found an American Classic QR which they sold me at a fraction of the price quoted over the phone. Despite the initial "ah man!" feeling I had when told about the out of stock situation, they met their part of the deal - and then some. Cheers, Andrew
  21. Great! The map is displayed in the Daily Activity section in the Route pane. You will probably only see your route in the default display (I can't remember anymore - it's so long since I installed it). On the right-hand end of the Route title bar (the blue bar above the route display), there's an arrow pointing down (white in a blue circle). Click on it and select Street. The data is downloaded automatically from Google Maps. You can also select Satellite to see the Google Maps Satellite view. Of course, you have to be online for the maps to load - once they've loaded they're available offline. The features in this view are described in more detail here. If you want other maps to display, you can load plugins to do that (the Apply Route plugin has other alternatives IIRC). I've found that the standard maps are good enough for my needs, though. Cheers, Andrew
  22. Hi Eddy, It's not the advice you're looking for, but I'd advise that you drop Garmin Training Centre and use Zone Five SportTracks instead. I really did not like the interface on GTC at all. It is a really clunky piece of software IMO. SportTracks has some quirks, but once you get used the interface, it is really powerful. Plug-ins are also available for SportTracks, so you can add functionality to suit your needs. I'm really happy with the software and I'm glad I switched from GTC. I see that SportTracks is now commercial software, so I'd recommend you get the last free version (v2.1.3478) to try out the full functionality before making a decision on whether you want to pay $45 for it. Direct link (seriously, download it now before it's gone! It's great - see this thread). Cheers, Andrew

    Elevation

Garmin Connect has an Elevation Corrections option for each training session that you upload. I ride a loop on Manning Road and the elevation at the same points gradually increase (generally) during the training session: Enabling Elevation Corrections fixes the elevation data: Might be handy information for the Garmin owners out there. Cheers, Andrew
